  1. Thank you Hyperstrike. So if I wanted to look at building based on defense which powersets would you recommend for Brute and Tank? Are there acknowledged top tier recommendations for both for Trial/TF tanking? I don't want to learn by building a series of tanky alts that don't work once I reach endgame so I'm looking for an idea as to where to start from. For example I have a low level Shield/Fire tank but I don't want to reach 50 and have learned I made poor choices at the beginning.
  2. Hi, So I am rather happy with my Rad/Fire Brute and must confess I like him more than I like farming. I was thinking of doing a second build for trials/TFs with suitable defence caps. Anyone got any builds they would suggest looking at? How well can Rad/Fire work outside AE? At the moment he sucks Endurance like a dog in the dessert but he's only got the bottom tier of Ageless. Thanks, AWOL
  3. I sympathize with the original poster as many of the responses were critical of the poster as if their was a right and wrong opinion on this. However I think most of the posts give positive suggestions that have not been responded to that the original poster should be open enough to considering. I personally think that seeding the AH isn't required (but I did consider it as this isn't a problem that I have thought about before) if the recipes can be bought with merits which can be earned by doing the most fun things in the game. Merits really aren't difficult to accrue. The alternatives are buying IOs on the AH or enhancement conversion. Most of us do a mix of crafting, buying and converting. Some people are doubtless much smarter about how they do this than I am but still after you get your first tricked out incarnate character it's easy to support alts (although it can seam expensive if you neglect your 50s while obsessing with a new alt, and I say that from experience). My conclusion is that although their are areas that I'd like to change in the game (but too few people agree with me) this isn't one of them.
  4. I've been quoted a lot... "I'd like to see balance introduced that didn't make certain ATs or powersets mandatory but did encourage people to have a good mix" ... with a few different interpretations. I still think that once characters are tricked out with Incarnates they are OPed and their is too little challenge left in the game. I think there is little need for CC now that there is so much AOE and trash is melted in seconds. I think that with everyone being defence capped, damage capped, loaded with recharge, endurance flooding out of their ears, etc. then buffs are no longer as valuable. I think this naturally errodes the value of certain ATs. I am not saying nobody wants them anymore (as it doesn't matter on a high end team as the content will be melted anyway). I am not saying that I want certain ATs to be required. I am saying that we need to either be levelled down as incarnates, or have the content leveled. I am not suggesting my opinion is anything more than my opinion. I get that some of you like us being gods.
  5. Intel Integrated Graphics doesn't seam to play well with City of Heroes. That's my experience with my laptop. If I was buying a new one I'd probably get an Acer Nitro with AMD graphics. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/nitro5 People report these playing the game very well. They have some modestly priced options.
  6. While a few people have quibbled on exactly when the changes happened which they may be right about, my aging memory (and periods of disengagement from the game) mean I am no authority here... I have to say that I think the Incarnate system made players overpowered and a consequence of this, which some see as freedom, means that raw damage (particularly AOE damage) is the most important factor in game play. I run on many teams without a defender (or similar support from other ATs) and there is no issue. I have heard melee characters frequently say "who needs healing". Personally I miss the times when everyone appreciated what defenders brought to a party and felt that this mix is important. I occasionally play in weaker groups (e.g. new L50s with poor gear, unfamiliar with the fights, and no incarnates) and they do struggle without defenders. Crowd Control is similarly only appreciated in the "newer 50s"/"weaker" groups. However soon enough everyone has there set of T4 incarnates and everything is easy. I know there are ways around this but finding people that want to make life difficult for themselves (with a lowish population) server is difficult and I can appreciate how people sometimes want an easy run. So.. I'd like to see balance introduced that didn't make certain ATs or powersets mandatory but did encourage people to have a good mix and bring a Controller/Defender etc. Until coming back to the game with Homecoming I had always played defenders (you couldn't have guessed, eh) but I find that corrupters in the end game bring enough support and more raw damage and therefore am finding my corrupter bring more value to teams. I think this is a bit disappointing. Incarnate power had effects beyond giving everyone buff and heal options they also made AOE more common so the playstyle is that everyone is an AOE king which detracts from some powersets/ATs too. This again undermined the value of certain builds including AOE damage builds and debuff/buff builds as anchors and targets are dead before the debuff/anchored powers have had time to take effect. We've all became a bit more like each other and personally I think it's possible to get flabby and lethargic if one indulges in cake all day.
  7. We are already overpowered as it is without additional buffs on people. I'd also be careful about not introducing WoW style grind. They should be fun and reward XP and Inf.
  8. I'd like to see : 1. More end game content that scales well to give Incarnate players challenges that make them feel more god like 2. The ability to run lower level TFs but have them scale up to higher level teams (level 50 and beyond). In fact ideally this would extend to all content. This second item doesn't require the content creation skills of the first and may be more attainable but would allow people to use their high level skills in old challenges but against credible competition.
  9. Slightly off topic but given that many city of heroes players are a little older did anyone else read Captain Britain as a child? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Britain He was the only superhero i really liked until 2000AD. Temeraire

