  1. "Performs better" is dependent on what tasks you are expecting to accomplish.  If you truly want the durability of a tank, then tank it is.  Other ATs can "tank", but tanks were designed, from the jump, to...well...tank.  Shield (defensive based set) is top-tier in survivability, with ridiculous positional defensive numbers and extremely high inherent DDR.  You duly note there is no heal, so pairing with a secondary that has a heal (like Dark Melee), makes it even more survivable.  If you can wait until the incarnates, you can also cover that gap, there.

I take great pride in knowing my henchmen only had half a clue what they were in for and still stuck through with only minimal complaining! Besides, how many opportunities do you have to run a 1 hour Yin?

Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of Clamor going down.

+4/8 with no daggers (or any other temp powers, for that matter) did make for a bit of a slog, but we kept pounding at it.  There were at least three of us (maybe four), who weren't incarnated, so 24 defeats was not only not surprising, but was probably the largest I've seen in all my TT years.  I realized that Rad/SS is virtually a cheat-code level pairing, as I didn't fall, all night (came close a couple times when moving forward to herd and hadn't done my click buffs).  At 41, with a hodge podge of sets and standard IOs, at that.  Mixing it up makes for a fun time.  Count me in!

P.S.  Ewwww (the thought of Clamor "going down")...

Super strength and Electric Armor or Stone Armor? Tanker or Brute?

I recommend the Stone/SS tank.  My titular toon (and first 50 tank and second 50 ever on Live) is just ridiculous.  Stone, on a tank, is so strong you don't even need Granite armor, but I kept it for an oh-$hit button and because a stone tank without Granite is like, well.../insert one of many comparative phrases, here/

Brawl. When you're tapped out and can do nothing, Brawl is there. Brawl is with you start to finish. It asks nothing and gives everything. Brawl is life. It knows you'll get your nukes and one shotters and snipes. It knows you'll eventually become an Incarnate. Yet through it all, Brawl is there. It waits for that moment when all else fails and you have only your two fists to depend on. So keep Brawl on your tray, hell, slot that sucker with...

All joking aside, once you hit level 12, you can slot Pounding Slugfest - Disorient Bonus.

Unfortunately, I didn't feel comfortable with the team I had to start up a Hard Mode (6-man was my minimum, 5-man was what we ended up with), so instead we ran a +4 Classic, Insps disabled. I totally should've made it enemies buffed

That's not to say the players on my team were bad, but I think the only person that could've put up with that level of torture would've been @PLVRIZR. (Consider this a rain check)

Yeah, what a great time.  Even with only five, we were mighty as evidenced by finishing in just under an hour (59 min.).  At +4/8 and no insp.  And a kill most, at that.  Kudos to everyone!

Challenge, accepted!  Knowing ITF was the weekly, I brought one of my Inv tanks (BALLBUSTR).  It's not the NUTCRCKR build, so it lacked Pyre Mastery (instead taking FA and Cross Punch), which would have made the AVs drop a bit quicker.  When we run it, Iet's do it on Exc, and I'll bring NUT.  Also, with only one Ageless equipped toon, I had to very carefully time the activations, for both the end bar (mostly for the team) and the DDR.  Disabling inspirations was a fun challenge, for sure.  Enemies buffed would have probably added another 30 min.

  6. Just my .02 inf.:  SS without Rage is like Macaroni without Cheese.

Rad is an excellent pairing, because of the diminished effect of the -def on Rage crash.  Multiple ways to also diminish the effect of the -dam (procc'd attacks, prestige attacks - Sands of Mu/Blackwand/Nemesis Staff, taunting, repositioning and/or repositioning-herding of mobs).

  7. Trying to find a "trustworthy" player to transfer infl. between toons.

Making all Mutant origin toons because the Mutant store was close to the Steel tram and hitting lvl 12 and racing there (without dying) to load up on DOs.

FINALLY hitting 14 and getting a,...wait for it...TRAVEL POWER!!!

Very first time my Kin/Dark 'fender teamed with a SS tank, over level 18 and watch the windup of Knockout Blow.  Amazing!

Getting that same 'fender to 50, by teaming with a Stone tank on the Chimera ninja map and speed boosting that granite/SS pile driver to herd half the map at a time.  I think I went from 42 - 50 in about two hours.

Turning off all powers and jogging back to Ms. Liberty, to train, after dinging 50, regardless of where you were.  Usually Peregrine Island...

