Choking Cloud is in fact a game changing power.   All it takes is two of us hitting that spawn at roughly the same moment to pretty much lock the spawn down up to and including any bosses (and at 3+ they're basically held almost immediately).  I've a Lockdown proc in mine right now.  While it does fire off fairly reliably I don't think it does much for the effectiveness while running with other Rad/Fires as part of the superteam, at least so far.  That said it might make more of a difference vs a spawn with multiple EB's such as the 3rd map of the ITF and/or vs higher level spawns (i,e, +4's).  It might also be interesting to try it with multiple Rad/Fire who've proc'd out CC.  And after seeing @Bumguffyusing Fold Space I'll just say it's crazy good fun and totally has me planning to respec to get it included in my build.  Not sure how risky it is for us but the teleported foes are dropped right into multiple Choking Clouds, Rad Infections and Rain of Fire and promptly melted.

The following is a work in progress.  Thoughts or questions welcome (if I can get it to work ... haven't done this in a decade).

Appears to have worked, Yay.

This build looks pretty solid to me for running in a regular team although there's a few powers I'd slot differently and a few powers I'd swap out.

The proc-bomb Char looks like fun but if I was going to use that many slots I'd likely prefer to have Blazing Bolt and maybe not even bother with Aim.

For super-teaming I'd think Hasten, Aim and Char could be swapped out for other powers (Blazing Bolt, Consume...)

I'm really struggling trying to figure out what to chase with sets (purely for super-teaming) but seem to come back, strangely to +Rech. I tried +Res but didn't feel overly convinced with the feel of it. I toyed with +Range which looked like you could make blaze into a snipe and which made the actual snipe look like you could reach the moon with it - again this didn't seem overly useful for what we are doing.

So this is my current thinking (below) - which has scant +Acc and chases more +Rech for utterly bonkers inferno usage. Always in the back of my mind I have to remember that there could be up to 8xAM, 8xMan, 8xAssult, 8xTactics, 8xCC, 8xRoF, 8xFireball, 8xRadInf, 8xEF, 8xLR(perma), 8xInferno and 8xAoEHeal (for those 'Guff's gone in too soon again' moments). So have gone for as much PBAoE tricks as possible.

Looks very solid.  I do like the way Fold Space is at 20th level  (or available as low as 15th while exemplar)

Mostly IO's are for teaming outside the superteam (or if only 2 or 3 of us are on at that time) as honestly most of what's slotted probably only starts to matter when (if) we hit 3 and 4-star hardmode content and then mostly it's going to be the defensive side of the equation.  Even 8 Maneuvers plus 8 Rad Infection on top of the defensive numbers (in our two builds) is short of the sorts of numbers we'd need defensively in hard mode.  Of course then there's Barrier and if we stay very tight we'll tend to turn everything into statues merely moving close (or Folding them close).  I didn't include it but learning as a group to use Team Teleport is one way to very quickly put all our CC on the spawn to lock it down almost immediately.  No accidental splits or only 2 or 3 jumping in.

Yeah - I may try Team Teleport as well before the 'final' respec as arriving 'in mob' at the same time would be of great benefit (at least to reducing the chances of me getting the more advanced debt badges). The only limitation I've found with Fold Space is that it seems to be 'line of sight', hence why I'm sometimes lurking on the fringes trying to find the best spot to fire it off. With all the Choking Cloud goodness about I find that it is safer USING Fold Space than not and like you say there's the bonus of 'old' debuffs and underutilised RoFs to 'reuse'.

I think as long as Maneuvers is slotted well for +Def then 8 times should get us close to (or over) the soft cap for defense - but should things get tricky we can start to rely more on the 3 amazing debuffs that Rad gives us. It's part of what I love about Rad - all it's good stuff doesn't require switching targets from mobs to team-mates.

I seem to be evolving my playstyle every 'super session' and am now looking to bunch bad guys around us before thinking about using Fireball and Rain of Fire - it's like playing a weird combination of 'old skool' herding tank, overpowered controller and nuking mini-blaster. And this is before considering all the top drawer 'defendery' type stuff we can do (heals, debuffs and big numbered leadershipness).

I'll stop here as it seems like I'm making up words to show my excited-giddyosity,

Cheers,

Guff.

If it's not broke, fix it until it is.

