  1. Just so you guys know, the code they're using is what happened to be on the main Test Server when the game was cancelleld i24 beta), with the work finished by 3rd parties in the years since (our i25). The other language versions are probably 100% lost and would have to be retranslated from scratch so perhaps a different group will take that on.
  2. Nice find, Wtl. I'm quoting from memory an additional comment or two she dropped on the official forums in addition to that dev diary. Similarly later on she suddenly piped up one day and said she'd nuked a bunch of the really pain-in-the-ass to get to doors in Perez park. Her husband had been playing City with friends and she heard all their complaints over voice chat about mission doors that were crazy hard to get to both from the labyrinth design and the mob placement and thought, "ok that's it, we're done with those real nasty doors."
  3. Ok getting back to the top of the question, I went to do some testings on base access but actually ... when I went to do the settings myself, the permission specifically states allow guests into the base when you are the LEADER of the team. So it's actually working correctly; I didn't remember it working that way. I thought it was any teammate of a team I'm on. What may be confusing both Zombie Man and myself is advanced old age is having a lot of memories of teaming with people in supergroups we were in coalitions with. Those people had free access all the time and in my extended play circle everyone coalitioned to make sure every small group had all the resources they needed.
  4. YOU GUYS. We are so dumb. There is a new base style for ceiling called OPEN SKY. It's only available on the highest ceiling level. Quickie shrunk screenshot to illustrate... that's an orrery on the ceiling and then I changed the sky above.
  5. When War Witch edited the Hollows, she pulled out the official documentation on how hazard zones were supposed to be constructed and balanced, looked at Hollows 1.0 and declared it to be FAR in excess of the standard. Far. So I am grateful she turned it from a deathtrap to a good zone for grouping.
  6. Happy to help! It took me making 8 characters before I realized what I was doing wrong too! I love this game but holy shit I have serious complaints about some of the UI elements it does in a nonstandard way now that I'm looking at it with fresh eyes. This is absolutely not our fault the commands are essentially buried above our eyeline.
  7. Yeah I've seen that too. I just ignored it because it didn't seem too much of a problem. Btw the link above is clipping the final ) off the URL, breaking it.
  8. I'm going to mince my words here because I don't want to share too many of my own concepts, but Once Upon A Time I founded a Lovecraftian themed supergroup, and it was a huge hit amongst my friends. What we did was craft characters who were all extended cousins in a big extended family full of weird mad science and cultists. Think of the Whatelys plus some Innsmouth folks plus some people with Tenure at Miskatonic who really should not have, mix in some Addamms family and set to coagulate. When you say your theme is anything touching on mad science, alien gods, corruption and mutation, all iced with a dose of New England Gothic, then the lid really blows up. Especially with the addition of customizing power sets' appearance to put a dark and malevolent tweak on something innocuous, you can probably be Lovecraftian with almost any power set. (For example, color water powers red and make it blood sorcery!) Basically, one of the typical things people did was Look Human, Mostly. In some cases people had a monster or mutated form as one of their costumes and used the normal look as the base form. Darkness and Radiation power sets were particularly popular but people did lots of creative variations. So my suggestion is to start with the character concept, and then pick some powers that seem like they can grow out of that concept. Now that ATs are side-flexible it will be even easier to do this. Good luck, and Bad Science!
  9. Did you get the level? That's the important thing. But seriously has anyone else tested this? Is it a ZMan problem or are all the permitted bases only allowing owner lead teams to enter? If no one has had the chance I'll recruit a team in atlas and just test it real quick when I get home. Heck I can troll for compliments on the layout while they're in there.
  10. Discord also has voice channels. It's like IRC + Ventrillo combined into one.
  11. I usually get stuck when I go into base edit most times, but if you double-click any square of the base you should teleport there and be unstuck.
  12. I don't think you read the post well, Impish Kat. Zombie Man said "I set up my Supergroup permissions so that teammates can enter my base. However, they can only do so if I'm the team leader. " He already has set permissions, they're not working normally. I haven't actually teamed with anyone since I got a base up and running. I searched in the 84 page patch notes for anything about a base access code and there's nothing in there. This may be something that's Not Working As Intended.
