Quixotic Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Hey guys! Back in the day I was a hardcore Corr main, and fondly remember Silas'(?) comprehensive guide on all things Corr that really helped me out when I was learning. I've recently returned to the game (and a HUGE thank you to the people that made it possible! :) ), but was kinda surprised to see lots of people asking for all kinds of build advice when I just assumed the whole playerbase would consist of wizened old vets at this point. So my question is, would there be interest if I wrote up a guide on all things Corr? Going over the pros and cons of the various powersets etc.
Dungeoness Eloora Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I think any and all well-written and informative guides will be well received by the community. There's a metric ton of information to learn and remember about many aspects of this game! It's also helpful understand what might be different between the last time most people played (likely 10+ years) and now. Also, Silas' very handy and often hilarious guide to Corruptor support is still worth a shoutout, and a read! Find it here. @dungeoness and @eloora on Excelsior <Federation of United Cosmic Knights>
ParaBruce Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Quixotic, I would love such a thing. I have a fair amount of defender experience, but zilch with corruptors, and would very strongly welcome clues.
Neofuguist Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 I would also appreciate such a guide. I believe I made a Beam Rifle/Force Field toon last night . . . though when I look at Paragon Wiki it isn't listed as a Corruptor Secondary. Either I was overtired and was actually playing a Defender, or this is something newish(?). Either way my BR/FF toon is a lot of fun :-D
Adeon Hawkwood Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 I believe I made a Beam Rifle/Force Field toon last night . . . though when I look at Paragon Wiki it isn't listed as a Corruptor Secondary. The homecoming team propagated most powersets to all available classes so there are quite a few combos that are available on the servers that aren't listed on the Wiki. This includes some combos that the original devs didn't want to do for thematic and/or balance reasons. Defender Smash!

For a retro space-faring science hero trapped between worlds Beam Rifle and Force Fields make total sense :-D
Quixotic Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 Oh amazing, his guide was saved! I was a little afraid that so much of the info on the CoH boards have been lost since. :) Seems like there's a lot of positive response on this, so maybe I will get to work on this during our server downtimes haha.
CorvusBC Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I’m certainly interested in some info on the newer sets, I’d mostly been out of the game the last few years before the shutdown.
rizlazz Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 absolutely, we need to get back to the old format of why a thing is a thing instead of just builds. I mean, they are great and all but the dialog of how someone was thinking made it a lot easier to a) see if the guide was going to be useful (and then read it anyway for potential synergy with your own play-style) and b) (because im one of the aforementioned grizzled old vets) much more enjoyable to read because of ... things...
Quixotic Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 An excellent point rizlazz. I've always been a fan of guides that walked you through the theory and helped you be able to reach your own conclusions on what and why you can consider X to be "good". Teach a man how to fish etc. :)
Marshal_General Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I have a question that I need answered. I am looking at changing my DP/MC blaster to corrupter and was looking for a good secondary. I played around with force field and after picking the powers I wanted I looked at the totals. This is with nothing slotted other than one IO end. | Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;912;413;826;HEX;| |78DA65D3EF4AC2501400F06B4EC454D4C4CC4C2C61665943A9EF41DA22D018BDC01| |83A6D309CEC0FD5C7DEA017A8DEA0E7A877C92CE8FB3A9E1DD4BC978DDDFB3BE79E| |7BF7AF7BDF4EBC5D3E9EB150AA656A8EA3B62CDBF6C6AE6547AF35D7B33593CD5A1| |4CED23CA4DE68A3A1DE97DA9E66AA8AE1B896E96C2FA2E7DE6020C996DDD355D9D0| |CD3E8B2B96654AB2690C6FDD04F63BBA363646C3240EBA7ADFE819233D18C9B32C8| |86D5C8C8D9EA45877BAAD7635C7D5ED872DD8451D4E31CDA8F97040639F55188448| |F6E0D21458354D0416C2AC38DC4698248CB20F391192084A0D241A54F237213F465| |56354F500E2719A11C71925C84A922451CA20299214CA1A48862483F2033BCE52ED| |2CD50E43568E2C472680E5C9F26475D84381AA15B0DA114891A4883281FA259212C| |A31E49449CA28EFF0302A2415945F9825D26A22ADF6015935B21AD9B41ABC8999D5| |71E693C8984422A1ECC2CE1B240D941D61F5BD1D72D2E0A4C9C90927A79C5C2DC4E| |F70514558FD3662E9F9B7E14FD6211A5A8E4E39F9E2E49B13FF7F7BCE043FD26C89| |97A5FEEB52FF0F474F01EE| |-------------------------------------------------------------------| Is the builder right? This is a bit insane for def and resist from no slots.
Quixotic Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 Hey Marshal, that's because you have Personal Forcefield toggled on in the builder. It skyrockets your defense but at the expense of only being able to take actions on your own character, basically like a panic button.
bockchow Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Ya, I was really looking for up to date guides on an archetype as a whole. Strengths and weaknesses of each set. Ways you can improve on those strengths and offset the weakness. What content or application they are best suited to. As well as primary/secondary combos. What ones work best and worst and why.