Yes, to be clear our defenses with 8 Maneuvers running will put everyone at the soft cap of 45 {assuming the build has even minimal defense from other sources).  As a team we will be easily capable of chewing through +4/x8 normal content.  Adding in Rad Infection is mostly gravy.  In fact Rad Infection becomes largely redundant and mostly useless as we start using IO builds and higher levels are reached.  As a team we don't need the defense debuff we've got more than enough To Hit and with capped defenses adding To Hit debuff likewise adds very little,  Enervating Field becomes much more useful than RI.  The issue I'm alluding to comes with the later stars of Hard Mode content where the soft cap shows just how soft it is as it can reach triple digits.  They'll have an Incarnate base to hit, plus a 4 star to hit boost, plus up to 4 sets of their own Tactics running.  Takes a lot more than +45 or even +60 to cap defenses against those values.

More fun last night - going again this afternoon/evening. (See thread title)

Team Teleport -> Fold Space -> Inferno is one of the more satisfying attack chains* I've come across. If you're too quick then sometimes, in comedy fashion, you swap places with the group you are trying to get close to and end up firing Inferno off into thin air.

Hope to catch you all later.

Guff.

*attack chain* AKA debt badge encourager. (Disappointing to give @Techno more that one opportunity to justify Veng.)

If it's not broke, fix it until it is.

Sorry I missed out on yesterday's teaming and Inferno goodness.  I should be online tonight at more or less my usual later time.  Started playing around with Combat Teleport for the first time on another character.  It could act as an early version of team teleport but would require a lot more coordination to get everyone in spawn at the same time.

One of the few teleport powers I've skipped - really only needs one person with Team Teleport to make it work - fold space however might need 2 or 3 of us to get it as it's recharge is that much longer.

Be good to see you later hopefully.

Yeah Fold Space will definitely benefit from insane recharge (i.e. capped or near capped).  At the cap (500%) that's every 24 seconds and 40 seconds with 300%.  How tough an opponent can be teleported.  It appears to be just shy of twice the strength of Teleport Foe in CoD (if I'm interpreting it correctly)

Anecdotally it works well on +3 mobs. It's late here so have finished for another session however if there are some of you about soon or over the next week (while I'm on holiday) then carry on with the Rad/Fire goodness.

Would be good to try an ITF on Thursday the 13th April 6pm EST - shout on here if you fancy it or leave a thumbs up.

Cheers,

Guff.

I'm hoping to meet up sometime this week.  Family kept me busy till nearly 11pm eastern so I called it a night.  Then I rediscovered the joys of playing on a hot spot early next morning.  Normally not bad (I mean the game was meant for an era with dial up), but we were out of this month's minutes so maybe that's what made it painful.  Got booted twice while zoning and every load screen took forever and a day.  Hopefully better this week.  If not minutes reset in about a week

Hope you all have had some Rad/Fire fun while I was away and are at least level 35 now?

I'm thinking for this Thursday's ITF session, that;

  • it would be best to save time on the night, so ensure you have access to Cimerora before the published time.
  • we should run the TF as a 'kill most' and not worry about 'getting a time'. Have fun with ridiculous teleport effects and give @Techno the opportunity to maximise his veng.
  • if we are less than 5 then open it up to any other Rad Emission toons that want to join (as long as their KB is negligible/controlled).
  • actual levels will be discussed on the night depending on the team size/make up.

Here's hoping that the time away from this team has galvanised our resolve - although the opposite is usually true when there is a period of 'time away'.😮

As an aside I'm now thinking of Psy for epic, what's everyone else thinking?

Looking forward to it,

Hope to see you there,

Guff.

I'll have to wish you luck.  There's pretty much no way I can get home and online in time.  And my wife has just become obsessed with writing a novel she's had floating in her head and so there's "competition" for computer time ... and you can probably guess who wins there after I've had the two previous days free while she's at work.  I prefer a bed over the dog kennel in any case.

For an Epic I went for Fire Mastery for the moment (overall more Fire!) but choices, choices.  I liked the idea of Char with procs as we should be at or near the damage cap (+43% per Rad/Fire on top of the powers enhancement) making procs and resistance debuffs the only way to further up damage output.  I also wanted a resist based epic shield as outside of Hardmode or Incarnate content we're already sitting essentially at the softcap with little effort and have  Radiant Aura for healing making damage resistance the next significant mitigation tool.  And then there's options with pets and ... .

Being granted access to the bed seems like the sensible choice.

