My current Dark/Dark/Soul

Made some revisions as I have played this through a lot of content in the last couple months.  Here is the current build.  This is a fully ranged Blsater that just goes into Point Blank for Nuke, sometimes Soul Drain, and End Recovery.

This Hero build was built using Mids Reborn 3.0.5.7

i like that you use Soul Storm.  The two holds are so powerful during late game trials.  i use them on Victoria robots that like to pacify you, on paragon protectors and on mother mayhem during minds of mayhem.  not to mention backup during hami raid and LGTF.  My build has a lot of Accuracy so I actually threw the Purple Grav Anchor Hold Proc in Penumbral Grasp for a high priced ghetto 3rd hold.

You guys building controllers but with lower dmg?

roflmao.  Dark/Dark Blaster is one of the most survivable Blasters out there.  due to the constant to hit debuffs it brings a lot of damage mitigation to the team.  While still allowing very respectable (if not the hallowed fire fire combo) levels od damage.  The Single Target chain is very solid.  Standing off to help burn down an AV is not embarrassing on a Dark Dark.  Personally I use 4 cones for the bulk of my AoE work.  I can hose a group for as long as they stand there.  Being immobilized, with to hit debuffs, while being ate by waves of Dark energy.  The tier 9 Blackstar...hmmmm.... Less damage than a Controller?  Please.  Post that build!

Slightly different of how I'd build it since I like diving in melee but I'd use this as a ranged blaster. S/L/Nrg softcap I've found they're enough for most my chars, especially on high lvl content and also allow me not having to kite any char that comes to me in melee. Midnight Grasp is just a tool to immob any unwanted company:

If it HAS to go for Soul Mastery, then I guess no other choice but going for ranged softcap but lots of sacrifices are made in Snarky's build, such as global rchg and dmg. Claire's one is better but still, lower dmg than mine. All in all, not saying Dark/Dark Blaster is bad or not survivable, not in the slightest, just saying your builds lack lots of things for the sake of ranged def

Mine evolved from three things.  1) I have always wanted fully ranged Blasters 2) I needed a Ranged character (in my mind) for weekly Really Hard Way Magisterium Trial 3) The Dark Vampire theme.

Where you see sacrifice I see beauty.  This character packs a hard punch helping a League burn down AVs.  Likewise clearing trash mobs.  The leadership toggles and crapton of to hit debuff DO make a difference, even if it is not as obvious as Fire Blasting.  Played smartly the thing is nearly as survivable as my Tanky Brutes.  Many times going in for the Alpha Strike, thanks to Stealth and Blackstar's debilitating secondary effect.  Then doing cleanup with either AoE cones or ST ranged.  All while nearly untouchable.

I run this solo.  I run this in slow levelling teams doing kill alls from 1-50.  i run this in Incarnate Trials.  i run this in +4/x8 ITF.  I wont run this in 801/805 AE madness.  But any "standard" stuff I gladly grab a version of my main and dive in.

Yep, Dark powers are good and dark/dark is a good combo that allows doing lots of things even with sub-par builds

I have played around a bit with dark/dark and talked to snarky and i think it has potential to do a huge amount of DOT in a wide area.

But if you stick to the primary or second you end up cornered into doing single target damage which is fine but not that great for TF/Trials etc.

It's all about the DOT's.

At nowadays team killing speed, DOT's are of little consequence if you are in a half decent team

Dark only has one ST DoT, and the Tier 9 is all up front.  Not even sure where this hate for Dark is coming from.  Again, it is not a fire blaster.  But, it is not the lowest Blaster.  and it is....a Blaster.  you don't like it.  okay.  go away.

I don't hate Dark, not in the slightest, I have shitload of chars with Dark powersets, I just don't like your build or hers, I find both subpar. She's the one who said DOT's are the key... and there's only one. You guys think because you put some dmg in TT and choose the narrowest cone in game you will do lots of AOE dmg with yoru DOT's, and you won't, neither with the rest of your builds. It's perfectly fine making a thread saying "this is my build and I love it", just accept other ppl don't and it's got nothing to do with Dark powers, it's because of your build.

