Ok so the next project is running a Savage Melee toon with a Symph/Thermal and Symph/Dark.

What AT benefits from Savage and what secondary. The wife rolled up a stalker awhile ago (savage/Willpower) and absolutely loves it. I know thermal and dark are going to boost her heals/buffs both res and def.

So really any secondary would be good. But what is your opinion of a secondary that makes it shine?

Shield is fun on stalkers.  You can easily soft-cap, and get some resist and +HP, along with a second tele-attack in Shield Charge to pair with Savage Leap.  And that gives you a decent amount of AoE on a ST specialist AT.

I thought I had made one, but it was a savage/shield brute.  Tons of fun.  For what it's worth, here's the build I made for that.

Savage/Electrical on a Brute.

Fury pumps your damage aura and your bleeds. Avoid spending Blood Frenzy stacks unless Blood Thirst is on cooldown, allowing you to restore stacks (completely opposite the way one would expect to use the power). Between Lightning Reflexes and Blood Frenzy stacks you should need able to sit at +40% global recharge so long as you continue to reliably hit targets. Moreover, since you get an endurance discount from Blood Frenzy stacks this helps keep your endurance up at levels before you get Power Sink.

Anything that adds recharge is good for Savage.

Scrapper Savage is a double-edged thing: On the one hand you can game ATO2 in Leap for the 90% proc rate, then get crits on Flurry with the radius boost it gets from Frenzy stacks.  On the other hand DoTs are not counted in Critical Hits, so downside on that.

Brute Savage had the DoTs boosted by Fury, so advantage there in terms of damage output.

Stalker Savage, like most stalker primaries, improves ST performance on the set.

As to secondaries?

Pretty much an open field on that for Savage.  I personally would avoid Stone because (unless this has been fixed) Brimstone doesn't work with Leap (Or Lightning Rod, btw). Outside that you're pretty much good on any secondary.

Among the Savage Scrappers I've made Savage/Invuln was pretty interesting as it allows for putting Gaussian's in the toggle and using Blood Thirst as a reactive power eliminate the Frenzy lockout and get those 5 stacks back up again.  (The damage buff on BT is 41.5%/33% depending on AT).  Having Gaussian's in BT on my Brute (sav/wp) was always frustrating.

Honestly, I've considered re-rolling that toon as a Tank (Invuln/Svg in that case).  RF with 5 Frenzy stacks and Tanker's AoE size buffs has to positively massive in radius.

You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

Alot of excellent choices, I will pass on to her so she can decide.

A bunch of benefits from each, I have zero experience with savage so I cannot give her any advice. If it was me I know what I'd choose.

But, I'm sticking to support these days.
