Created the Victory Base after transferring one of my characters as soon as the shard allowed access, but, didn't post anything about it on the forum until today. The base is open for all, as are each of the community TP hubs I built on each shard. The first room is set up to let people find the portals to the zones they want to get to as quickly as they can, with visual cues provided by side-specific (hero🦸, villain🦹) NPCs in front of the portals to each side and the golden eagles for Praetoria. And, there's an in-base teleport to a list of zones listed from A to Z with level ranges listed for each zone beside each beacon, in the colour representing side, co-op or hazard and trial zones. A small area on the side in the front room has the usual workshop items and there's an in-base teleport to a larger workshop area which includes NPCs. Not as fancy as the one I made for Excelsior shard (Excelsior Shard TP Hub Flying Werewolf Tour), which probably has a lot of kids on it, but, built with practicality in mind. Passcode is VICTORY-229 For a macro you can click on when near a Base Portal: /macroimage archetypeicon_peacebringer SG_TP_VICTORY_(Tech_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode VICTORY-229 Also posted the passcodes in the first room of the base of the two other bases I saw in General channel, as they're probably more appealing to the senses than mine is. In addition to that, I included the URL to the City of Heroes Homecoming New Player Tips page I made on my site: City of Heroes Homecoming New Player Tips While it's a little wordy, there's now a left-side navigation bar complete with emojis so people can find what they want on it faster. Please give the URL to new players who might be frustrated at learning a new game? Or, for those who haven't played the game for years . . . At least that page is more up-to-date than some of my other City of Heroes pages, some of which date back to 2010 or earlier. Started playing this game two decades ago and still think it's fun! See you in-game!😜

Rikti Invasions & Shard-Specific XP Boosts! (Update: Jan 16th)
CyberWoLfman replied to Widower's topic in Announcements
The double XP also applies to the AE, as GM_Kaiju stated on General channel on Indomitable shard at 19:23 (Eastern time, Stateside), so, potentially good news for those interested. -
Hello, everyone! Mea culpa for not being a regular forum poster, but, when I do get on here, I try to post something helpful like the one about the bases I created to act as TP hubs for newer users to find places they want to go to ASAP. They're not as well-designed as some people's, which I'm still in awe about, but, I try. Although I've given the URL out sometimes in-game to individual players and maybe once a day or so on the Help channel, I thought I'd share it with the forum users. It's created primarily for new players, and, possibly, those who haven't played the game in years (kind of similar to why I made the base on the Excelsior shard (RADICAL-7910) so easy to find things (except the hidden rooms, which, aren't really that difficult to find), like splitting the portals up based on the side and posting the level ranges of each zone over them, since most new players frequently choose the busiest shard). The full URL is: https://cyberwolfman.com/coh_tips_homecomingservers_city_of_heroes_homecoming.htm But, I made a tinyurl to it with https://tinyurl.com/coh-homecoming-tips which might be easier to give out in-game. Just added a section near the top about the Halloween Event (also included a link to the official page at https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/44585-spooky-season-approaches-homecomings-halloween-event-2023) and posted my bind to find the EBs faster! 🙂 Maybe it's something that players can give out to those who want to get used to the game ASAP. Copy and paste it into a global in-game e-mail to yourself, if you'd like. :-) There's some spots where I go into details (such as ways to get around faster in the game, like using LFG queueing and how to play the game on Linux), but, I've left out tips on using the Auction House or Black Market, if for no other reason than it fluctuates a lot, so, what might be true at the time I write and post it on the Web page, it'll probably change in a matter of hours. LOL Don't know if the devs might want to include it in a mission-loading tip or not, since I'm certain there's more well-designed pages out there (I code using a simple text editor, as I have for decades), but, at least I can say it's ad-free and there's nothing for sale on it, like the rest of my personal Web site.

What's Your Favorite Trade Paperbacks Old and New?
CyberWoLfman replied to kosten07's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Ah! For a moment, I thought you had meant paperback books (for those interested, my favourites are primarily authors such as Robert A. Heinlein and Larry Niven with occasional readings of lesser-known authors such as Wilson Tucker and Murray Leinster, who wrote the short story "A Logic Named Joe" about networked personal computers and what people would do with them back in the 1940s), but, it seems you meant those which are focused on comic books. Hmm . . . Although it might be a trifle dated, some of the pulps might fit the bill, but, could be too obscure for most people. So, I'll say the Conan the Barbarian series a scant few decades back, which were in black and white. Others would be Kull and The Spider (think of a hybrid Batman and the Punisher but more violent). -
issue 27 Patch Notes for December 1st, 2020 - Winter Event!