None of the cones do DoT.  Glad you run a lot of dark.

Tenebrous Tentacles, Night Fall and Soul Tentacles do DOT. You took all three and slotted them for dmg in the hopes that they'd deal a big amount of AoE dmg which they might when soloing but as I said, at the kill speed of any half decent team, dots are of little to no consequence except maybe on rain like powers. Also, both Night Fall and Soul Tentacles are absurdly narrow (20º and 25º) and Night Fall's cast time is long enough to make the power pretty much useless. Really cool animation, but pretty much useless.

you are right.  i only read the top description.

not why i took/slotted the things.

i took 4 cones so that 1) i have a non stop flow of cone damage when wanting AoE.  2) i can aim cones a ton easier when i have them non stop because the target flow is obvious from the last cone

i fully realize the cones are not competing with fire blaster AoE.

i hit fine with narrow cones due to my above strategy.

for the love of god, build different than me.  okay.  but stop telling me why i build the way i do and why i play the way i do.  night fall.  fills the hole in the cone (non stop) attack chain and lets me stay lined up.  does damage.  all i need.  se, totally different than how you play or what you think i want

Oh, you're going to hate my D/D/S Blapper then.

She's built on the concept of -ToHit in all areas of life. Nobody that I've teamed with has ever complained about lack of damage from her, nor have I ever had a problem soloing at higher levels. I found Hasten to be pointless since I have so many different attacks, somebody was always lined up to take a hit.

And also: cones, Cones, CONES!

My take has also always been: If you're having fun, you're doing it right.

My last take on this is that your build is only sub-par if it's not doing what you want it to do. Have fun out there!

Having fun is the most important thing. People not complaining means they are polite, I think your build is awful but if you like it, that's what matters. I wouldn't complain either if you were on same team as me, would prolly quit the team but wouldn't complain.  In any case, all I am saying is that I prefer building blasters to deal dmg, for CC, I'd roll a controller or a Dominator which do the job much better than a blaster. Just one question though, all that "cones" thing but you leave two of them unslotted, I am honestly curious as to why you do that  :(

What cones  does this have that i do not have?

I wasn't replying to you, was replying to PluckySideckick. This build is also terrible though, like theirs (and yours for that matter), but they came with all that shit about cones cones cones and has two of them unslotted so I thought if it's all about cones, let's go big but again, wasn't replying to you, what I had to say about your build, I already said it :(

If you love cones so much (nothing wrong with that tbh) why don't you go full monty?  😞

Hmmm... That is an interesting build.

It's true, I don't slot the Patron cones because I'm using those slots elsewhere for -ToHit and +Def.

I like building differently and by different, I mean bizarre.

I find there there are two major goals for builds: Survivability and Damage. There is always some balance. If you slot only for damage as a blaster you'll die more often, of course there is the old adage that "what is dead cannot kill you." I appreciate that. I also solo a lot so I'm not worried about people thinking I'm not killing things fast enough; though, nobody has ever openly complained.

Further into the point of MY build: It's designed to hit people with the first two cones which, on average, drops their accuracy by ~14%. Getting hit by the other two cones drops them again by at least another 10% (Mid's is a little confused by Nightfall), granting me a rotating ~24% Def boost over my lowest positional Def of 28% (a blended total of ~52% min). This is non-inclusive of all the other things I'm doing: Holding bosses, Minion munching, Combat TPing to get into perfect position, and blapping anything I think needs to die first. It's a lot of fun and dangerous at times, but that's why I enjoy it.

It's not everybody's cup of tea but that's fine. I'm here because I like @Snarky's commitment to the D/D/S movement and find him to be a pleasant fellow.

If you ever see a Blaster named Netherkitten on Excelsior, feel free to wave and please... Have fun out there!
