An early character at the start of Homecoming was a WM/WP brute. Was loads of fun but I ended up stripping his IOs/sets for another character when I needed liquid funds. Time has passed and I miss the guy. So and as a thought experiment, what is the highest amount of HP this combo can achieve and still have a functional build? 

 

Here is my first draft. I don't like some of the slotting particularly. Further, the FF procs limit the AOEs somewhat and leave some juicy HP left out. However, my napkin math suggests that the procs will help tighten the attack chain once the everything gets going. What really stinks is needing two ranged attacks for the 3-piece in Apocalypse. Anyhow, defenses were essentially ignored, S/L/ resistance made it to 83.6 (not great but respectable), and HP? 2938. Can be bumped up to 3163 with the Survival Amplifier. 

 

Anyway to squeeze out more HP without gimping it worse?

Willpower ( one of my favorites on live) suffers from not “fitting well” into the CoH paradigm.  Def>Res>Heal.  Invul fits well into this.  Dark sidesteps it with stealth and mezze to make up for low and/or nonexistent defense and no DDR, then great resistance and the best heal in the game. 
 

Willpower has weak defense debuff resistance so even if you pump defense (which you should, at least S/L) it can get floored.  
 

I do love the concept of a super giant health pool Brute Willpower.   But….it will just not see the survival factor of other sets that align with the game better. In my opinion.  Looks like great fun however!

So I have done things like this, you have a toon at 50, something changed and you want to re-invent it. Even if not the most optimal it's what you got.

 

Anyways, the one thing I can see looking at the build is High Pain Tolerance, that adds MaxHP so you should 6 slot it with heal IOs to maximize what it can give you. Of course that means adding a slot and moving the resist IOs.

Good catch! Moving the Preventive Medicine proc to Fast Healing and replacing with a H/R in High Pain Tolerance (and +5 each of the set in HPT) gets it to 3206 with the Survival amplifier, 2981 without. Thanks!

I don’t know if I will end up building this. But I enjoy the character (he’s an homage to the Jersey Shore. Don’t judge) and it’s a relaxing change of pace from all my dark toons.

Alright. Added Gloom to smooth out the attack chain which allows for the removal of FF procs. With Survival amplifier, HP is 0.21 below cap. Raised S/L/E/N to be at or near T4 Barrier range of regular play softcap. Had one slot left over leaving a choice between 5% F/C defense versus 2.25% S/L resistance (with slot in Sprint for the 2-piece Celerity bonus). Other option would be to throw a recharge reduction in Build-up. Slow resistance added to reach a respectable 80%. All AoEs now have at least a chance for KD for additional mitigation.

So I couldn't resist playing around with this build/maxhp idea. My poking at it ended up changing couple of powers and that lead to changing Soul Mastery for Pyre.

Also gave up a lot of the resistance for defense. F/C/E/N defense all at or near soft-cap. Max HP sits at 3124 without an Amp, so would be well over with it

 

I wouldn't call it compete by any means (needs little more accuracy)  but the idea of how much HP could you get with these sets and still have a playable guy, well here is my take on that idea:

I am interested in this topic.  I have run many Brutes.  They were my "mains' on live and for the first year back on HC.  Mostly Invul, the Willpower, then both.  Started off with Invul on HC, then switched to Dark.  I have NEVER chased large health on Brutes.  Armor? Yes.  Recharge?  Oh yeah.  Accuracy, yep.  Health?  Huh, what?   They have health right?

 

I am currently slow levelling a Dark/Invul.  By slow I mean in the 444 hours to level 39 grind...  When I get to 50 I will have at least two builds.  One to continue my soloing quest.  One for teams.  Both should be high recharge.  Dark/Invul feeds off Recharge.  The 30 sec combat boost, the combat heal, Dull pain, it just closes up like an SR71 hitting mach 2.  (The SR71 blackbird needs to superheat its skin to expand the metal.  pre mach 2 the thing rattles like a junk truck!)

 

I was recently told my old Dark/Invul builds need more health pool.  Here is one of my current ideas.  Where should I go with this?

 

two notes, I meant to take the tier 2 attack.  brain fart.  Also the Hamis are placeholding for the D Sync Heal/Rech in Dull Pain...  err third note.  Will probably drop Sorcery pool.  Picking up Taunt.  Maybe switching out CJ for Leadership Manuevers.  That would leave me 2 choices....Tactics?  Touch of Fear? edit 1 choice.  I need fly.  NEED.