  13. Not so far as I've been able to figure out yet. I've been doing small practice builds to get used to the new item options and just started on my first real serious attempt at a base last night. Especially now that the servers are a bit smoother and I've taken in some of the new limits I think I'm coming back up to speed. For instance teleporters. They can now have 10 beacons attached to them, which in theory sounds nice but in practice is maybe too many things in one place hero side. I can see a newbie builder villain side who just slaps all the CoV zones on a wall and puts 1 teleporter in front of it. But for me I want to split them out in reasonable level ranges. So I put 4 instead of the classic 2 on each of my porters, and that's enough room to see the beacons on the wall. (For instance Atlas, King's, Perez, and the Hollows are on one pad.) Also, I'm using orange bagel portals instead of magic bird cages; why not?? There's a lot of new display items... it cracks me up there's an entire section for bathrooms now, not that you can create a working door INTO a bathroom. It's a pity that the original devs didn't have the resources to do 1 or 2 more base styles. There's a nice starting selection there but they all read "lair" pretty hard. I'd have loved it if they had come up with a wood paneling/plain wall design for creating effects like the base is inside a house instead of a sewer. (For concepts like Family run office building, a haunted house, a barn, etc.) I know people have gotten really creative with mixing the style pieces and tinting them I honestly think wood paneling or Victorian paneling would do a lot. I noticed there's also a search which is pretty nice once you know that something must be in there somewhere.
  14. You can alignment change through the traditional system of getting tips and running alignment missions. The cap has even been removed. There is also an alignment changer in Pocket D called Lenny the Gull or something like that. Someone said they rolled a Widow (which IS mandatory to generate villain side) and walked in to Pocket D at level 2 and became a hero and then went and leveled in Atlas park. As far as I know, patron power pools must be unlocked by being on red side and doing the story mission for at least 1 of the main leaders of Arachnos.
  15. I figured this one out! So that's the wrong command. The "options" are things like profanity filter on or off (but apparently not windowscale 120% grrrrr). The keybinds are a separate save/load. When you're on the keybinds window the options save/load dialog is at the very bottom, but at the TOP there's another save/load button area and that's for your keybinds.
  16. As I recall it, there didn't used to be a default tray so maybe they're giving you a preset one. When I played them,we had to make our own trays up and write macros. Typically you'd have a form change macro that swapped in like tray 8 or whatever where you put your nova attacks and also 2 buttons were macros for going to human or tank form. When applicable we'd maybe have a hover turned on along with the swap to keep things smooth.
  17. I've been doing a lot of build planning lately and over and over again it's shocking me how easy it is to get everything I want. I previously stopped playing just as I18 hit due to computer problems, so I was not able to enjoy the benefit of inherent Fitness pool. When I came to this version and found out about the pool changes and that travel powers were available at 4 I just about flipped. (And epic pools at 35!! WOW!) But it didn't really all sink in until I sat down with a planner ready to try to find some things to skip to make room in the build and found I didn't need to. In ye olden days if you took swift or hurdle, health, stamina, a travel pre-req, and your real travel power that was 5 slots eaten up. Now you can skip all of them if you're satisfied with Ninja Run/Beast Run boosted by hurdle AND swift together (so far I am mostly) or just 1 slot if you want a regular travel power. Want to jam in Hasten? No prob. In fact what I've noticed is if I open up a planner and pick all the higher level powers I want at their minimum level, and then pick the most essential starting powers, all I really need to worry about is what order do I pick the 6-18 level range powers. Literally if you take every power in your primary and secondary you will still have 2 levels (24 and 30) you MUST take pool powers at if you haven't already, and that leaves you with 4 slots for the epic pools. In fact, if you want to take all powers out of the epic pool it's possible, but you will have to give up on either your 35 or 38 secondary power to do it. Of course if you want to load up on pool powers you'll have to make some sacrifices, and now that they have 5 powers I think it will be interesting what builds people have that still dip into pools heavily. I am really excited by this flexibility.
  18. Absolutely stop and fork over the graphics cards for the models before you think about buying them. A modern day desktop graphic card crushes what City needs but integrated cards, as far as I know, have not really improved much over the years beyond being powerful enough to handle 2 modern size monitors. If anyone has tried City on a modern integrated setup it would be extremely helpful to know!
  19. I did see the notes but wow so much to take in. I was fiddling with placing a sky last night and I still can't figure out what's going on with that. I put a sky in a room and the room's lighting got a little different but only when I was right by the item - at the edge of the room no effect at all. The sky above the base if I put the camera up there did change dramatically. If anyone figures this out, please do chime in here with some screen shots!
