UltraAlt Posted yesterday at 04:43 PM Posted yesterday at 04:43 PM It is well past time to remove the "say" command from the game. It is too easily misused in macros by new players, and it gives no benefit as it is easy to change chat channels with 2 clicks. I don't think new player intentionally abuse it, but - from time-to-time - you see those "say" macros popping up in /help, /lfg or /broadcast. It is disruptive to other players. It is simple enough to put the player on ignore and more effort to send them a tell to explain to them what they are doing. Removing the "say" command really does seem to be the best option for dealing with this at this point. I think it was lack of forethought that added it as command option in the first place. 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
lemming Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM I like using the say command so that I don't have to switch between Team, League, or Request channels. It's annoying when it happens and mortifying when you do it, but I don't see it happening that often. (At least on Everlasting) 1 1
MTeague Posted yesterday at 06:34 PM Posted yesterday at 06:34 PM I don't think it needs to be removed. But neither would I miss it if it were gone. I do think it would be good if some macro / bind templates were more easily locateable by new players, but, at the end of the day you can't make people come to forums, and you can't make them read the wiki. 1 .
Vanden Posted yesterday at 08:43 PM Posted yesterday at 08:43 PM (edited) I like the /say command, it saves me keystrokes. When I want to help someone on a Global Chat channel with a slash command, I can just type "/say <whatever>", no need to type out a full /send for the name of the channel, or add filler words at the start, or add a caveat about putting a slash at the front at the end, just the exact text you need to put in the chat box to properly use a slash command. Plus, /say is used in the default bind for your character's battle cry, you can't just remove the command from players' use without coming up with some workaround to still be able to send your battle cry to any chat channel you want.
