Haven't played in a couple years, but since I have been back I noticed that doing the same trades yields little to no profit, and the consignment fees are so high? what was the reasoning behind raising consignment fees?

There have been no changes in consignment fees since the auction house was introduced during Live.  You are misremembering or suffering from some other sort of cognitive bias.

Some stuff has become cheaper,  but that's just because more people have been generating stuff (I think).  No change in fees have happened as Yomo states.

They were NOT raised.  But your initial observation is correct in my opinion.  Margins have become narrower and it is (slightly) more difficult to turn a profit.
