Fire/dark or dark/rad??

WitchofDread

Recommended Posts

Looking for a solid place for dark affinity and i have tried grav, elec, and ill but nothing really seems to fit for me so i thought i would give fire a try:

This build is VERY end heavy but Soul Absorption helps with that.

What is your opinion on this build? Am i missing anything? How do we think this would fair in all forms of content? Against an AV?

I suck at making builds, but I've had good luck following this guide from @Camel:

Global: @Valnara1; Discord Handle: @Valnara#0620

I primarily play on Everlasting, but you may occasionally find me on Indom. 🙂

Notable Characters: Apocolyptica - Demons/Storm MM; Lurking Monster - Human-Form WS; Environmentabot - Bots/Nature MM; Miss Fade - Ill/Traps Controller; Sister Apocalypse - Beast/Dark MM; Dr. Elaina Wrath - Plant/Rad Controller (Join the House of Wrath, and spread the word of science!); Ruff Ruff Boom - AR/Devices Blaster

The procs in Fire Cages, Hot Feet and Bonfire won't go off very often. Maybe proc out Dark Oblit instead of Hotfeet (5 Oblits & 1 End reduction in Hotfeet, since you'll probably need the End Reduction, and proc Dark Oblit out the wazoo). Cages is so low recharge and huge AoE the chance to proc is only 10%.

Also the 6 slot bonus from Superior Will of the Controller is really good, seems a shame to miss out on that set.

The Imps are also a wee bit low on damage. Maybe replace the Overwhelming Force in Bonfire for the Sudden Acceleration one and move the Overwhelming to your Fire munkies. That'll top off their damage and mean they'll knock things over a bit for you as well.

Hotfeet doesn't play the best with Hover if I remember right so maybe Manoeuvres instead?

Your single target damage is going to be pretty meh, not sure what's the best solution there is. Here's a small rejig / tweak

This is a very well put together build. You've done a very good job covering defenses and resistance. This character is durable, has strong sources of damage. Overall, excellent. The best part is that it can get even better from here.

I'll echo what Carnifax said about Bonfire. I'd reduce this to just a chance for 100% recharge proc and a KB to KD IO. I'd move these slots to Stamina so you're not wheezing for endurance as much.

Hot Feet usually works best with a x5 set. You can go with Armageddon, Ice Mistral's Torment, or Superior Avalanche, depending on what works for you. Procs here tend not to do much, so I hunt for bonuses, and make sure to cover Accuracy, Damage, and End Redux. FYI I tend not to go with Obliteration because it has low End Redux; the other three are more reasonable.

In Dark Embrace, be sure to take the +7.5% Max HP global.

Fire Cages I would slot with a damage set like Positron's Blast. Remember, procs don't benefit from Containment. So, even if a power seems like it does a little more damage procc'ed out, it actually may not when you consider what double the damage would be. You can keep a proc of your choice in the sixth slot (Posi's itself comes with a damage proc, so you'll have two).

Twilight Grasp probably needs more Accuracy. The set you have slotted is a Heal set that doesn't include any. Unfortunately the Accuracy+Heal sets have mediocre bonuses. You do get an extra damage proc out of Nictus though. Keep in mind, with this power probably all you really need is Accuracy, the Heal portion is less important to enhance. It's completely acceptable to lose some set bonuses here in order to move slots elsewhere in the build, and just put Acc/Heal Hami Os or frankenslots.

For Twilight Grasp, I agree that one accuracy is better and to go with 5 from a healing set since their bonuses are way better than accurate healing. I do have one of my level /dark controller that I haven't slotted for accuracy at all, in order to have all the set bonuses of a set. Instead, I rely on +Accuracy set bonuses. It seems to work fine as her Twilight grasp doesn't miss much.

IMO there are 2 things that are important for a Fire/dark controller:

1) To make sure you have good end reductions in powers, maximum +recovery of set bonuses, best end modification as possible. I would suggest to go with Agility Alpha once 50. The reason is that Hot feet is super end heavy.

2) Try to fit -Tohit in as much powers as you can (Including smoke) and some defense and Damage resist in Shadow fall and Fade. It will help greatly the Imps survivability even against thougher foes, like AVs and GMs.

Thanks for the tips/advice, really helps.

This build is super end intensive which i am concerned about, especially when it comes to levelling.

At the moment my acc with Twilight Grasp is at 193.1% isn't that enough? I run this on my ill/dark troller and water/dark corr and it seems to be fine.

I have swapped out Obliteration for superior avalanche as that does net higher end reduction overall and i only lose 2 secs on the global rech which at the moment hasten is sat at 133.5s 😢

I am considering swapping out cinders for ring of fire to bump up that ST damage.

Definitely going to have to take Ageless core Epiphany for my destiny power! Need to get that Fade perma, but hopefully the force feedback proc in bonfire will trigger consistently enough to bring down that global rech. Works wonders in my storm/dark def build.

I want a real powerhouse build but i cant help but think this isnt it!

  • WitchofDread changed the title to Fire/dark or dark/rad??

On another note how would dark/rad compare to fire/dark? Which would perform better overall?

i have been tweaking this build a lot to try keep hasten under 120s, cap S/L res and get as much ranged def as possible.

I chose primal force mastery primarily for Conserve Power as this build will need some form of end rec and it was either this or Power Sink from Mu Mastery.

Power Blast will add to the ST damage which is needed and Energy Torrent is pretty good.

I want a real powerhouse build but i cant help but think this isnt it!

I theory-crafted a Fire/Nature/Stone which looked interesting. Kind of a buffbot version of the classic Fire/Rad. But I already have a Necro/Nature and a Fire/Nature corruptor so didn't want to go Nature again. Nature is reasonably hands off once you've buffed yourself and your imps, letting you lock things down and splat them. Of course it's nowhere near as debuff-laden as Dark or Rad.

As to if you've enough accuracy in TG Mids should be able to give you the answer.  If it says when you mouse over that your hit chance is 95%+ at the difficulty you're running at then it's good.  Against +4's the number in the parenthesis should say 39%.  If it's any other number (like a default 75%) then you need to edit your base to hit in Mids.  I would suggest 1 Acc and either 5 Doctored Wounds or Panacea for the 5 slot recharge bonuses in those sets.

Fire/Nature is definitely strong synergy.

A lot of people don't realize it, because it happens late in the build, but Nature is actually the second best set for AoE +Damage buffs. It can't hit Kinetics levels, but +66% Damage for the whole team is never going to be bad, especially in a set already as capable as Nature. Nature lacks a substantial -Regen power (it can do -150%) but does have single target -Resist in the T1.