Put another way; it'd be like seeing a pop-up alerting you to an update to your operating system (one of the Linux distributions (their name is Legion!) or micro$haft winblow$) just after the POST, before the OS loaded. P.S. Nice profile picture, Faultline! Reminds me of one of my older pictures (https://cyberwolfman.com/grokwlk2.jpg)! LOL -
issue 27 Patch Notes for December 3rd, 2020

A great big THANK YOU from those of us who are . . . chronically out of synch. 😉 -
Coldhearted badge: Perez Park, along the stream in about the middle of the map. Man in Black/Woman in Black: Marshal Brass' mission to retrieve Amanda Vines in Cap au Diable is GREAT to farm Shivans in! If you're the squishy type, wait until you get a few levels higher than when you got it and change your notoriety setting to x8 and just farm the first floor of the mission. Should have the badge in one-four times through it, depending on the map used. Spider Smasher: Fort Hades in Port Oakes is definitely a good spot to find Arachnos wolf spiders! LOL

ELdRiTcH MaNzAzUu (a Necromancy/Time mastermind) with the character description: "For thousands of years before you humans even spoke in words, I walked upon your world. You have changed it to what you desire, paying no heed to the consequences of your actions as you sought to fill your insatiable greed and thirst for power. You destroy, ravage, desecrate, pillage, murder and exterminate all which stands in your way. You value trinkets, currency, toys and property as if they were all that mattered. What, then, will you do when you have finally acquired all that you could possibly desire? Is your ultimate goal to become bored, lazy and fat, sitting passively in front of a lighted screen which demands all of your attention, until your ephemeral lifespan rapidly dwindles away? This is life? Bah! Crypts are filled with those of a like mind, whose lives passed all too quickly away! Live each day, EACH MOMENT, as if it were your last, for it very well might be!" Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but, you get the idea . . . And, yes, he's a little on the short side. Less likely to bump into things in the smaller cave maps. But, still gets stuck on those ratzit-fratzit torches in the Circle of Thorns maps.

Confirmed. Mechahamham has the right of it. It has to be updated as it had expired back on June 4th, 2020. Many Web sites use an automated process instead of the manual renewal way, where there's signing, validation, creation of the certificate and installation for 'secure' (some use low encryption, but, to be safer, 128 bit AES keys for TLS or higher are recommended for regular Web sites while others use much higher security). If you're un-familiar with the nomenclature or wish to know more, you can look it up on-line. Just keep in mind that by doing so in an area where privacy (or using things like TOR, VPNs, MAC-spoofing and the like) is a no-go, you might get red-flagged which might lead to other things . . . Back in the mid-1990s, I was using 4,096-bit encryption just for the e-mail address that I had made publicly known, and, back then, the majority of people thought that those who believed that governments, corporations or 'black hat' types were violating people's privacy were in the tinfoil hat league and merely conspiracy theorists. ;-)

When checking the Merit ATM inside one of my bases, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it would sell me SOs (Single-Origin) enhancements at the cost of 1 merit each, down to level 20. First off, thank you for that, so that characters don’t have to wait until level 22 to purchase SOs. :-) But, could you maybe have it sell SOs at levels 15, 10 and 5, as well? One of the reason some players do the DfB so often is to get the SOs which they cannot get at those levels from anywhere else (except for via AH, if they’re available at all for the levels they’re looking for, as other players try to sell the ones they don’t need). Either that, or perhaps seed the SOs of those levels into the AH like other things you already do?

Hello. Just a quick one, but, could someone make the ‘combat’ pets which you purchase at the P2W vendor survive combat? You know, so it’s not a TOTAL misnomer? LOL The last time I checked, they had a ‘resistance’ of -75% to everything and single digit health. It’s not as though they represent a really big boost or anything like that, considering the fact that you can buy enhancements which boost your resistance, defence, recovery and all that far beyond what the pets give you.

