Popped up in my FB memories this morning, reality is so very weird sometimes...

Popped up in my FB memories...  in 2016, I expected I'd never soar through the skies of Paragon City again.  But hoped to soon be playing in one of the CoX's spiritual successors.

In 2025, I'm once again soaring through the skies of the City, and (though one is close)...  Those successors have yet to launch.

[Apogee]

The Dance Gun was one of my favorite CoX videos and during the dark times I would often watch it to remind me of the good old days in the City.  One day in the Spring 0f 2019, I stopped at a grocery store on my way home from work.  Over the store's speakers, Korn's Word Up started playing and I started grooving down the aisles of the store thinking about the game and how I missed it.  When I got home later that day I checked the Task Force Hail Mary thread on the Titan forums (which I hadn't done in about a year) and there was a new thread (that started that day) unveiling the existence of the Secret Server.  That was the day everything changed for us.  The first server popped up, then shut down.  Finally Homecoming was started and here we are. 

 

I don't know how long it would have taken me to find the new servers if I hadn't heard "Word Up" that day.  It was very serendipitous that I was in that place, at that moment, to hear that song, to spark that memory, on the very day that the news broke.  Really, it just blows my mind.

Dance Gun or one of SamuraiKo's videos...

I can't recall where I heard of CoX's return.  Maybe a random news item on Twitter or on my browser on my tablet?  I avoided diving in because...  well, I thought it would vanish again and I just couldn't take that.  Then, two deaths in my family in short order (one of them my mom dying unexpectedly) and the City gave me just the escape I needed.

I'm more of a casual player nowadays (and I've always been something of a serial monogamist when it comes to games) and I come and go, but so long as the City is here and I can sit at my keyboard, I'll probably never entirely leave again.
