Spaghetti Betty Posted October 31 Posted October 31 (edited) Hello again! So, I dusted off my SS/Regen for the first time in awhile. As, I was playing, an interesting thought occurred to me: How can I tweak this? I think this is something every theory crafter in this game can relate to. See, I was noticing a very key detail that has come to bother me in my ascent to Agent of Chaos. With the Gloom recharge nerf, I no longer had a seamless attack chain! In fact, it was pretty rough! So I did what any goblin would do, and I started brainstorming ways to fix that gap, even if it meant losing a bit of mitigation in the process! This is admittedly a very scary thought process when it comes to working with Regen, but that's never stopped me! After a few days, I came up with this! Kerpow! SSRegen2024 - Brute (Super Strength - Regeneration).mbd Spoiler Old build for direct comparison: Go crazy, go stupid - Brute (Super Strength).mbd Now that I have the pretty picture in front of you, lemme go ahead and divulge what all has changed! A new, seamless attack rotation* - Whereas the old build was running something like (Punch -> Haymaker -> Gloom -> KO Blow -> [other things]), this one is possible of using (Haymaker -> Cross Punch -> KO Blow/Char). It also has a lot of new, fun tools, such as the aforementioned Char and Melt Armor. This helps immensely with damage! +-With Hasten active Slightly less overall mitigation - A smidge of survivability overall has been traded off. Fast Healing is gone, which is a penalty of about 100% regeneration. This build also has 4% less RES across the board. The biggest blow to mitigation here is the loss of Hand Clap. Having an AoE KD/Stun on demand puts in a lot of work, and I can really feel not having it. Oh well, I'll just play harder to compensate! Hahahahaha... Anyways, I'm pretty satisfied with how this has turned out! I even cooked up some demos for your viewing pleasure! Above, I drag this hulking monster through a controversial enemy group - the NuCouncil! Besides the fact that Galaxy soldiers probably have the most annoying new power in the game, this goes relatively well, even with all massive additions of Negative damage! I even make some cheeky pulls towards the end to really see what the build can do! And then, just for kicks, I took on a +4 Infernal! I figured this would be a pretty good benchmark, considering Infernal does a ton of common damage (Lethal) and a good amount of exotic damage (Fire). Yes, I did use a Lore and Evenomed Daggers, but they were there to speed the fight up. I still had to mitigate all of the incoming damage. This is a really good example of how close to the chest a build like this has to be played. I even left a death in at the very end, just to highlight that getting lazy just for a little bit leads to floor munching. I thought he was dead! We'll just act like it didn't happen. As always, I welcome all feedback, questions, or comments! Thanks for reading! Edited October 31 by Spaghetti Betty 2 2 Mainly on Excelsior. Find me in game @Spaghetti Betty. WuTang Posted October 31 Posted October 31 I always like your builds. I refer to any post you've made if I'm looking at building with any one of the 3 "regen" secondaries. I do like how this build is like, "rage crash...smage crash!" Just hakuna matata... I do particularly like how you slotted Char and will likely be borrowing it for future. Tell me though, how is your accuracy so high, or is MIDs bugging? I turned Rage and Vigor off, and it still showed ~160% accuracy for your attacks. Scary build though lol.... -WT

It has very reliable uptime since all epic holds got normalized to 24s base recharge. It's a nifty little trick to give you damage spikes during your rotation! 1 Mainly on Excelsior. And I didn't know that about holds, great info, thanks!
Warshades Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) Have you considered taking /psi mastery (assuming psi mastery has the same powers as it does for tanks, can't check mids atm) and maybe Hand Clap? I've recently respec'd my rad/ss tank into Hand Clap from a suggestion on the forum as I wasn't using Cross Punch much and was really happy with the results for the knockdown mitigation. It's an easy 4 slot proc power with force feedback, 2 dmg procs, and kb to kd. Between Foot Stomp, Psionic Tornado, and Hand Clap, you've got 3 AoE kd powers that will help with mob mitigation. Dominate is also a fantastic hold to proc out and will add to your ST rotation. I don't know what the results will be for a ss/regen brute since my rad tank is designed more as a walking AoE proc bomb nuker, but maybe worth considering if you're worried about mitigating incoming damage. Edit: Also apologies, didn't read carefully that you had Hand Clap before. You could sacrifice revive to either get Hand Clap or Fast Healing back. I'm personally never a fan of self revive powers as I try to build for not dieing in the first place 🙂 Edited November 9 by Warshades

