Dark/Dark/Souls Build Advice

Hey all.  My first 50 on Homecoming is my Dark/Dark controller but I have very little experience with slotting powers.  I've cobbled together a build looking at others and a few slotting guides, but I was hoping someone might give it a glance over in case there are any obvious flaws with it that could be fixed.  Any help is appreciated!

Here's what I run now. Total lockdown and safety in most +4/+8 missions. My EPP is Ice and is not min/max appropriate...it's thematic. But even with a crappy Ice pool the build rocks.

I don't really use it at all to be honest. Early levels it's a good distraction if you're solo but late game, if you're slotted then you don't need it.

 

Living shadows I have tried both ways...all Cloud Sense and all Dmg. When I saw that the To Hit Debuff of Living Shadows base was 7.5%...6 slotted with Cloud Sense it's 10.8%. Is it even noticeable with all the To Hit Debuffs you're throwing around? I say nay! So I tried it slotting for Damage. Base Damage is something like 11.93 whereas 6 slotted with Dmg sets is closer to 25. So Double. 

 

So to me, seeing the double dmg is easier for me to quantify than a 3% increase in To Hit Debuff. Especially when Fearsome Stare To Hit Debuff is double Living Shadows at 15%. 

 

So when you lead off with FS, then LS, Tar Patch and HoD….that mob isn't hitting anyone for a long time and isn't going anywhere for a long time. Any Bosses get the DN treatment for another 15% To Hit Debuff in a large radius. Then factor in SF and Fade for huge Def bonus and SA for another 10% To Hit Debuff…

 

Basically sitting inside a mob of 54s is like sleeping on a cloud 😉

Thanks for the feedback, made a few adjustments to my build that keeps me with perma-hasten and almost perma Seer as well.

I'm putting together a Solo Build for my 32 Dark/Storm. I was planning on /Ice because of the cone and rain, which look to me like some pretty decent attacks.  I've got Storm down to a 29 second recharge with Mids showing me 417 damage and Breath is at a 10 second recharge with 152 damage, 52 range.

 

These together debuff recharge 30% out of the box and I have them proc'd for -resist. Toss in Rain for another -30 resist (plus proc) and snowstorm with -62 rechage. So without using a primary power yet you're in the 50-60ish resist debuff, 90ish recharge debuff and the Epics have already done a pocketful of damage.  Finish locking down with primary and cone should be pretty easy to fit back in, stacking with constant rains.

 

I don't know, by the numbers it seems like Ice is pretty damn good with Dark...but I'm happy to be informed. I've only ever used Earth.

It's not that it's no good....just that most people choose others that boost other powers. Like Primal Forces gets Power Boost that doubles the effectiveness of Fade and things like that. Soul mastery gets Dark Embrace which increases your Resistance. Mace gives you the Scorpion Shield. Psi gives you the Mez protection. 

 

Ice isn't "bad" but a min/max player wouldn't choose it.

 

I am not a min/max player like that so Ice works for me. But if I were putting my build out for critique...that would be one of the things people would say to change 😉

Going to burst this build, but you cant have Soul Mastery, your limited to Stone Mastery, Fire Master, Ice Mastery, Primal Forces and Psionic Mastery.

With Containment, you go from about 24 to 48 damage... so if you use 3 slots for damage, that's about 8 points increased per IO. However, because it has a smaller Area Factor than most AoE Immobs for Controllers, it gains 14 points of damage per damage proc, and it doesn't need Containment for that (without containment, you're getting half the damage from the damage IOs, but still full damage from the procs).

 

If you're chasing set bonuses it's a different story, but personally I use about 3 slots for enhancement slotting, then 1 ATO Energy Orb and 2 damage procs. Putting Siphon Insight in there is also a good option, since it only has to activate on one target to get you the full bonus, but at high levels a lot of characters don't need to worry about accuracy boosts.

Um, you can have Soul mastery, I know because I have it.  You just need to do one of the redside patron powers arcs.

Also, you might like investing in Primal Forces Mastery rather than other sets anyway. Being able to double the effect of Fade and other non-damage powers at will is outstanding, and you can slot out Energy Torrent to turn it into a decent attack which also chain-KDs enemies and has a chance to boost your recharge further. I’d honestly prefer that over a Seer, particularly on a Dark/Dark controller that already has so many pets baked in.

Ice isn't "bad" but a min/max player wouldn't choose it.

 

I am not a min/max player like that so Ice works for me. But if I were putting my build out for critique...that would be one of the things people would say to change 😉

 

 

 

Resistance on a controller is less needed than defense and defense stacks nicely for what Dark does. Mez protection can come from being Incarnate, and to be honest, I don't get mezzed much. With "2.5" pets already and one coming from Incarnates, I don't see so much benefit from adding another. I concede Power Boost is awesome, but I can't really complain about any of the Ice powers and two AoE attacks is mighty nice for a build lacking in firepower compared to others. I debated Psi and Ice. I might change, but I got to 50 last night and need to go back and fill in my slots. From what I got playing it last night, I'll be more than happy in the end. FYI, I started at 46 last night so I had some of the ice powers already.

Yeah I'm keeping Ice. I like it a lot. My troller is quite safe in 54 content...always in the middle of the mobs debuffing to make sure people don't get hit 😉 The only deaths occur when some one goes off by himself. Then they realize it was safer around group. I may try to figure out a way to slot up Ice Storm more in order to try some Procs.
