Might not be the smoothest thing to implement, but would it be worthwhile to switch up Noble Savage's handle? As far as problematic content in twenty year old franchises goes it's far from the worst offender out there, but it still feels like it could handle some polish, and I doubt James Noble would mind much since he's primarily concerned with the well-being of the Forlorn. (Maybe now that he's settled into Primal Earth and considering what cryptonym to register with he's realizing certain realities have different histories for certain terms, heh)

And no shade on the OG devs for using it or David Nakayama for claiming it, of course. Without the real world history, it'd be pretty sweet as far as names go.

Why should his name be changed? He calls himself that. Full on claimed it as his name.

If noble savage as reference to "a primitive person uncorrupted by civilization symbolizing the moral superiority of living with nature" is why you want his name changed, then kindly remember that he is not by any stretch of the imagination a primitive. He comes from an ultra-modern civilization where he was a police officer wielding sci-fi weapons/equipment and he has advanced technology built into his body. He isn't even linked with the Praetorian natural world in any way. So they aren't linked.

I get what you're saying, but it's a fictional world - the negative connotation associated with the word in the real world doesn't intersect with that in the fictional one. The creators of the character weren't applying that term to mean how you're applying it in a modern sense.

It would also start an impossible task for the Homecoming Team of ensuring all content becomes sensitive to not just modern terminology and sensitivity, but also cultural norms and customs accepted across the globe since this game can now be played by anyone, anywhere in the world, subject to the Terms of Service.

To make a comparison, what if the United States Library of Congress changed the content of their archives of films, books, and artwork for the sake of the modern audience? Gone With the Wind would not be in theaters today. To Kill a Mockingbird wouldn't be in schools and public libraries. And even some original Twilight Zone episodes wouldn't be broadcast on public television.

Bro, this is a single character's name in a niche MMO, not some historical piece of media. This comparison doesn't actually make any sense.

Characters always been a bit weird due to the racial connotations, but the intent of the developer was likely not that. It doesn't directly offend me, but i understand why it can for others. So if it gets changed, so be it' but theres about to be people who are suddenly going to pretend they give a shit what that dudes name is though, so goodluck.

It actually makes perfect sense - take a look at it's etymology. The word dates back nearly 2000 years, so I could have gone back farther and taken one of the historic works of oratory from the Romans to use as an example instead.

And, of course, the fact that it's already in use by an NPC and therefore you can't use it as a name for one of your characters has nothing to do with it?   😁

Out-of-context racial stereotypes make the best superhero names.
I think we should posthumously re-name Statesman to "White Savior".
From now on, Back Alley Brawler will be "The Magical Negro".
And Penelope Yin needs a proper superhero name, so how about "The Yellow Peril"?
