Fire/Ice Blaster Build Help

My main back on the live game was a Fire/Ice Blaster. I've recently gotten one back to 50, and I'm trying to put together a nice all-around build for him - a mix of soloing, badging, TFs/trials, etc. My aim was for recharge, defense, and damage. I'm not the best at putting together builds, but this is what I came up with. Would love some advice on how I can improve, any red flags, etc.

On my phone otherwise I'd just share a build I've been running. He's soft capped ranged def and 12 seconds from perma hasten. Plays really well against most mobs. Also solo'd some avs, haven't tried many as this wasnt my intention with the build. If you want I'll share build when i get to my comp. Otherwise without the designer code im not sure about your builds bonus'.

You've five-slotted a lot of powers with purple sets. The trick for five-slotting purples is that you always want to skip the pure Damage IO (pure Immobilize in the case of your Gravitational Anchor set), and then +5 one of the other IOs in the set, like the Damage/Recharge (or Immobilize/Recharge). That lets you still hit the ED cap for damage, and in your case, make room for the purple procs. You're also over the 5-duplicate limit for Ultimate Recharge Bonuses with the Superior Defiant Barrage you have slotted; you might drop those Gravitational Anchors from Chilblain for something else.

 

Speaking of Defiant Barrage, you may want to move it to another power. I also thought it would be best to put it in a T1 or T2 power, so if I got mezzed I could try to build up enough mez protection from the proc to get free, but I found that at high levels with lots of recharge I rarely actually used the T1 and T2 powers except when I was mezzed. So I moved Defiant Barrage to another attack I use more regularly, to try to build stacks of mez protection from normal play and hopefully not get mezzed in the first place, and it seems to work better.

 

From how you slotted Frigid Protection, I'm guessing you're trying to maximize endurance recovery. You're going to get more endurance from putting in two 50 end mod IOs than the Performance Shifter Proc and the Miracle unique, even with that Miracle set bonus. The link in my signature has more detailed information on that, if you're interested.

 

I see you took Shiver, but no Rain of Fire? Shiver+Rain of Fire is one of the best synergies a Fire/Ice Blaster has. I'm not sure what you would be willing to drop to pick up Rain of Fire (Ice Sword, perhaps? You could swap the Hecatombs for Superior Blaster's Wraths, and get the same Accuracy and Recharge set bonuses), but you could potentially drop Shiver and pick up Freezing Touch if you don't want Rain of Fire. The Lockdown hold set will give you slightly better ranged defense than the Pacing of the Turtle you have in Shiver, plus some AoE defense too. Up to you, of course.

 

Lastly, I see a few spots where you could save some slots. Drop a slot from Hasten and +5 the two Recharge IOs in it and you'll still be at the ED cap for recharge. This build has a ton of Accuracy set bonuses, so you probably don't need the Kismet unique. You also probably don't need 2 KB protection IOs unless you're planning to spend a lot of time in melee. As for what to do with those slots, the Steadfast Protection unique would go nice in Tough, the Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control unique would be great in Build Up, and the Preventive Medicine unique would good for Health.

I also have a +stealth in sprint that isn't listed in there. SS + +steath IO gives a good invis.

I also believe I switched inferno and fire breath IO sets as inferno does enough dmg without the proc and Ive been running 50 content with clarion. If exemplar enough  I may keep as posted here.

I'd put Panacea in health as Frigid protection offers a much better absorb but 0 regeneration. Panacea + frigid = rounded out. IMO.

My build works best by either a) do as blaster do and nuke em at the start, b) run through mob with frigid protection and spam fireball and or fire breath while jump my way behind a barrier be it a wall, box, truck, whatever's near by and place ice patch, then continue to aoe as they come around onto the patch or c) start with web envelop + RoF + fire ball + fire breath. Cast Web then RoF then build up or aim, if needed jump into mob and place an ice patch next to the targets that are already immobilized by the web to catch more targets in a smaller area to continuing burning down.

Pine's is showing 43.4 ranged def. Its with ++ the sets I got the extra piddle 1.4% (.43 to be exact) to be at 44.83% ranged,