Here's the post I had made a while ago in another topic about five bases I've created (or had someone else create in one case) for the use of the community. They are primarily set up for people to get around faster with zones sorted by side. Some community-accessible bases with macros (new people: select and copy (Ctrl+c) from the / to the last number, paste (Ctrl+v) into your chat window and hit the Enter/Return key) I have set up so far (yes, they're also included in my signature): Excelsior server TP hub with sorted zones and NPCs for your use: /macroimage archetypeicon_peacebringer SG_TP_RaDiCaL_(Tech_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode RADICAL-7910 As this is the busiest server, I figured the new players would likely start here, so, I have listed the level ranges by each beacon for them (or for returning players who can't remember the exact level ranges after so many years away from the game), as shown in the picture below. Torchbearer server TP hub with sorted zones and NPCs for your use: /macroimage originicon_magic SG_TP_AllOurBase_(Arcane_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode ALLOURBASE-7287 Reunion server TP hub with sorted zones and NPCs for your use: /macroimage originicon_magic SG_TP_Introverts_(Arcane_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode INTROVERTS-3357 What text there is in this base is runes, as it would be a closer match to an arcane themed base than the English alphabet. Everlasting (the unofficial RP server, and, yes, the base is MEANT to be a little 'over-the-top', BUT, those suffering from hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia should avoid it) TP hub with sorted zones and NPCs for your use: /macroimage originicon_magic SG_TP_SHADOWS_(Arcane_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode SHADOWS-10030 Indomitable server with NPCs right at the entrance and the teleports just down the hallway and to the left (follow the arrows): /macroimage archetypeicon_peacebringer SG_TP_ToTaLLY_RaD_(Tech_Theme) enter_base_from_passcode RAD-5896 This was one of the first things I've done in the game, as I've always thought it was important to help others in life and on-line (I've been warning people about threats to their privacy from corporations and governments and how to use encryption DECADES before Snowden did), but, I'm the weird guy with the .com domain which doesn't have a single ad on it or anything for sale and is practically littered with help and tip pages. ;-) Never got the whole greed thing. Is the end goal for most people to get everything they've ever wanted and then become bored? LOL The icons I've used, as you may've noticed, can't be confused with power icons (maybe it'll help relieve a little stress for players) with the magic origin icon for the arcane-themed bases and the peacebringer icon because, well, it looks kind of science-fictiony and the tooltips provide helpful descriptions on mouse-over (or mouseover to some of us . . .) in case others use similar icons. The zones in the bases are sorted (in most of them) by hero/blue/Paragon City, villain/red/Rogue Isles, hazard zones, Praetoria, co-op, and fast leveling zones (Atlas Park for DfB, DiB and Peregrine Island for the Tina Macintyre and Maria Jenkins story arcs that other players can invite you to). Almost all of the bases also include trainers/arbiters, quartermasters, fateweavers/field analysts and Icon/Facemaker NPCs all in the same room with vault and invention table access (except the arcane-themed one with the statues of Ghost Widow and Dominatrix facing each other, with the invention table and vault in the next room that you click on the glowing doorknobs to access and the base on Indomitable server). The NPCs are also used as visual hints for the zones, like putting an arbiter and fateweaver in front of the villain/red/Rogue Isles zone portal and a Vanguard trainer and field analyst in front of the hero/blue/Paragon City zones. The reason for doing this is because some people respond better to visual aids and some people are better with written ones. Most of the bases also include text and direction arrows by the portals and on the floor, helping to guide you to each. In the arcane-themed one with Ghost Widow and Dominatrix, however, I've written the text out in runes. ;-) Since Torchbearer server is the one I think many veteran players use, there is no text at all for the portals, just the NPCs. This should cut your travel time down some, getting to the zones or NPCs you need to interact with. Hint: If you just want to change your Notoriety (or whatever it's called for heroes and vigilantes), instead of using the fateweaver/field analyst, click the little Quick Chat button in the bottom right corner of your chat window, to the right of the CLI (where you type your chat or commands in, hence the acronym CLI (Command Line Interface)), choose the bottom link in the pop-up and pick what you want to change from there. :-) Next! LOL

Absolutely LOVE the idea of being able to buy SOs from level five and up! Although, this might also mean some players might not be doing the DfB as often, as some use it as a way of getting low-level SOs early on. LOL The enhancement upgrade is DEFINITELY appreciated, but, maybe it would help those who aren't well-heeled in the game if it was free the first time each character did it, as they might not be able to afford it and hadn't budgeted for it. As for IOs, I generally don't purchase the generic ones until around level 32, based on the strength of them in comparison with the SOs of my characters' origins. Made a Web page years back when the game was live (which people can find here: https://cyberwolfman.com/cov_coh_enhancements_city_of_villains_city_of_heroes_enhancement_comparison_guide.htm and there's no ads or anything for sale on that entire site), but, not 'mobile friendly' (except that it has a black background, un-like 'mobile friendly' Web pages which all have white backgrounds, where the RGB is cranked up to 100% (in the code it would be bgcolor="#ffffff" or similar), which would drain a device's battery faster), but, not certain if the values have remained the same. Regardless, thank you, thank you, thank you! :-)