  20. I just want to say I had the exact same problem so you're not alone overlooking that tiny dot of a close button! I actually task-killed the game after applying my changes to get them to stick, and then saw the tiny close button when I was making an adjustment to my settings days later. It's tiny, it's in a nonstandard place for closing windows, and usually windows like this will have a "done now" button to close them. So it's a nonstandard UI situation.
  21. I've played a lot of D/D defenders and various controllers so I too immediately rolled one of these when the servers came up. Unfortunately he's on Torchbearer and I think I'm going to have to start over on another server so I'm not as far along as I was hoping. I do think you are off on a couple points, but not hugely. The cone immobilize in this set (Living Shadows) is a little different. As you said it's a narrow cone so it's not great for a generic big group lock down. Other control sets more typically would be stacking a circular stun and a circular immobilize and this one is more surgical. What you want to use it for is to keep foes from running out of tar patch or running away with the anchor of darkest night. For that matter, you didn't seem too impressed with the single target immobilize Shadowy Binds, but aside from soloing damage it's definitely something to have handy to keep an anchor running away. I want my single target hold for a boss or special threat like a Tsoo Sorcerer, I want a 2nd tool to keep a 2nd threat or anchor from running away. Notably, the controller single target hold and immobilize in every set has 90% accuracy instead of the typical 75%, and the immobilize is mag 4! The AoE immobilize is mag 3, which means that the single target can normally pin a boss down if they don't have special resistance but the AoE can't. Posses is amazing solo, not to mention the graphical effect is so cool. You literally turn the affected mob into a dark shadowy being temporarily. A lot of people don't care much for confuses but I love them, but obviously this is just a playstyle thing. Now interesting quirk of the combo of dark/dark. There are actually 2 AoE stuns in this combination. Heart of Darkness... and Howling Twilight. I was just singing HT's praises in a controller post so I'll try to not repeat too much here. Howling Twilight can be used offensively. Completely aside from the rez, it has the same -500% regen penalty Lingering Radiation does, with the same 30 second duration but a longer recharge. But it also packs a 15 second mag 2 stun and mag 3 fear (the runaway kind - so using tentacles may be needed; it has a run speed debuff built in too though) and it's auto-hit. This means you can reliably daze a bunch of minions with it. Heart of Darkness, as a standard controller AoE stun, has 60% base accuracy, is mag 3 for 18 seconds, and has the typical chance to crit for +1 mag for another 14 seconds. So obviously, these powers can stack. If you hit something that's resistant to stun, or the inherent lower accuracy has Heart of Darkness miss, dropping Howling Twilight on top may overcome those problems. Or if you just need a second tool for a pack of dangerous minions like exploding Vahzilok, there you go. And as I mentioned it does have 500% -regen which you can augment further with the -50% regen in Twilight Grasp. I can't really comment on the higher Darkness control powers yet since I'm not there. But from my defender experience I'm pretty excited to use this modified version of dark miasma on a controller. I want to sing the praises a bit more of Darkest Night. This one of those high endurance cost toggles that turns foes into kittens. It was one of those powers that tended to be so expensive you couldn't use it well at low levels in the past, but now that we have Stamina at level 2 it's totally usable! To give people an idea of how effective this is, my character was soloing a Skulls storyline (painfully since they're dark resistance) and out pops Elite Boss Chernobog who promptly kills me despite my best effort to confuse his minions and hold him. But I had gained a level so while coming back from the hospital I trained up and I took Darkest Night. (I think I hit level 8 or 10 at this point.) Well ... I kicked his ass. Handily. I put Darkest Night on him and suddenly the big bad elite boss and his purple triangles was whiffing almost every hit and when he did land a blow it was well within what Twilight Grasp could heal back. From there it was just a matter of spamming all my single target stuff on him plus sands of mu and I won without much more than a scratch. Oh and important note: a QoL change in this issue has made it so when anchor mobs die, the debuff lingers on their corpse until it despawns. So no longer do we have to worry about an anchor being killed! I'd also say you're underrating Shadow Fall a bit. Of course you want to mez things in the first place but Shadow Fall is really nice for getting closer to mobs and dropping those holds even though it's a partial stealth without superspeed. I think it's enough. It does have psi, energy, negative energy, and fear resist and a pretty good chunk of defense so it's nice to have it up in case you come around a corner and walk into a nasty. (It's even nastier for defenders because you can snipe with Moonbeam from within shadow fall at maximum range and well, get away with it.) Generally I think it'll be helpful for getting into position without trouble.