    Time/water help :-)

I use PBU, Support Radial Embodiment, then Farsight. I may try squeezing Chronoshift on the back of that but it's usually the Radial and farsight.
  11. Hi, I have started having a strange issue in the last week. It usually happens just after entering a mission on a TF. I am often then finding that the spacebar doesn't work. I have found a solution which is to hit the windows key bringing up the windows menu and then click back on to the game. The spacebar will then work. Am I alone in this. Does anyone have any ideas? This is on Win 10 64 bit. I've 16GB of memory, nVidia GTX1060, and an i5-8400. I have a feeling I'll be alone with this annoying inconvenience. Cheers, Temeraire (AWOL)

    Time/water help :-)

Hi, So I don't want to claim to be some guru... I'm just an ordinary guy with extraordinary powers and a desire to right wrongs. As I came back to the game after missing the freemium model and these were new power sets to me, I approached my build while leveling as to try to try out the primary and secondary powers and learned what works well. Once leveled I borrowed heavily from configs posted in the old forums... A guy called Time Bandit was the main influence and Linea was the source I had originally intended to copy. The Water powers were not in these builds so I used my own experience to date and decided that I wanted a good bit of AOE which is nice for clearing mobs. On the Time side I wanted to try and hold on to Temporal Selection. However on the Water Side I miss Dehydrate which I miss on single target AV fights especially when soling. I am considering swapping out Tidal Forces for Dehydrate but I've not made this move (TS would be another option) as it's a hard call. Time is endurance heavy so I wanted Conserve Power for those situations where Endurance buffs are lacking, things are heavy going and endurance is running low then I hit it and keep rolling. On TFs you will usually find that End isn't an issue due to all the buffs that are running. I wouldn't mind having some stealth (Celerity in Super Speed) in the build for running the CoT solo but cannot face respecing to acheive this at the moment. https://web.archive.org/web/20120906160921/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=294668 Here's my build or at least as well as I could recreate it... 13. Oh I would like to make a blue cat that does crazy things although I couldn't call it Looshkin. My kids would love that.
  14. New interior mission maps. New interior missions. New textures. Improved texture quality My original not backed up characters would be a dream came true. A financially viable business model that gives stability. While everyone loves free... Most of us would prefer confidence that the server is sustainable and continues to develop. Free helps to bring people to the servers so this will be tricky. Cost effective Marketing of City of Heroes to attract new players. Install procedure that is antivirus friendly to avoid frightening people off Something I love about the game that I would like to continue is that it is easy to get into the game and just play with a team without a lot of planning on dedicating a huge amount of time to a mission. I often feel lost before I am invited to a group. I like not having to spend lots of time running chores or cleaning the streets. Others will have their own pleasures but I would like this casual accessibility to continue. Part of what makes the game fun is that you are can join in and have fun and contribute whilst not having the optional config. Min/maxing in other games makes choice an illusion. CoH had always been more inclusive by design. I really hope these tasks go well and we get a model that is sustainable. Maybe NCSoft could give pointers to what made sustaining the game not attractive to them.