@SuperPlyx I really like that build. It's very creative in reaching the HP cap and I will definately be saving some of those tricks. I suspect that the accuracy will be fine when considering the Vigor alpha.

 

@Snarky I'm apprehensive as to mucking about the Hyperstrike invulnerability chassis. But if you are willing to rely on Agility for your alpha slot, you can pull back on your defensive slotting. One of the issues is how to balance psi resists and increased HP.

 

Here, I tossed all consideration for the psi hole out the window. However, this build goes all in on the fly pool (up to evasive maneuvers for more mobility). In fact with this slotting and the alpha slot, it's zipping around over 52 mph in hover/evasive. This Brute Mage sprints to slow down. Slow resists are maintained from the first build, but melee defense has dropped (keeping S/L at soft cap with 1 enemy in range). With 10 enemies in range, all damage types (except psi) are at or near softcap. HP is at 3182.5 (or about 30 points from cap). Hasten is almost perma so Soul Drain is also nearing permanence. Added the build-up proc to Invincibility for MORE DAMAGE OPPORTUNITIES. Caveat - I haven't played with Invulnerability since Live. Also, I really like Touch of Fear -- I mean a lot a lot. This is slotted purely as a mule. Would rather do something else. But this is a different take. Thanks for sharing!

I rarely try to patch the Psi Hole in Invul.  It starts to happen sometimes and then I play at it, but it is a fools errand imo.  I walk on Hyperstrikes work pretty hard lol, so no worries there.  Someone has to take the pure stuff and cut it enough for the street right?

 

Thank you for your work.  Right now everything is hypothetical, although I believe I will be finally 50ing this thing in less than 6 weeks!!!!

     Never got around to it on Live but this was exactly the approach I had on my Claws/SR Scrapper and definitely would have gone in that direction with my DM/SR Brute.  The older Live scrapper build had over 2100 health, less than 300 hit points shy of the scrapper cap (and no scaling resist or max health IO uniques in the build).  She often had nearly twice the passive regen of both many other scrappers and Brutes she encountered at the time (upper teens vs low 30's).

     Never got around to it on Live but this was exactly the approach I had on my Claws/SR Scrapper and definitely would have gone in that direction with my DM/SR Brute.  The older Live scrapper build had over 2100 health, less than 300 hit points shy of the scrapper cap (and no scaling resist or max health IO uniques in the build).  She often had nearly twice the passive regen of both many other scrappers and Brutes she encountered at the time (upper teens vs low 30's).  

 

2033 HP on current BZB Scrap with 283% regen not counting what comes in from procs. Gotta get that healing in there somehow.

     Once I can access and use Mids again it'll undoubtedly be one of the first things I work on.  Not sure if it won't be nearly a wash to get those new IOs in there but I'll definitely be taking a long look at it.  Makes me smile at the irony of having both Aid Self and Aid Another in the build.  But basically they are both mules for +max health and at one time helping her earn healing badges.  Extremely rare she'd use them while in combat.  Usually just Rebirth or occasionally topping off the health between major scraps.

With the market changes from Live (cheaper IOs, more readily available PvP and purple sets, etc…), there’s certainly more flexibility than from before. The juiciest HP bonuses are, mostly, achievable in the 3rd slot of a set. But really, health pools are just higher generally on Homecoming, at least anecdotally.  Even with just the passive accolades and the Unbreakable Guard unique, that’s a healthy - ahem - boost to any AT.

     Not that I recall hence needing Aid Another to make any serious headway towards those badges on my Scrapper.  At ~3500 hours game time on her fairly sure I would've noticed if passive regen was helping.

 

Edit: As an aside I don't think my Empaths were helped by using RegenAura but they weren't my badgers

The healing badges are easily achievable with a simple system.  Get Destiny Rebirth.  Join any AE arc.  This is so you do not log out.  Go to Mercy Island.   Near the base portalmpast the nurse there is a bunch of marching soldiers.  Stand in the middle of them and put rebirth on autofire.  Leave all night

There were other ways as well before incarnates came along though at this point I don't recall what the were.  Personal choice but I wanted her badges to be earned as naturally as possible.  Of course it was kind of crazy watching someone enter Rest, then pop 20 breakfree, overcoming Rest's immobilize, enter the lava pools on Tyrant's? map and be able to survive because of Rest's health regeneration boost (silly way to farm damage taken).
