Looking to take advantage of the revamped Axe, but not sure what best to pair it with.

Axe/Shield has similar synergy to WM/Shield, which is to say, a lot. Shield is all around awesome on it's own.

Axe/Stone seems like it's got potential as well, with Brimstone armor spreading around quite a bit of damage through Axe's AoEs. I don't have any experience with Stone, but on paper, it looks kinda... meh? There's a mix of Def and Res, but not high values on either - am I missing something?

Anything else worth considering?

I'd ideally like to make this Axe/* Scrapper an AoE monster that can be used for some of the HM TFs. I know that Tanks are better for AoE potential, but I want to actively avoid rolling a Tank because I don't want the responsibility of actually tanking...

Stone armor is pretty good overall. I'd give it a whirl on the test server if you're unsure about it. But it's a set worth playing on not just a tank.

I have a Axe/SR scrapper that I'm starting to spec out the defenses a bit better, but even with only a few sets in, hits very hard.  Really only faceplants if I do something very stupid.   Normal amounts of scrapperlock are survivable.

Perfect - I want it for a NOT tank, so that's ideal.

What makes it good? I don't think I'm seeing the whole picture.

It is just so layered defensively AND brings extra damage. Honestly, if it had a taunt aura on a Scrapper, it’d be perfect.

I paired mine with Bio and used efficient adaptation through the early stages to help with endurance. Later stages I never run low on endurance.

There's a lot going on so that's fair.

Beside what Strider mentioned, Stone also has a relatively quick cooldown self heal+maxHP with Earth's Embrace; it's basically Dull Pain with half values and half CD, which is handy both proactive and reactively.

Also Mud Pots, which has low mag Immob and a decent slow, on top of the DoT effect. This means that between Ace Cyclone and Mud Pots, you're actually really well positioned to cluster mobs and either prevent or gimp runners. Minions at the least won't be going anywhere.

You get pretty ridiculous End Drain resists. Mu, Sappers, Clockwork are all going to learn to fear you. You also get Perception and Confusion protection so Crey and Arachnos (among others) a feel less frustrating to fight.

SL Def is startlingly easy to cap, or even overcap. If you're of the "all gas no brakes" mindset you can get to this point and stop building defense altogether.  Team buffs (and use of Earth's Embrace + Geode) will take you the rest of the way.

Geode is the ultimate OS button. Totally skippable as well, but I like to mule Synapses Shock Runspeed in here (Prev Med also an option, though I slot that in EE).

I'm probably missing more, but I'm a fan of all the stuff stone brings to the table.