  22. Mids display is not clear, the 15 seconds only applies to the mezzes. The regeneration and movement debuffd are a full 30 seconds. I used to lead a dark dark defender themed supergroup and we were very used to turning arch villains into squishy piles of goo by chaining howling twilight onto them.
  23. Meanwhile, as Accelerate Metabolism was climbing into the ring to go up against Kinetics, Dark Miasma had opened up Mids and was standing there, unseen, waiting to shank Radiation Emission. It's worth keeping in mind that Lingering Radiation and Howling Twilight share the exact same -regeneration value (-500%), though Lingering Radiation recharges in half the time. Lingering Radiation also has a to-hit roll, and also slows both power recharge (-75%) and movement and jumping. In comparison Howling Twilight merely autohits up to 16 foes in an AoE, only applies a -62.5% recharge and movement speed penalty and those debuffs match Lingering Radiation's duration of 30 seconds. However, it also applies a 15 second mag 2 stun and a 15 second mag 3 fear (the flee kind not the cower kind I think), and deals approximately 12 points of darkness damage JUST for the insult. Oh and simultaneously resurrects everyone friendly in the area around the caster to full health and stamina. It's a little over powered. The % of your health at resurrection used to scale on the number of foes hit and it kept group rezzing people like they used a small inspiration and then getting killed so the devs gave up and just let it do a full rez on the entire party with even 1 minion targeted. In fact, famously, when people were testing the new version of the Hamidon raid someone cast Howling Twilight on a Trick Arrow defender's unlit OIL SLICK and used it as an anchor to rez the entire wiped raid. It made a dev pop out of invisible mode to yell holy shit at the player base. But the point remains it's one of those problem powers that got buffed to the point of being overly effective and people still just think "oh it's an AoE rez." Also the Dark's control powers are ... I think you're underrating them let's put it at that. :) It's also worth keeping mind that the Corrupter and Mastermind versions of Dark Miasma and the Controller version from Dark Affinity have the exact same regen debuff, movement speed debuff, stun, and fear. If Mids for i23 is still accurate the controller and corrupter versions actually have a bigger area of effect as well.
  24. I actually think posting builds with IOs in them at this point is pretty silly if they're presented as a guide. If someone is just theorycrafting what they'd like to get that's fine but I wouldn't give actual advice that revolves around getting set IOs. Considering the very new state of our servers it would probably be more helpful to keep in mind that genuine new characters often don't have enough money for full SOs until they are in their 30s. It's really only once you get to 50 or so and you make a bankroll for all your characters that SOs start to be regularly available. My advice for people asking on the help channel for slotting is "get accuracy for your main attacks, endurance enhancements for stamina, and then see what you can afford." If you can craft basic IOs at level 25 that's actually a really good thing because they're equivalent to SOs at that point and won't expire. By equivalent I mean the enhancement value of the most common types is 32% vs even level SOs at 33 and -1 SOs at 30. Level 38 IOs (level 40 generics) are 38%, equivalent to +3 green SOs. So if you start making level 25+ IOs at level 22 you will be making a sound investment in enhancements you never have to replace from general leveling, though you may want to tweak them once you hit 50. (Level 50 IOs are stronger than SOs, and are the most common categories like accuracy and damage will have a value of 42.4%, meaning anything you could stand to 2 1/2 slot can be handled by 2 generic level 50 IOs. Stamina is a great example of something where 2 level 50s is probably good enough unless you have a really edge build.) The other benefit of using level 25+ IOs consistently is that you can sell most or all the SOs you get as drops to start building your bankroll.
  25. No, Blind is Illusion's single target hold. It's super duper weird though because it also has a tiny AoE sleep layered on top of it. Basically if three Hellions try to come through a doorway at once and you target the one in the center, there's a good chance one of the other dudes will get slept too. (The description calls it a secondary hold that breaks easily but the mechanic uses is actually a sleep.) Root refers to immobilize, they almost all also have some amount of -fly -knock that roots them to the ground.
