NRG/NRG Blapper

Long time lurker here on the boards, first time posting. Below is my proposed build for an nrg/nrg blapper. I was trying to get softcap DEF on S/L and Ranged. I ended up getting it on Range and just shy of it on the S/L, a small purple should cover it. Couple of questions though, is Hasten needed? Without it, Mids says my attacks are recharging at 1 to 2.5 seconds depending on the attack. I'm not sure what the most optimized attack chain would be for this build yet, but I would think those recharge times are fast enough. Heck a couple of the powers according to Mids are recharging faster than the cast times, but that could be because of the FF IOs I have slotted. My other question is about my END usage and recovery. Even with Muscalature my END recovery is only 2.98(2.84 without) and usage is 1.27. Is it possible to improve this, or is that good enough? I got to give a shout out to Nemu for the slotting on the primary powers here. I have already done a Fire/Ele Blapper following his build which was awesome btw. Please critique the build and let me know how I can improve it, what you would do differently, or if you think it's awesome the way it is.

Blameau, my first blapper, was also Nrg/Nrg.  I also took Fly, but relied heavily on Air Superiority to juggle bosses.  Strongly recommend it, probably over Mace Blast.

 

I am not great at the slotting-fu, but blapping is a hoot!  May need to roll another one…

It's hard to get both S/L and Range softcap with the KB tax. One way you can work around it is to use power boost to buff your defenses before engaging to soak the alpha. That approach places a higher emphasis on recharge (and slow resist) which is not a problem with all the force feedback opportunities with this build, and you can get away with having 40ish defense to both S/L and Ranged defense that way. You could add hasten to help cycle powerboost a little faster, we are talking about a 6 second downtime vs 8 or 9 without hasten. And you have to deal with yet another click buff if you do take hasten (I put energize on auto on my /energy blasters). I've run hasten-less /energy blasters and they do fine even if their attacks cycle a little slower. 40% def is high enough for most content, and not chasing that last 5% gives your build some breathing room to chase other bonuses (like slow resist).

 

Combat mobility is key for a melee blaster, if you are going to stick with fly, I would recommend taking evasive maneuvers for more flight speed and more immob resist. Assault, stun and the mace blast are the powers I'd drop. Assault gives poor returns on investment and blasters get a damage buff just by attacking. Stun is a much less damaging version of Total focus and I'd rather use TF instead. You are only taking the mace blast for the set bonuses, and if you don't need to hit 45% you don't need to waste a power and 6 slots to mule it. You also don't need all the extra recovery in health/stamina. Energize will give you a huge end discount and you will rarely need additional recovery, and if you do, buy some recovery serums.

Recommend swapping Power Bolt for Power Blast. Higher damage and higher DPA. 

 

Recommend swapping Stun for Energy Punch. Stun is low damage and limited utility, especially if you're skipping Power Boost and Boost Range (which make Stun AoE and/or ranged). Energy Punch is the highest DPA attack in either set.

All the following is my opinion... Take what you like & leave the rest :)

 

I agree with Uun above. Also, I'd slot 4 LoTG in Weave for the +Acc, same for Scorpion Shield. I get the idea of building for s/l resist, but the totals don't look that great (to me!).

 

Also another controversial suggestion would be to shift the Numina set in Energize to a Gaussian's in Tactics. More def for S&L if you want to be in blap range. Double Reticles in Aim & BU shores up a bit more S/L def.

 

I wouldn't bother with Mace Beam Volley (unless it's thematic). With the changes Uun mentioned above plus all the recharge, I would imagine you wouldn't need to use it. I'd probably swap it for something like Power Push with 3 Explosive Strikes for more ranged def. 3 melee attacks, 3 ST ranged damage and 3 AoEs is more than enough unless you're really twitchy. Esp with all the +recharge

 

I'd drop the Lotg+Def and the Kismet from Hover and maybe put a couple of Zephyr's in there for KB prot and a bit of ranged def.

 

If you decide to swap Stun for Energy Punch, I'd drop 5 Blistering Cold's in there for a bit more S&L and decent damage.

 

Just messing with the build but putting Ex Strike in a 3 slotted power push and making the changes above gives 43/43/44 S/L/R with three hard hitting melee attacks and decent ranged options. A Musc alpha will shore up the damage and End use won't be a problem. Energize is fab. To that "end", I'd probably pull the excess slots from Health & Stamina, but it might be worth playing it first to check.

Like what has been said previously S/L def and Ranged def are hard to soft cap.

What is easier is Ranged def and S/L resists and makes you a lot tankier.
