The idea is that, given limitless inf, you can use IOs and various pools/incarnates/whatever to softcap defences for Blasters to minimise the amount you get hit. Not getting hit in the first place is most of your survival right there, and the fact that you'll eventually get hit in an encounter is minimised by huge AoE burst damage. The shorter a fight is, the fewer attacks there are, which results in less incoming potential damage.

Right.  Basically everything is capped except damage.  So with IO sets letting you get any AT to the cap for everything that has a cap, an AT that does the most damage is the best.

I have enough toons of every level range that now if I see something advertised I can switch toons and join in the fun.

I just turn off xp on characters at certain levels.  I have a group of 17s and 27s and 34s so I can grab a tanker or controller or other type that a team needs of the appropriate level range.

  3. You can't play it old school.  Fitness pool comes with the character.

There are dozens of people on Excelsior who play low level characters in low level content.  No IO sets.  Hollows missions, Striga, etc.  Some do not use the base transporter and use the train and ships to get everywhere.

CoX is my favorite MMO of all time and I am beyond ecstatic 😍 the HC team's tremendous work allows me to play it again.  However, playing feels somewhat less rewarding than on live.  This is in part, IMHO, because the risk/effort/reward balance is out of balance.  Rewards for general in-game activity and for accomplishing tasks require much less effort or even no effort (if something requires no effort I suppose it actually can't be considered a reward anymore).   I think this is because of power creep and making too many things freebies instead of tying them to in-game activity and tasks.  Thanks.  🙂

I am torn about unlocking things.  Getting capes and auras was cool - but not being able to use the aura or cape at the start was annoying on some characters.  I want my character to look right from the start.

But I would like to see temporary powers as rewards instead of purchases.  Asheron's Call had replayable quests on a long timer - could be a day, a week, or a month.  People joined together to redo them when their timer was up.  The -regen daggers, HVAC pets, and other things would be cool as rewards for playing through TFs or other content.

  5. while we are talking about taking different forms - on the select costume screen under your menu you can choose an animation when you change costume.  That does not seem to stick for me - when I change costumes a day later it uses the standard animation.  Is this supposed to stick for your character?  Is it by account?  I switch alts so much I can't tell how it is supposed to behave.

    1. I'm downloading the game now, but it's moving REALLY slow. Is this normal, and how long does it usually take?

    maybe

    2. Are there certain days of the week /times of day the servers are busier than others?

    evenings and weekends are busiest

    3. Is there anything that differentiates the two regular (non-rp or EU) servers?

Excelsior is the most populated, one of them is the unofficial PvP server

    4. Do people still run super teams? For example, back in the day, my friends and I all made Radiation Defenders, and would run in teams of 8. We melted anything and everything that got infront of us, and discovered that it was a great way to level toons QUICKLY.

    It does happen, not common

    5. Does the game play much differently than it did before?

No.  It is almost identical.  They have done some changes that were in the pipelines when it shut down.

    6. How are the servers maintained? Is there no membership cost?

They ask for donations to cover server costs.  They get enough donations in an hour.  The devs cannot be paid for legal reasons.

  7. I make a lot of characters.  I use a variety of powersets with just a few ATs (tanker and controller mostly).  But I usually play the characters with the same sets - electric control, ice control, kinetics or rad buffing, willpower.

And while I have a wide variety of looks, I tend to play similar looks because I am playing the same powersets.

I will remake Freakshow Recruiter to be an electric/electric controller now that is possible instead of an electric/electric dominator.

  8. We went through the missions at a slightly slow but fairly regular pace, not skipping but not clearing.

We got to the final mission and we did well until we got to the door ambush.  It seemed like they all came out of the door at once, dozens of foes and we got overwhelmed and wiped out.

Because they are ambushes, when people re-entered the map from the hospital the huge horde of foes attacked and wiped them instantly.

I was a tanker, stocked up on inspirations, we got together and jumped in at once.  I stayed up for several minutes while we took out some of them, but I could not hold aggro on all of them and people kept going down.  I was so debuffed I could hit nothing.  Eventually we wiped.

It took 3 team wipes and hospital visits before we cleared the ambush.

Then we headed toward the town hall.  We  defeated the regular spawns and had to take on the clones.  We managed to pull 3 and took 1 down.  Then we charged in and took the rest out.

All told it took an hour and 18 minutes for a TF that normally takes 30.

The amazing thing is no one complained and no one left.  We ended with a full team, and half of them were going to stay together to do Posi 2.

I thought I'd give you all the opportunity to state your official policies on returning donations to players you alienate from your club.

The policy is simple.  Please return all of your game play time and all of the money you donated will be returned to you.

    I have spoken.

  10. Defense and Resistance should be multiplicative, not additive.  Meaning 50% Res + 50% res should give you 75% Res not 100% Res.  The problem with the current system is that a tiny Res increase in a pool power of 5% is useless to a blaster who has no Res but godlike to a tanker who has a Res of 90% already.  Making them multiplicative would mean the value of a Res or Def power would be based on the power itself, not what you are combining it with.
