  1. If math can't tell the story, it won't work on a computer.  If you were living a 'random' amount of time, you wouldn't be an effective tanker.

     

    Numbers larger than twenty-four are witchcraft.  Nobody I know has that many fingers and toes.

Tanking isn't taking damage, tanking is controlling aggro.  Without proper aggro management tools (Gauntlet, Auto-hit taunt, Aura taunt), all you will do is take an alpha strike and then watch all the mobs go after everyone else in the team who interacts with them.  You can get a modest taunt (provoke) from power pools but that will still not come anywhere close to a tank or brute with more robust tools, or a select few scrapper builds that include strong taunt auras and aggro management tools.

     

    Take damage / Survive?  Yep, Sentinels can do that.  Tank?  Not really, unless you're fighting small spawns at medium difficulty in a less than full team.

     

    No.  Actually Tanking is soft combat-control.

    Either by controlling aggro, or absorbing damage from enemies so your teammates don't have to.

    And by absorbing I mean:

     

    • Avoiding (Defense)
    • Reducing (Resistance)
    • Surviving (Heal/Regen)

     

    Sorry, that's incorrect at a base level.

     

    Avoiding damage requires you to have aggro for damage to avoid.

    Reducing damage requires you to have aggro for damage to resist.

    Surviving requires you to have aggro for damage to heal/regen.

     

    Yes.  Because there's NOTHING a Sentinel can do to generate aggro.

    Nothing I say!  Nothing AT ALL!

    My default playstyle is "tank it all". And, pretty much, I have.  On every AT available.

  3. Capping the FPS will help keep the CPU and GPU cooler.

     

    And yes, CoH DOES whack graphics setup differently than a lot of the games you're used to.

    Things like SLI don't really provide the benefit you think it would.  Like it does in other games.

     

    A modern, multi-core proc will handle the game just fine.

    And a modern NVIDIA/ATI graphics solution in the system will simply burp and scream for more stuff to do.

     

    There's also the problem of playing at ultra-high resolutions on a regular (11-15") laptop is something you REALLY don't want to exceed 1920x1080 for (if you even want to play at that resolution.  At 1920x1080, stuff at default 100% size in the game can be unreadable.  Leading to you needing to tweak the UI and increase font sizes.

     

     

     

    4K?  On anything less than a 17" system?  Don't do it.  I have 20/20 vision and I'm sorta rueing the decision to go with the 15"  4K screen upgrade.

     

    In Windows I'm using screen magnification on both my laptop AND my desktop.  Otherwise I'd go walleyed trying to read anything.

  4. You're rather badly overslotted on TempInvuln, Unyielding, Weave and Health..

     

    Not a fan of Cross Punch.  Think it's a waste

     

    Much prefer a ranged attack.

  6. Okay.  Not sure what happened.  But I posted to this thread earlier.

     

    If you're at 87.3 and you have the Scaling Resist Unique from Unbreakable Guard, you essentially have 90% S/L from the second you first take any damage at all.

     

    I more or less agree with Heraclea.

  7. I see a lot of ineffective overslotting.

     

     

    Here's a more effective setup that makes you at least an order of magnitude tougher.

    If screenshotting isn't working, likely it means you've either, somehow, unbound the screenshot key.

     

    If you need access to dynamic screenshotting (to "catch stuff in the act", look at rebinding the keys in question or completely resetting keybinds to stock and rebinding.

    You've installed the game somewhere affected by User Account Control which actively interferes with writes to C:\Program Files, C:\Program Files (x86) and C:\ProgramData.

     

    For future reference, I recommend installing to C:\City of Heroes

     

    Also, if you are on Windows Vista or later, you have access to the Windows Snipping tool.  This tool will allow you to screenshot a rectangular area, a whole window, or full-screen.

     

    You can then save as a Bitmap/JPEG/PNG/GIF.

    Or copy it into Word or an image editor.

     

    You should just be able to hit the Windows key and start typing "snipping" and it should come up in the search.

     

    It's not terribly good for "in the moment" screenshotting.  But if you need a static screenshot, it works great.

     

    Also, there are various other screenshotting software packages out there.  Stuff that can be bound to alternative keys or key combinations.

    Something like FRAPS, for instance.

  10. I haven't run into this.  Then again, I'm not REALLY playing wide-aspect ratio.  And only play Windowed because of my goofy setup and how Windows 10 doesn't differentiate between game resolution and desktop resolution.

     

    So I get other issues.  Like finding out how wide the letterboxing is in cut scenes.

  11. Ice is great for Defense.  But if you crack the Defense, it can eggshell nastily.

    So, while you should build towards soft-cap, always look at Resistance buffage too.

     

    Here's an example.  It's kinda ridiculously uber-buff (Incarnate soft-cap to S/L and standard Soft-Cap to everything else.

    And, even though it doesn't REALLY need it, it's got multiple Recovery options (Energy Absorption, Conserve Power).

  12. 1: You don't need +Acc in Taunt.  Taunt is auto-hit for Tanks in PVE.

    2: With Rage, you want to max it's Recharge out ASAP.  The +ToHit is less important when you're running Rage Double-stacked.

    3: You've gone overboard selecting Teleport powers.  You've missed your damage Aura (Mud Pots) and your mez protection (Rooted).  As well as some armor Rock Armor).

    4: And Teleport itself is all you REALLY need (though Recall Friend is nice), but doesn't need to be taken until either just before or just after Rooted.

  15. Move the Steadfast into Unyielding.

    Sure, it won't exemp as low.  But it'll bump your Resists a fraction.

    Recommend converting the 4-slot LOTG in Invincibility to 4-slot Shield Wall.

    The +E/N Resist will be more useful than the +Acc.

    Also, look at using Enhancement Boosters on any generic or non-enhanced IO sets.

     

    I'd also look at my build for power selection order.  It'll produce a generally better-exemping Tank than your choice order will.
