Fortuna Solo build

Hobbes

Recommended Posts

This is for Soloing Incarnate story arcs and missions at medium to high difficulty.

Aura of Confusion is a Panic Button.  Rune of Protection gets fired off when Mindlink is under 60 seconds of recharge.  Mindlink / Hasten are about 10 seconds away from perma, if the Forced Feedback proc fires Mindlink shouldn't have any downtime.

Mostly looking for feedback on the Single Target chain, but any input is welcome.   Edit:  Updated with the advice below, same build as is posted down thread.

This will likely be the only character I ever use the Dual Builds on as I'll also likely make a version for teaming.  The second build will likely drop Sorcery and Fighting for Leadership and more CC.

Thanks!

Looks like a fun build - great defenses covering incarnate content. I've never made a melee only attack chain on my Fortunata so would have to take it for a run to get my mind out of using Dominate/having ranged backup options (currently mostly playing my Fort as a Hybrid).

Really just wanted to point out you can use boosters on the recharge enhancements in Hasten, as well as, in Mind Link to lower their downtime. If you really wanted to go all out on slotting the defensive skills and lower Mind Link recharge to a state of perma (although with the FF proc and Ageless I imagine it would be most of the time anyway) you can move 1 slot from combat training defensive (since melee is by far your highest defense) and put into Mind Link to add another X/Recharge enhancement. Or really use that slot anywhere else at the lose of only 1.5% fire/cold resists. I most commonly suggest running the +Absorb proc on Forts/Widows, it can really see you through low HP moments - taking the slot from CT defensive to Health.

If you don't mind also losing the 1.5% smash/lethal resist from the CT defensive slotting I'd move the defense/end slot to Psychic Wail for a damage proc. IMO you'd get more mileage of the slot there.

I'm expecting very active forum posters to arrive anytime to further assist you ^.^

Otherwise if I find time to really dive in and refresh myself on more options I'll report back.

Solid advice, CT is now just the base slot with Luck of the Gamble Def/Global Rech, Melee Def still over the Incarnate cap with Mindlink.  "Only" 52% without Mindlink.  Added + Absorb to Health, Added Obliterate Energy Proc to Psychic Wail, and added a Touch of Death Negative Energy Damage proc in Swipe.  Will absolutely boost the Recharge in Hasten to 55.

Thanks!

Maybe it is just the colors, but I didn't see either of the ATO globals. The %Toxic one is a source of extra damage on all (?) attacks, and the %Terrorize one provides an extra layer of mitigation (I use it in AoE attacks).

I see what you are trying for with Mind Link, but with 3 slots I always recommend:

  • Adjusted Targetting: Recharge
  • Shield Wall Def/Recharge (boosted)
  • LotG Def/Global Recharge

and then I drop the Shield Wall Global +Res in it as well. Enhancement Diversification hits the recharge time really hard and IMHO more slots are better used elsewhere. I have 6 pieces of Reactive Defenses in Mask Presence; I like set bonuses and having the Endurance reduction enhancements in the toggle power. The power isn't all that hot on defense, but I didn't use the Fighting pool... you could try this in Weave.

Here is a piece of rando advice to help with Endurance: if you like running with Sprint on constantly: you can slot the Stealth piece in one Sprint and an Endurance reduction IO (or HO!) in a Prestige Sprint. YMMV, but I find that in much of game play I want the speed and don't care much about Stealth from an enhancement, so I opt for the different toggles.

Thanks!  I use Ninja Run when I want to see my costume  ; )    But the EndRdx in a Prestige Sprint is a great idea for any character if you want to keep a Stealth toggle on tap.  Totally doing that on every character going forward.

Yep, I tinkered a bit more and added the ATO globals.  I've got 5 LotG Global recharges already, so I don't need another in Mind Link, but tweaked the slotting a bit.  Mind Link is close enough to perma with Force Feedback proc or Ageless that the main delay is going to be waiting for me to click it.

The Toxic proc is in strike.

A few suggestions:

Spin is an end hog. You should swap one of the Avalanche piece for the damage/endurance.

You should consider slotting Dominion of Arachnos ATOs in Strike and move the Toxic proc into Follow up in place of Kinetic Combat. You'll lose a tiny bit of s/l resist, but gain 5% more recharge and 7+ accuracy.

If you're having endurance issues, it's going to be because of the claw attacks. Just keep that in mind.

I used this for DA solo. I went through the whole arc. I can't recall where I flipped to +4/x8, but I was doing it by the end. I know I wasn't for the Cim contact as those missions were notably difficult. The daily missions are essentially a cake walk. I've worked up to +3/x8 on non-DA maps. I currently have three T3s and three T4s. Currently in contention for best build across any map regardless of diff setting. In terms of teams, I often just run ahead of everybody and handle the alpha strike myself.

That's my build!

I'm actually running a modified version of it using the Presence power pool nowadays, but the core of it is pretty much the same. I swapped out one of the ranged attacks for Spin and something else I can't remember now. I also dropped the Assault power... I decided it wasn't worth the endurance cost. Nice to see people are still enjoying it!

The Rogue extra power is an AoE confuse, useful for stacking on top of the existing AoE confuse.