I like the idea of proc-bombing a hold however my build (Dominate) doesn't really have the slots to dedicate to it 😞

When I looked at Flame Mastery I wasn't sure if there was a third power I'd want to take as the recharge on consume is just too long for any useful sapper/AoE damage. Which is probably why I'm wondering if another toggle of World of Confusion would be of any benefit - which includes a tiny bit of of PBAoE psy damage. With the rate at which mobs die in this team I not sure if there would be any noticeable advantage to both hold AND confuse with PBAoE toggles? Although the more I look at WoC's small radius the more I think it maybe overkill.

As for pets I'm not sure there's pixel-room for Team Teleport and Fold Space for all the good+bad guys as it is...

Hey @Bumguffy - pleasure to meet another brit on Excel! Feel free to drop me a global add on @Xiddo in-game. Have been recently trying to do slower, contact runs, with team-focussed toons. Im behind on this project but I think I might hop on the rad/fire train. Ill see if I can drag @MoonSheep along too. Hopefully see you in the city 🙂

Excellent!

I certainly echo your desire for team-focus-ness. So far we've met 5 or 6 times, the content has largely been radio missions (to ensure that as many different time zones can drop in and out as appropriate). However for this week I thought of mixing it up and starting a bit later (for us in BST) so as to ensure the best possible chance of participation however, as you know, once the TF starts it'll be locked into 'who we have' at the time, which may not be ideal for new starters (esp. as ITF is min level 35 iirc).

I'm glad that there is new interest despite the timing - if normally playing late on a Thursday evening is going to be too restrictive for yourselves then perhaps next time I'll schedule a longer window to let folk come and go. Indeed there's no reason to keep us at once a week if the demand dictates. I've not played that much since coming back off of holiday so not sure where everyone else is at (although I suspect that most folk have had a couple of weeks off RadFiring).

I'll be sure to add your global in-game later on and if the ITF doesn't pan out I'll let you know and maybe the remainder of us can do something more inclusive. We usually use discord (mostly because my 'typing while TPing' usually goes horribly wrong) - the timing of these teams usually means I don't have the wife rolling her eyes at me while I chat to internet-strangers - I'm sure she knows that she 'could have done better'.

Catch ya later,

Guff.

Last night's ITF was loads of fun for me - the Team Teleport into the middle of a group and then deciding when to use Fold Space still hasn't got old. It would seem that (on this team) more often than not EBs would get teleported too, which made some of the 'harder' elements of an ITF really quite easy.

That doesn't mean there weren't a few comedy faceplants, despite @Technoclaiming top spot on that leaderboard the judges, last I checked, were still discussing their split decision...

Due to the horrible scheduling of this superteam there was only 5 of us but playing at +1x8 meant the xp poured in - I finished the evening at 'Lessons in Love' (A little 'Level42' joke for all you 80's kids - you're welcome).

Even though the timezone issue is restrictive for a full team compliment, I'll keep with the usual schedule until someone can suggest an alternative. In my sleepy state before logging last night I recall a discussion about doing the ITF again next week which I think we should hold as a plan or if we have lower level members joining something 'inclusively appropriate'. Might be best to gather at the normal time (or earlier if you're 'about') and do regular missions so as to give others the best chance at joining before deciding on the TF.

Until next time,

Guff out.

Thursdays for the foreseeable future looks to be pretty iffy for me.  That said i should be online well before 6pm eastern on both Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Being a semi-retired CoH gaming nut has me online a large portion of both those days currently.  Happy to meet up with any RadEm/Fire at those times.

Good to know - I may be on again later today so if anyone is about and can see others online (assuming you have swapped 'globals') then go burn (and lightly irradiate) as required.

I may also be  about on Wednesday - so will see how well populated we are over these alternate times and adjust the schedule as necessary.

Hopefully catch you later.

This is my current thinking for my Rad/Fire - seems that so far we only really need one TPTeam so no doubt yours will differ.

Having had two of us with Fold Space works well however one or two others (if well coordinated) would be gravy.

The Quark Enigma current thinking on build.  Will have Fold Space.  Radiant Aura delayed to high lvl.  Combat Teleport for Gaussian's proc.  Switched from Fire Mastery to Psychic Mastery with Dominate proc'd out (instead of Char).  Lots of KB protection.  Emphasis on Recharge, Global Accuracy.  Mitigation will come from primarily a combo of Choking Cloud (stacked with teammates to pretty much lock everything down very quickly).  Anything attempting to stay at range will get ported in by Fold Space (Snipers, Long Bow Eagles, Cimeroran Surgeons etc.).  Inferno recharges at essentially the same time as Fold Space (about 40 seconds).
