League I was in just had the bug and it cost us some badges.

Suggestion:  Once Tyrant is beaten and is going to shrink to normal size, the league gets hit with a time freeze so that we can't attack and risk defeating him before he shrinks down.  Once he shrinks the time freeze is gone and the league can smash tiny Tyrant.

Alternate suggestion: remove the shrink down. We beat him in giant mode and he either collapses or explodes and is defeated and trial ends.

Could they just flag Tyrant as untouchable while he's doing the whole "brought down to normal" thing?  Would seem like a simpler route to go...

That works too.

Agreed. How do you freeze time in a MMO anyway? Even the cut scenes aren't frozen, otherwise players wouldn't be able to interrupt Marauder.

(Edit: For clarification, I'm not talking about the emotes being done behind him, I mean the player comments during his cut scene.)

Time freeze exists in the Keyes trial.

I don't remember any time freezes in that trial. Just holds. If you were out of range of his "time freeze", you weren't held. It was basically a wide area PBAoE hold. It has been quite a while since I did it though.

I think the mechanics behind that particular "time freeze" is different than what you are looking to accomplish.  Beside the "untouchable" effect I mentioned earlier, another option would be to forcibly teleport all players to someplace away from Tyrant, so he can go through the shrinking back to regular size thing unimpeded...

The hold is called Time Freeze in Keyes

You are misunderstanding me and I don't want this to devolve into an argument. So I'll simply say there is no way to stop time in a MMO, the best you can do is an unresistable hold. That however runs up against both a radius and duration concern. Nothing in the game can freeze game time, not even cut scenes. So on that note, I will not be responding on this thread further.

Ignore the name of that particular power for a moment.  I think what @Rudra is trying to say is that "stopping time", in the colloquial sense, is NOT possible within the context of how MMOs, (or at least City of Heroes), works.  It's not that your suggestion is a bad one, only that it can't be implemented.  Now, you could try to institute an unresistable or otherwise extremely high-magnitude hold effect to lock down all characters, but that still runs the risk or accidentally missing some players if the radius wasn't set just right, or if someone had some sort of extremely high status protection - like imagine a league of 1 tank and the rest being empaths, who all cast clear mind on said tanker...

It's a really frustrating bug, and one of 2 big things I hope they fix with that trial. The instructions I give is that Tyrant needs to fall after the second round of lights appear to avoid the bug and we seem to avoid that glitch - even if we do end up taking him out a couple seconds early. There may be a story reason for the baby Tyrant phase, but I'd just as soon get rid of it entirely if that avoided the bug.

It's funny you mention this bug at this time. I was running a Triple Threat attempt the day before yesterday and we appeared to have got it, so I gave the warning I mentioned. Someone in the league chat said "I've never seen that happen, but I trust Oklahoman on this one."

At the very least, extend the timer post big Tyrant by 10 minutes (or more) so that if Tyrant bugs out, there's a better chance a GM can be called to fix the problem before the timer ends and the trial auto-fails.

Any player who doesn't care or want to wait can just quit the league.

I had 2 GMs respond once, immediately after it happened, and both said there was nothing they could do about it once the bug happens. What I took from that was it wouldn't matter if they'd had an additional 2 hour timer - once the bug happens, you're hosed.

I love/hate that trial. It's a fun little trial if you don't want to worry about badges. I mean, if the bug happens you don't get the rewards, which sucks, but at least it was only about 15 minutes long.

If you are going for Triple Threat, though, that bug can be really frustrating. Even if you do everything perfectly you can fail a Triple Threat because an AV will regen immediately after you give the kill order. Perhaps more commonly you'll see a player not control their damage ("Itchy Trigger Finger") and accidentally mess up a run. So when you manage to roll a natural 20 on that little dice roll and no one otherwise messes you up, you sure don't want this bug popping up in the final battle.
