I want to create the hero of them all Stan Lee. Problem is I'm stuck. I don't know what archetype or what abilities would go with the late great Stan Lee. I'm just stumped. I was thinking something in the tank archetype because he shouldn't be a glass cannon. What do you all think? Does anyone want to help me on this little project. I really want to pay tribute to a great man. And what better way then to create him fighting crime as a superhero. It would be something that he would have loved if he were still alive. So tell me your thoughts on it and maybe if anyone has a pines build they can come up with and post that would be fantastic. I'm not great with coming up with good builds. And I always get flustered when it comes to adding enhancements. Thank you all in advance. Let's keep his memory alive.

"Excelsior!"

I feel like he should be a defender or a mastermind, (it's too bad we don't have  a "superhero" primary for MMs  ^_^).  Perhaps an illusion controller could work - just customize the colors for phantom army so they look suitably heroic.  If going with the latter, "empathy" just feels like the correct secondary to take.  Maybe radiation, since he was big on radioactive spiders & cosmic rays...

Mastermind did cross my mind (pun intended). Would mastermind work as a solo build?

Masterminds are very easy to solo with.  Just familiarize yourself with a few key binds/commands, and you're all set.  Oh, and if you're going that route, definitely pick up assault & tactics from the leadership pool.

What do you think about Willpower? I like the fact of Setting up toggles and then forgetting about them.

I've only dabbled with the willpower armor set, if that's what you mean.  It's an interesting mix of resistance and defense, but has some really nice utility powers in the set.  What would you pick for the attack set?  Super strength seems like an obvious choice...

I don't recall if sentinels get access to willpower, but that could be another option.

Yes Sentinels do get Willpower as a secondary. As for the primary I'm torn between Psychic Blast, Radiation Blast, or Sonic Attack. I haven't really messed around with any of them.

Not sure how you got to Sentinel to represent Stan Lee...but regardless, if you are doing Stan, and only choosing between those 3 powersets, I'd go with Radiation Blast, since that's what fuel most of his silver age heroes...Fantastic Four & Hulk through radiation directly, X-men due to mutation's caused by parent's exposure to radiation, Spider Man due to radioactive spider, etc...

I don't care for psychic blast - I don't know if it's the sound it makes or just the way the attacks are animated, but I just couldn't get into it.  Sonic attacks are quite good, and the extra -res, plus some very good utility powers later on, make for a very effective set.  Radiation blast can be very good as well, though I'm not a fan of the PBAoE in the set, (though as a sentinel, you'd be in a lot better state to take full advantage of it).

I'm mainly thinking of the willpower aspect. I like the whole set it and forget it idea.

Right...I'm just not sure how that ties into Stan Lee...I mean, do what you want, it's your build...I'm just not in sync with how you go to where you are at, when initially it was about Stan the Man...

You are right. I'm sorry. I just don't like being a glass cannon lol.

Here here!  That's kind of why I was leaning toward an illusion/radiation controller - the illusion part represents the heroes he can summon and the flash-whizbang aspect of being creative and involved with various media/fictions, while the radiation portion was a big inspiration behind several notable characters...

There's no need to be sorry - While I agree that a sentinel doesn't immediately spring to mind when I think of Stan Lee, you can definitely tap into your creative side and come up with a good reason why - maybe take energy blast and have them represent the sheer force of his Stan Lee's imagination, made manifest...

Here's an illusion/radiation controller build I quickly came up with on pine's. Let me know what you all think?

I'm not at a computer where I can install the character planner ATM, but generally speaking, you can skip the 2 invisibility powers in illusion, and possibly fallout in radiation.  Other than that, hasten really helps keep your phantom army up as often as possible.  If you plan on doing a lot of soloing, then keep in mind that illusion may be a bit tougher to keep containment on enemies, (particularly bosses), since it lacks the mag 4 immobilize that many other control sets have.  Still, you wouldn't need to tap into sorcery or another pool for a dedicated attack, since you have spectral wounds, (just slot your single target hold for acc & recharge, and spectral wounds for acc & damage so you kill enemies quickly and avoid the health recovery they eventually get from it).

Stan's a guy without superpowers right, so why not give him a suit like Tony Stark so he isn't too squishy and give him any powers (which could be fired from a suit? )after that....

a Robotics mastermind was the first thing that came to mind TBH, maybe with empathy, thermal or radiation.

This is COH, there's just so many ways you can go with this, that's why we love it!

I would make one of his costumes the Watcher since the running gag in the movies was he might be one of them.

I too wish there was a superhero mastermind that would’ve been perfect with Darkness changing the colors to be colorful so it would be like he was painting to protect his heroes.

To create Stan you have to first decide how you are handling the whole project. Everything will flow from that

are you trying to stay closer to reality? Impossible but you can take a nod at it with a MM build.

are you just using his image and then portraying what a strong beacon he was to the geek community?  Willpower super strength tank i/o build would be a fitting tribute

going sideways and making him a kheld?  You get the human form and a neat transform that maybe you can have some RP fun with

so the first step will be settling into how you want the tribute to feel and what you plan to do with it
