BTW, I noticed something when editing the top post.  In the "All That Glimmers" 3.x series, here are the mission numbers:

• All That Glimmers 3.1: Summonings in Nerva Archipelago [43022]
• All That Glimmers 3.2: Ninjas in the Wind [40394]
• All That Glimmers 3.3: Gods in the Planes [43537]

Part 3.2 was published before the other two—May 2021 as opposed to August and September for 3.1 and 3.2, respectively.  @Ankylosaur, what's the story there?

So they say to write the ending first…

 

I wrote Ninjas in the wind as a standalone to explore Neo Tokyo and the Order of the Wind. It’s also why it has more plays than the others. 
 

Was really pleased with the arc, and it accomplished something I needed for another idea I had, which was to follow up on the Mu’Vorkan thing from the Dark Astoria series though my take on what was supposed to happen per the AMA is the opposite. But the struggle for power among the Mu/Scirocco is definitely the through line. 
 

After writing Glitters, where I had to completely change my original ending because my first one was not that good, for Glimmers I used Ninjas in the Wind as a clear destination for the stories preceding it. 
 

Overall Glimmers was a much more coherent story in my head from the beginning of writing it than Glitters.
 

Glitters is there now, but took a lot of rework to get there. Itwas my first multi arc attempt, sprawled a bit, and went on few tangents - not to mention needing to rework it to incorporate all the new Gold Brickers and their updated lore with the Aeon SF.
 

Anyway - each is pretty tight now - but 9 arcs is too long. It’s why Glints and Glows are 3. The All the Glows dates might be even weirder. But that is quite literally a different story. 🙂

You're right of course. 🙂 

But at least I pared Glitters down from 12... Originally Glitters 1.1 - 1.3 was an intro to all of the different series - they all branched off it. But that was confusing to most - so now Glitters is simpler and linear, but the only one which has missions below level 20.

 

 (But yeah - people are more apt to commit to 3 and even that is a stretch.  One shots still seem to grab most attention, with Adventures in Wonderland being my most successful with 800 ratings between what it has now and what it had before I accidentally unpublished it. That is more than all my other 30+ arcs and their ratings added up. Oh and I noticed that Adventures in Wonderland is back on page one! Wish I had not lost my 780ish ratings, but no one to blame but me.)

Just a small note to clairify why the All That Glitters lineup no longer looks like this in AE. 

 

Short version: These four arcs were replaced with one arc, tightening the story, and taking from 12 arcs to 9.

 

Specifically, after Engineria's playthrough it was clear it was way too long and I tightened up this section significantly.

• Removed 3.2 and 4.1 entirely
  • Originally Glitters was supposed to be 9 arcs - but after a poor initial ending, I wrote several more to carve a path to a new ending.
    • Really though, as demonstrated by the fix - it could easily fit in 9. Cut, cut, cut...
    • A few tidbits did get incorporated into what remained - some even moving upstream in the story - mostly into 2.3. 
  • The core of these two arcs were strong though, and had some connected contacts in The Doctor and Number 6. I re-purposed them with  a different story in my "Monkey" series (Almost called All That Gleeps 🙂 ) 
    • 3.2 got some different players and a new story.
      • This allowed me to also cover the one Praetorian group that made it to Prime that does not appear in my other arcs: The Syndicate
      • The setting of the isles also did not gel super well with the progression of the Gold Brickers expanding into hazard zones in Paragon
      • Was mainly in the isles to involve the wyvern contact and story there - and Wyvern going after the syndicate works just as well.
    • 4.1 touches on the Council and the Nictus after the Fall of Striga, (in Councilvania! 🙂 ) but I cover that in more detail now in All That Glints (Council/Awakened) and All That Glows (5th Column/Nictus).
      • So it was not that important to the All That Glitters story and had a fun Monkey angle I could work in instead.
      • This originally continued the theme of the Gold Brickers moving into hazard zones and brought Vanguard in for the Praetorian connection. But in the end the GB were barely in RWZ, and my "Kingston Heights" zone they rebuilt next to Khalisti became more important. Also this story did not really revolve around them, but more the Rikti Freakshow, UPA, and the Council, so felt a bit tangential.
• Combined 3.3 and 4.2 
  • Realized there was some overlap and maybe a-little-too-slow reveal of info.
  • A few defining moments were in those two arcs though, so I combined them into one action-packed one - still called Calamity in Kalisti Wharf.

Nothing wrong with that!

Although I wish I'd finished up that final trilogy.  I will, whenever the maps I want/need appear.  Or I can work out a valid workaround.  Which at the moment I'm stumped on.

Anyway, there's other writers to review alongside @Ankylosaur and @cranebump when mine are done.

I'm using up all my spare time while I can.  Still feel bad that I had to leave such a gap before. And I know I've another heavy bout of work ahead of me, but hopefully I'll manage it better this time.  Thanks though!

I wonder if anyone (sorry if this sounds bad @TerroirNoir3, it's not meant to) reads all these?  I mean besides us named writers and I know @Clave Dark 5 comments, and @Zhym I believe did all this listing thing because they were reading.

 

Ultimately I'm back pondering if our tiny AE community is a sealed bubble with very few others looking in apart from hunting for farms to PL to 50.

No offence taken at all.  I sometimes wonder that myself but I don't expect an audience.  I just wanted to share my fun of playing all these AEs.  If some people read and enjoy it then that's good.  If they read and don't enjoy it?  Well, ok, it's not for them.  If they don't see it at all?  Not much I can do about that!

As someone who only shows up every-so-often, these threads are great documents, when I'm in an AE mood and want to find arcs to play.

 

I think new folks must wander in here and are helped out, much more so than the in-game interface.

Pretty much this.  I mean, I know this section of the forums is fairly dead, but if we can get one or two in to check out some stuff, anything helps right?

Even if it's a small community, it's still a community.  If there are far fewer of us than those who prefer to powerlevel through fire farming—well, so what?  They have their fun, we have ours.  I'm just glad people are writing SFMA AE arcs.  I've always been a fan of level editors and other toolkits that transform a "mere" game into a toolkit for building more stories than the developers can (or want to) tell.  So I'm also glad that @TerroirNoir2 is writing about them, even if the Nielsen ratings on the Cable Chaanel of AE aren't exactly drawing in big advertiser dollars.

 

Although, now that I think of it: @TerroirNoir2, your posts should totally have sponsors.  I mean, Drenched Donuts is famous, but the place is always locked when I try to go in, so they must need more business.  And Chris Jenkins has got to be a big advertiser, right?
