Salvage Access While Crafting in SG

Recommended Posts

Hey Devs,

Can we get access to the full base salvage storage while crafting in the SG? Just add a flag or marker to make it so salvage cannot be removed from any bins while someone is crafting at a table and then make that salvage immediately useable while crafting in the SG.... as opposed to having to grab each item specifically off the shelves.... this seems like easy QoL sort of thing for crafting in SG!

Please do be sure to let other SG members add to the base salvage bins though... just not removing as that would create dup issues with latency to a server and things.

Thanks for the time and considerations!

And what happens if a player is currently putting salvage into the bins or taking salvage out of the bins when someone decides they want to craft? Sorry, but I have to oppose this. If it is that much a problem, then put your storage bins near your crafting table and put more crafting tables around the bins.

I do believe I addressed most of these points already, but in a brief way that one might talk about code and that could be overlooked by others...

people should still be able to add to the list [yes they should be able to add to any salvage bin the whole time] while you're accessing it (i.e. while you're crafting and utilizing items on the list... [I'm assuming these are coded into some list functionality at some place]),

and others should not be allowed to pop from the list [take away from any salvage bin] while you're crafting (this is ripe for dupe issues, we're talking about salvage, but the rare salvage would add up quickly and latency issues with multiple users from around the globe to a server and yadda yadda; hence flag it for others to not take away up front)...

also this should be a flag enabled option for those that actually want it and see value in it... many players have solo SG bases and this could even be seen as a help to those in larger more public bases... however, I'm sure there are some maniacal maniac individuals that would see this as a plight to their whole being - great thing this game has a myriad of UI locations where something like this could be turned on and off by someone with the authoritah within their specific SG bases...

additionally, you're assuming about my SG design... I've got many tables between all my bins because I'm lazy and I even have my storage organized by color(rarity) and alphabetized (it is labeled too) and i'm the only one in it so it stays exactly as i organize it... but still having to run from one bin to another is tedious and lame... I cannot store all common, uncommon and rare salvage within a tight space that is reasonable that requires me to not have to open/close/move/open/close/move/open/close/move... I don't believe that this is achievable with just the common salvage alone... do you have an instructional "how to" video posted somewhere with a magical one stop location for crafting in an SG base and having access to enough salvage storage to maintain a "reasonable" amount of all salvage in the game with a crafting table in proximity? again, I'm lazy... if you have the magic then share so I can lazy better, thanks!

if this magical setup does not exist and possibly is difficult to achieve given the size of various items for storage in question, then perhaps this idea has some merit, even if it fails to meet the likeability rating of every single player in the game

anyways, Devs please take into consideration and thanks for your time!

I'm not assuming anything about anyone's base. I didn't say you don't have enough of anything or that you arranged them wrong. What I said was:

That's all I said about base design. Placing storage bins near the crating tables and placing more crafting tables by the storage bins means you don't have to travel back and forth as much. Especially if you place a crafting table at each storage bin. Personally, I prefer to not have my crafting tables at my storage bins. It disrupts my design. However, sometimes someone may prefer convenience over design. And placing multiple crafting tables at your bins is certainly an option.

Here is the problem. When someone is interacting with a storage bin, that specific bin is not available for others to use. For example, my bases are meant as single player bases, but I invite my friends to join anyway. (Edit: Fortunately, all my bases are linked via open coalition, so any of us can go to any of the bases whenever we want.) And when any of them are interacting with the storage bins, I'm locked out of interacting with the storage bin (s)he is using. Your proposal would make all salvage storage bins automatically in use by the person using a crafting table. That makes those salvage storage bins unavailable to others. And if you have multiple crafting tables so multiple people can craft at once, then you run into the storage bin interaction problem even for trying to use the crafting tables for the salvage you have on hand. Meaning you would effectively lock anyone other than the person currently using a crafting table from being able to use any other base available crafting table because they are all trying to access all the storage bins at once.

This feels like an incredibly infrequent issue that is asking for a revision to part of the code that is extra-spaghetti for extremely limited payoff.

I can think of numerous work-arounds (for the player); the simplest is to not be trying to keep storage item windows open.

@Mac B, Base Storage was not made as another tier of a unified Storage System (like in Star Wars: The Old Republic, where there's Personal Storage, Ship Storage, Legacy Storage, and Guild Storage).  It was made as a way to store various items (either Inspirations, Salvage, or Enhancements) for an entire Supergroup.  There are SG Permissions on each Storage item (max 18 per Base) to control who can deposit and who can remove items from that Storage item.

The items can only be used on a Toon after removal from Storage.  There was no envisaging of using items directly from Storage.

To change this in an existing MMO is a rather radical change.  That would demand a large amount of work by the Dev team, more so than designing this from scratch.  As not only does the new system need to work properly (and handle complex cases of automatically drawing from varying Storage items), but there would have to be a transition from the old system to the new.

So, maybe I'm not reading this properly?
Or maybe you're unaware.

Rather than take up a page with this picture, I'll put it in a spoiler section for illustration.
Each storage bin, whether it's salvage or enhancements has its own permissions settings.

See below:

Simply change the permissions to allow others to "Put" so they can unload their loot as well as take it. (or don't let them take it, not my call)

Just FYI, while one character has a storage item open, other characters can still drop stuff into the rack. (if they have permission to)

They just can't see what is in it while the other character has it open.

As to the original request, I don't see it happening until the storage in bases gets rewritten. (not that we've seen that even being contemplated)

Our SG base has storage racks near a crafting table and I frequently interact with it and my personal vault at the same time while I craft.  I pull salvage from both places and drop into my inventory and craft away!  It's easy and saves many back and forth trips to the racks.  The interact radius for the racks and crafting tables are fairly big, so you can interact with 2, and three racks away.  Maybe more, depending on how you set them up.

Unless the old code gets rewritten - and it sounds like it's a nightmare of a job from reading other post - I don't think anything is gonna happen here.  So, just put a crafting table in the middle of your racks and go to town crafting.  🙂

i don't see much benefit from doing that (none to me since i keep solo bases for extra crafting room) but i can see negatives, like someone deciding to grief people by opening a craft window and going afk meaning nobody can use the salvage racks until someone with a high enough rank can kick them from the SG