Yeah, I have been tempted to put in Spin. I feel kind of offended as a Claws player for not having it in, but I wanted to try out the build as is. I've never done a VEAT so I wanted something to copy and tweak if need be. I figured once I got the one build done I could work on a second.

Top 10 Most Fun 50s.

1. Without Mercy: Claws/ea Scrapper. 2. Outsmart: Fort 3. Sneakers: Stj/ea Stalker. 4. Waterpark: Water/temp Blaster. 5. Project Next: Ice/stone Brute. 6. Mighty Matt: Rad/bio Brute. 7. Without Pause: Claws/wp Brute. 8. Emma Strange: Ill/dark. 9. Nothing But Flowers: Plant/storm Controller. 10. Obsidian Smoke: Fire/dark Corr.

I tweak constantly. I've been toying with uploading my current version, but honestly putting it in Mids is more of a chore than I have the time for at the moment.

Added in Spin. Faffed about with Power Pools. Got rid of Psi Scream (the cone). I used Total Domination so rarely that it went. The only groups where AoE confuse is ineffective are the Nems and the Shadow Shard goobly booblies, but unless you're almost exclusively running those for task forces, I don't see the point it dropping any confuse powers. I have Combat Jumping, but never really use it - I might swap it out for TT:Vengeance again as it's a solid panic button (you don't need it until you need it). I miss Teleport Target (recall friend? That one) because it's useful for exemplaring but couldn't make space for it.

I've still got more Single Target attacks then I strictly need, but it works well enough for most purposes and I like having options. Dominate's defence bypass is still excellent. I kept TK blast because I like knockback.

I've kept Psychic Scream... but it's because I like having a %proc cone (2x Centriole Damage/Range, %Terrorize ATO, 3x %damage)... although I agree that it could be turned into a more useful close-combat attack.

I dropped Total Domination very early in my tweaking and never looked back. On paper, it seems like an AoE Hold (with all the %damage potential, or many set bonus potentials) looks like a good choice, but I found that I simply wasn't using it and the power pick (and slots) could be used in a more productive manner.

My favorite Fortunata has kept BOTH confuse powers. I think there is a theoretical bias against the single-target Confuse, but with the Coercive Persuasion set slotted in it you get the following:

  • Rapid firing, long-duration Confuse for the times when you really want it (including when chained with the PBAoE Aura of Confusion)
  • Occasional %Contagious Confusion, which is much more valuable on the Single-Target than in the PBAoE.

I am well aware of the camp that advocates for the %Contageous Confusion in the PBAoE Aura of Confusion for the chance of getting Magnitude confuse on Bosses, but frankly I'd rather just risk two 95% RNG chances involved with two Confuse attacks (with longer duration) or a combination of Aura of Confusion and Confuse than rely on the PBAoE hitting the "bosses" and the 90% ceiling of the %proc also hitting them. I also am a firm believer in having as much %damage in the PBAoE so that the Fortunata gets credit for "damage" if/when the mobs in the spawn defeat each other. My Fortunata is one of my more effective "farmers" for PVP and Superior recipe drops because of it.

I must admit, I never chose TT: Vengeance. My build has (in my mind, keep in mind I enjoy the Presence pool! YMMV) one oddball power choice: Weaken Resolve. Even after the semi-nerf to it, I've kept it simply to have a dedicated mechanism to lower a target's Resistances and Defenses, as opposed to just boosting my teammates combat prowess. I also like the animation!

I go back and forth on psi scream. In the end, I don't think I miss it. It's a good enough proc-bearer, but psinado does much the same thing plus some control. It also (from memory) shares a sound effect with too many other powers and I just burnt out on it for aesthetic reasons.

I have both confuses. The ST one has such a short recharge and has an absurdly long duration that it's basically a one-slot wonder. I think I also use the Contageous Confusion one in it... I can't remember, though to be honest. I want to say I do.

The Presence pool is better than it has any right to be. I'm a bit peeved  about having to take the single target fear to unlock the higher tier powres, but the AoE fear, the AoE taunt and Un...stoppable? Unrelenting? is a useful trick to have up your sleeve. I'm not completely sold in it, but the AoE fear makes the whole pool worthwhile.

For reference and for those who don't know, Fear is somewhere between a sleep and a hold. Enemies cannot attack until they are attacked first and have a (fairly low) chance to run away. It's a bit slept on as a status effect as several enemies that are protected against holds and sleep are totally unresistant to fear effects.

I am also in the two confuse powers camp. Having a single target confuse is very helpful soloing against tough mobs. Keeping say a Dark Ring Mistress on your side for the entire fight is very nice.

Like Tidge I put Contageous Confusion in Confuse and Malaise in Aura.

Very strong incoming personal opinion. You have been warned.

Any version Psychic Scream is garbage with the Sentinel version the best of the worst. That version is a 70 degree cone.

My personal dislike really started with it being the T9 for Night Widows.

It's an expensive, meh procing, meh damage, narrow coned piece of junk with a ridiculous cast time. Dart Burst is a better AOE.

I would never recommend it to anyone. If you need more AOE use the Patron pool ones. Soul: Dark Obliteration and Mu: Static Discharge proc well at least.
