I have revisited some of the old 3D Print posts and can confirm I can get character models extracted if I use OGLE and GLintercept as shown in Arcanaville/voodoogirl's post on cohtitan.

A couple notes:
I'm using an old laptop with the built in Intel GPU. This process doesn't work with my main machine's NVIDIA GPU.
I'm using Tequila with the 32bit version of CoH. (I know its days are numbered.) I haven't had luck with 64bit for this.
I use Blender to convert the OBJ file into STL (3D printable file). A little cleanup (credit to Dr Boston for their tips) is done with merging vertices, normalizing and for thin materials like capes & wings I do a subtle extrude to add some mass.
I apply a subsurf modifier to smooth out the polygon blockiness.
No textures are applied to the models (including bump maps). I usually paint these by hand on the printed pieces.

I have the process where I can capture and convert a model ready for 3D print in less than 10 mins.

These look really great. I really hope one day that getting 3D print ready models becomes layman-accessible; I would love to have some physical copies of some of my characters as desk ornaments.

Tanking is only half the battle. The other half...

Oh wow....I have access to several 3D printers...... what material are you using, and will the STLs have supports in file or will they need to be added?

Hi Kai. I use PLA filament on two different machines (Monoprice IIIP and Creality CR10). The STL comes straight out of Blender with no additional supports. I use Cura for my slicing and I add the supports there. I could share my profile from Cura as well and you can cherry pick the settings from there. I have pretty good luck with it but there’s still room for tweaking and improvements with the slicer settings.

Not so long ago, I printed out a wee statue for my wife, depicting the Widows we used to run when we were first dating.

I've not been able to capture CoH recently, but I hadn't thought to use a crappy GPU to do it. Good shout!

Here's a render from 8 years ago 😁

@TalonGrayson and I have been talking and can now say that I have had success with the new launcher and 64 bit mode.

Links found by TalonGrayson:

My ini file that goes into the path C:\Games\Homecoming\bin\win64\live (assuming that is your default install location/drive) is attached to this post. I use Shift Ctrl L to trigger the capture. It should put the ogle.obj file at  C:\Games\Homecoming\

I seem to need to use the -useTexEnvCombine as a launcher parameter to prevent the mesh from blowing apart.

Again reminder, doesn't work with NVIDIA (well haven't tested the new 64bit so that's my standing assumption for now). I use the built-in Intel GPU on my old laptop.

And not to be so dry as this is an "Art" thread, including most recent print of Supreme Thunder.

I am truly surprised there have been no requests posted here (though they may have been sent directly). I was holding off because I do not have a 3d printer and would have to approach my friend who has four to use a conversion file.

In all honesty I am surprised too. Only two people have come to me separately.

@Erratic1 Drop me a .costume and I'll convert it for you and you can talk with your friend on the printing. Let me know archetype/powers so I can pose it.

I'd like to talk to the GM/devs and see if they had any interest in adding a printed one as a monthly costume contest prize. I wouldn't mind printing one monthly. Only sticky point is shipping.

I know everyone's finical situation is different, but it is cool to see there are some really great 3D printers for under $200.

I tried holding a pvp event a while back. Team captains, win or lose, would've received a custom sculpted and 3d printed bust of their character as a participation prize. Not something grabbed from the game assets, a custom sculpt done in ZBrush of their character. I did not get enough response to run the event.

If you would be game, I would actually be interested in getting the 3 basic figures in the costume creator (huge, male, female) in OBJ. format to use as reference/base meshes for character sculpts.

Following up to my post above on the 64bit & new launcher working - even better news... this new GLintercept/OGLE is working on my NVIDIA card. No more hopping to my old machine.

This is fantastic news. It's amazing that OGLE not working on any of my machines for reasons unknown resulted in such a positive outcome.

Now to get it working on my machines (one is Radeon, the other NVIDIA, so here's hoping one of them works)

And to keep this thread arty...

@leeper48 grabbed my main for me, and sent me the OBJ. I'm no expert in Blender, but I'm comfortable in it, so I've decided to try and create a hi-res version of the model, suitable for resin printing, with as much detail sculpted into the thing as possible. Here's a render of my progress so far...

I will totally hit you up with a file for this! Life got busy there but the makerspace I have access to has a CR10 and uses Cura so the settings file would also be super great to start from! Expect a DM later today 😄

Here is my main, Human Conductor, painted. I did an experiment using my Cricut to make his emblem and I think it worked well. I was impressed how fine it could cut the little lightning bolts. I couldn’t have painted that detail by hand.

... side note I think I'm going to get a resin printer to see if I can cut down on these layer lines. They really pop out in these photos/zoomed in. Not so bad in real life but it might be my 40+ year old eyes smoothing the edges. 😄

Are you doing anything to address the layer lines before you paint? Resin printers are definitely better for smoothness and detail, but I've stayed clear of them because the resin is a lot more toxic than working with PLA.