PLV lead the Synapse team (3 mighty Tanks taking on the TF)

My pleasure!  We were a small team, but we were mighty!  @Warboss, @Spaghetti Betty and I finished a +2/4 (we thought we were going to start with four, but one didn't accept the LFG port and was dropped, by the UI) in 1:01 with no defeats.  I took my Inv/DM (homage to Heraclea's original build) and it was a cakewalk. 😆

Have to mention that our Numina TF was all Radiation Armor Tanks (5 of us). First time I remember being on a team of all the same primary.

Was great fun, and as you could guess, things melted.

And with two SS, one RadMelee and I forget the other two, a whole lotta AOE love to go around.  Thanks for leading, it was a blast.

Love lore-driven choices.  Ignore those that will say "this and that are better because...."   Roll with it.  I have an Elec/Elec who is amazing.  Also a FIre/FIre who just melts everything.  Look forward to seeing your final build with Fire/Elec.

    Rock on!

OOoh, officially choosing between Rad & Bio...

Once you've done and enjoyed either of those, you've just *got* to have a FIre/Fire/Pyre in your stable.  Very survivable (not as much as Rad and Bio, obviously), but killing things before they can hit you is better than Defense, Resistance and Absorb Shields, combined 🙂  /of course insert some sarcasm, before the hardest of hard core tanker posters vilify me.../

  12. Super grats to @Pep Rally for hitting 50 with her shield tank, on the end of TF (killing Reichsman) ding.  I've played this game a long time and there's not much in the game as gratifying as being on a team when a teammate hits that magical 50, regardless of how many 50s we have.

We spanked Reichsman and the entire TF in 38 min., at +2, so it was a GREAT night.  Grats again Pep.  You rock and we were honored to be there for your latest 50.

    Catch you all, next week.

How DID you manage that?  I counted eight tanks standing around you while teams were forming.  Were some of them under 35 then?

We even exited the first mish, really almost immediately after the first herd, sent tells, quit and reformed the TF.  Sometimes it just happens (or doesn't).   I blame WB (as usual)...

What a great Numina! I had my drunk game goggles on, so I was more focused on herding than photography!

SB wins the herding award.  You were a herding machine last night (as always).  Numina can be a grind, but we had a couple SS toons (two Inv and one WP, methinks) so it was pretty cake-walkie.  Nice job on the hunts, too.  Always fun to play with "smart" tanks (is that an oxymoron?)...

We had a great turnout on Excel tonight, almost five full teams! We ran Katie Hannon (thanks for leading Ronin), Numina's (thanks for taking the star PLV)

Somehow we only managed a six-tank team, but we were mighty!  Ran it at +2/8 and finished in 1:11 (IIRC).  Good times were had by all and lots of leveling (along with quite a few Devouring Earth vanquishes.

  16. I've been running a SR/Savage, on the TT Saturday tour, and he's been a blast.  Mid-30s, with only common IOs and the Tanker ATO procs (and a few uniques, for good measure).  He's really tanky and does a $hit-ton of damage, to boot.  I've never run SR on a tank, so just leveling with every power and trying everything out.  For that matter, haven't run SR on anything but a scrap, on live, pre IO system, before...so am certainly no expert.

Have fun and, as David Lee Roth famously said..."tell us how you do!"

Lots of fun tonight on Everlasting. We ran two Hess TFs (thanks for leading PLV and MsA)

My pleasure, as always.  We had a full team (some ex'd down incarnates and some just making the Hess level requirement), but blasted through a KM +2/8 in 38 min.  Notable mention to @Spaghetti Betty and @ZemX for leading the herding, as I was fiddling with team management and working with teammates to make sure everyone had TT (or had enough cash for the next event 😆).  Hope to see you, Saturday on Reunion!

Good run tonight on Torch. Three teams, two Citadel TFs and one missions team. Thanks for running the missions team MsA and thanks to PLV for taking the other Cit.

My pleasure and we had a ball.  Seven tanks, with a nice mix of Ex-d 50s and 30-ishes, finished a kill through (kill most) +2/8 in 1:01.  No screenshots but the herding was glorious.  Also a shout-out to @Agoogala for taking over the team for the missions hook-up in PI, after.

But the occasional incarnate heal from the tower busting team was very much appreciated.  It was definitely close at times.

That was me...one of the ways I fill the SD "no heal" hole (Rebirth) and yes, I was watching your health bar.  Your near-death experiences and my Rebirth recharge were in sync, for sure.  Full-service teammate tank, baby.

I have no place to talk, however, since I'm not sure how my fully incarnated, SD/Dark tank was practically one-shotted by LR, to start that sequence, so I just went over to help with the towers. 😆

You did great, by the way!!!