I'm personally never a fan of self revive powers as I try to build for not dieing in the first place 🙂 I understand where you're coming from, and I do usually skip self rezzed on other armors. But due to the nature of Regen, I consider dying an inevitability! As for Psi Mastery, I opted to not take it simply due to Harmonic Mind (don't really need another recovery power) and Psi Tornado (slow) not being incredibly favorable picks for this type of play style. Fireball is an incredibly fast activation and deals more damage. Melt Armor increases my crowd clearing power by a good amount. Also, Cross Punch is an incredibly valuable choice as an SS due to it being great DPA and benefiting highly from Rage. I consider the cleaving nature of it a bonus! 1 Mainly on Excelsior. I consider the cleaving nature of it a bonus! Cross Punch is definitely worth taking, basically a better Haymaker that can take more procs. I just didn't need it for my Rad/SS pairing tank since I had 2 additional AoEs in Rad Therapy and GZ, only bosses normally survived a cycle of all my AoEs. 4 hours ago, Spaghetti Betty said: Fireball is an incredibly fast activation and deals more damage. Melt Armor increases my crowd clearing power by a good amount. Understandable, they're definitely super quick casts. SS attack chains are also a bit harder to predict because the FF +rech procs can really change cooldowns. I can take a look at it more in a bit, but one thing you could do is replace the +perception proc in Rage for the (iirc) Membrane HO (or whichever one boosts tohit and recharge). That can help with keeping Rage stacked for longer periods and the tohit buff you'll get from it for accuracy. The gaussian BU proc still fired off regularly for my tank.
Warshades Posted November 10 Posted November 10 So here's a very slight modification of some slots and powers that you had. I did move Hand Clap back into the build by replacing Revive (feel free to ignore that change) and I also moved the 2 set superior blistering cold to Brawl so that KO Blow could be fully proc'd out. Foot Stomp is now also fully proc'd as well. I haven't really tested the decimation BU proc in the epic hold as I like to fully damage proc. If you like it and feel that it procs often then you can definitely add it back to build and maybe move the unbreakable constraint back to KO Blow. I didn't see the point of keeping a 5 set hecatomb in Punch, the difference between that and a 2 piece winter set is minimal, as is the impact on recharge. The build still relies on FF procs to keep up perma Hasten and I used the slots for Hand Clap. This should provide you a bit more damage mitigation against mobs with Hand Clap in the build. Please ignore the levels that some power choices are at in the build. I had a different /regen brute build saved that I swapped to SS and played around with slots while comparing to your original build. Mostly just showing the final end result with sets/procs. Spaghetti Betty Posted November 13 Author Posted November 13 Ok, I'm back from a trip and I have time to review this! I want to touch on both of these, because your decision isn't wrong, but I also have reasons to not do it! I am making a lot of effort towards overcompensating on accuracy. This is because I have zero protection to -tohit, and I have to eat all debuffs as is. At the end of the day, it's a buffer, and not one that other armor choices would necessarily have to build up. This is also why Rage has to have the +Perception IO in it. It gives me just enough protection against Blind Though I have been Smoke Nade/Will Dom spammed by Arachnos plenty of times. There are a lot of dancing parts here that when working together add up to me not needing doublestacked Rage 100% of the time. And this is where I say having some extra procs and unslotters on hand is the most optimal if you plan on team buffs circumventing that! Also that little bit of F/C RES is nice! You absolutely should give this a try and I will not budge on it being a massive boon on any toon (almost all) that benefits from having an epic hold! I kind of view this situation similar to building defense on an armor set that has no DDR where there's basically no point in doing so. If you face mobs that deal defense down debuffs, that defense will still get tanked to below 0. Similarly, if you face enemies that spam a lot of -tohit, your accuracy will still get destroyed. I would say that going for a double stacked rage would also mostly compensate for the loss of accuracy slotting in powers as well and in situations where it doesn't, you'd likely face similar issues even with acc slotted in attacks. Still, everyone has their preferences in how to build and what to build for and I certainly can't fault wanting more accuracy. 1 hour ago, Spaghetti Betty said: This is also why Rage has to have the +Perception IO in it. I'll give this a go when I have a little bit of time to test it out on some of my tanks and brutes, thanks for the suggestion! Regen is definitely slept on by a lot of folks and it can absolutely be built to be tough for any content (though I won't say no to a refresh for it).
Project Posted November 13 Posted November 13 I really love your regen build! Cross-punch, really? 😮 I'm surprised, I see it more as a tax as the entire attack seems rather weak compared to everything in any damage set 😮

Marshal_General Posted November 28 Posted November 28 I have never actually played this character except to test it at 50 on the test server. Its regen/ice which I think gives regen a lot of tools to do its thing. I have no idea how it would level. I could always use advice on how to improve the regen part of it. Ice Regen 1- Brute (Ice Melee).mxd 4.94 kB · 2 downloads I think I may have posted an Ice/Regen somewhere before, but I forget. I made a clean one for you to look at. Brute (Ice Melee - Regeneration).mbd I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Ice Melee. Hitting certain damage thresholds can be really tough, but Ice Patch is one of the greatest defensive tools a Melee can get access to! As such, I went ahead and proc bombed everything anyways. You don't really need Melee DEF since Ice Patch is your defense. Just make sure to find tight corners and narrow spots to pull mobs to! This uses the same strategy my SS/Regen does for mitigation. Alternate using RoP+IH and Melee Core Embodiment to keep your RES and Regen at very healthy levels. Use MoG and Barrier as gating tools and Reconstruction for extreme dips. Cross Punch is there to help bandage the low global recharge, but there are also outside buffs you can acquire such as Time Lord, Increase Attack Speed, and Offense Amplifier for an extra +45% global recharge in total! (And Quick Reflexes for an extra +20% if you're ok with risking going monkey) Mainly on Excelsior. Find me in game @Spaghetti Betty.
