I've always thought that was an unfair characterization.  Remember, the French were the first to be conquered, yet they never stopped fighting back.  Also remember that France controlled most of the Europe and even much of the 'New World' not so long before that... under a fellow named Napoleon.

Fair, and don't get me wrong, as it's a joke and generalization.  I truly appreciate the French, because without their support during the Revolutionary War with England the United States wouldn't be what it is today.

You do have to admit that they've surrendered A LOT, since then 🙂

The return of @Diantane. Many of their followers waited with baited breath for the wise words of their leader. Why play anything in this game without their blessing? Doing so would be foolish and a waste of time. Unless fun is defined by @Diantane, none can be had.

And for the newer players (please read some of D's previous posts...more like "Diatribes by Diantane") I will say that unless you specifically want the original feel of Live, and only DOs/SOs, there's no reason you can't have both tanker ATO procs, by Posi1 (read any of the great money-making threads by @Sovera or @Yomo Kimyata).  While I also take mostly armors on my tanks, early on, I'll make sure to get the first and second (or third) attacks, so I can slot the aforementioned procs.  Quick recharging, fast animating, simple attacks...that proc a lot.  The +res and absorb from MoT and GF, respectively, make big differences in survivability, especially pre-20.  Fill that in with free prestige attacks, and you'll run out of end, before you run out of attacks.

The Stone Armor challenge ran a speedy Moonfire TF to start and then faced down Neuron & Antimatter (thanks to @MsAligned for that mission) and then merged the teams and ended the night with a few radios and ToT doors. And congratulations to @Waraxe and @Xterra for getting their Stone Armor tanks up to 50 tonight!

...and we had a blast, whipping through that Moonfire in 43 min.  We also found Jack-in-Irons, near the exit on the next to last Moonfire mish, so after vanquishing Arakhn, we went back and pounded on him for the extra merits.  Great fun and many levels were had by all.  Thanks to @Ronin_Around for leading, sorry I missed the last few radios but congrats to the new 50s!

A good run for the tanks on Everlasting tonight, there were 3 full teams running. Many thanks to @Oterra for leading the mission team and to @PLVRIZR for leading the non-Electric Melee Yin TF.

We had quick romp through a +2/8 Yin, but with only seven tanks as one who "signed up" realized they wouldn't have time to finish...which is too bad because it only took us 36 minutes to vanquish the Freaks, Council and the safety-pin-stockings equipped Clamor.  Probably could have made it an even 30 min., with an additional tank.  Oh well, many levels and a great time was had by all, regardless.

I wish i saw this post before yesterday.  I made an Invul/Dark tank and got him to 46.  I believe I will tryout both and see which I prefer.  It won’t be hard with the double xp event.  Thank you all for the helpful advice

Two of my most durable tanks are Inv/Dark and Shield/Dark.  Can't go wrong with either.

I should be easily survivable with what I have but I am still finding a need to eat lucks to survive solo as the mobs just aren't melting fast enough without them.

Sounds like your defense is getting debuffed.  You can monitor your stats and know when your defense is floored.  The "Big Mobs" maps' mobs *do* have the Fiery Melee defense debuffs in-play.  Furthermore, you are susceptible to ranged attacks from any mob that is in LOS (with some distance limits), so if you may be taking more incoming damage than needed.

It was a good time on Torchbearer tonight for Tanker Tuesday. We had three teams running tonight with dueling ITF teams lead by @PLVRIZR and @Pep Rally

Our team had a blast and finished a +2 in 1:10.  Not bad considering it was a "kill most" and with only tanks, it was a bit of a slog on the final "defeat Romulus four times" mission.  Many levels, even for the incarnated tanks (I got two piloting NUTCRCKR, going from VL568 to VL570 😁).

    Por que no los dos?

You can certainly do that (pick both listed power sets), but we don't want to pidgeon-hole peeps who want to use a different secondary.

  9. @Ronin_Around must still be recovering from the very large turnout on Excelsior last night.  I can report on the team I led through a +0/8 Synapse.  +0 because several of us were running our Energy Aura "challenge" tanks and were in the late teens and early twenties, at the outset.  We finished in a respectable 1:28 and some of the added time was a bonus Babbage, which was right in front of the door entrance to the Clockwork Prince mission (from a different TF team), so we helped with that one and then got our own, very shortly thereafter.  Double Merits!  Only two defeats and only because @X'terra did their best @wittylibrarian impersonation and face planted twice (but not until the last couple of missions).  Great fun and many levels were had, thanks to all who came out.

Next Tuesday is Torchbearer, with Imperious (ITF) and Justin Augustine as the WSTs.  See you in the City!

  10. Don't have a build for you (I'm an old-school Spines/Fire broot farmer for FFs), but the @BigGotter's Big Mobs tunnel map still works for me.

There are several guides for making easy infl/infamy, outside of farming, so you might want to check out @Sovera's signature for "money making"...and if you're in for a majorly enjoyable and informative story, read @Yomo Kimyata's "Journey to a billion influence" (or something like that)

. We had 3 teams running with @PLVRIZR boldly leading 5 tankers though the Apex and Tin Mage II TFs, reports are they were a little slower than usual but got it done in style regardless.

Accurate summary (as always), but we had a blast slogging through it (as always).  I didn't catch the time for Apex, but it was about the same as TinMage at 53 minutes.  We thought we were going to start with six, but one was denied entry by LFG (and we all thought the "Alpa slot unlocked" requirement was no more, but the fact that they were only at 85% 'til unlock seems to point to the contrary).  Battle Maiden and Director 11 caused most of the delays and it's a good thing a couple of us were loaded with daggers, because I threw TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY-THREE, in the (not quite) two hours to complete the dual TFs.

"Victory" was ours, in the end 😆

Rad is plenty tough so long as you don't forget to shore up certain debuff resistances.   Because it has no defense built in, it's vulnerable to stacking debuffs like -toHit and -defense.  i.e. Because everything hits you.  So I never skip Energy Master for Focused Accuracy for one.  And I also pick up a few two-slot Winter IO bonuses to stack up a little more slow resistance.  Being slowed is deadly because Rad's other survival layers, the self-heal and the absorb shield, both depend on recharge.  So do these things and stack up a bit more resistance and you'll be fine in most content, like @Warboss said.

For extra survivability, I like Staff Fighting.  My Rad/Staff is easily my toughest tanker.  You can get decent melee defense without spending a lot on defense or defense IO set bonuses.  You also get a +res bonus in the Sky Splitter finisher when in the damage stance.  On Tankers, it's a hefty +13% res(all).  That on top of Might of the Tanker can easily account for +25% res(all) full time.  Basically I am hard capped to all but Cold most of the time without using any T9 or Incarnate abilities.

Ground Zero is fun when procced for damage.  I am also partial to adding a purple KD proc to it because seeing everyone take a seat when I fire that sucker off never gets old.  It also clearly communicates to your team that you just got everyone's attention.  I love seeing a Kin zip in and Fulcrum while everyone is still standing up.

I second Warboss' sentiment.  This is the way and Zem is excellent at it.

Can anyone share their experience with TW, please?

TW is slow.  Slower than Rad Melee...which is saying something.

While many have had success with resistance armors on Scrappers, you're self-nerfing since it'll be capped at 75%.  Go Broot, fo sho. (if you wind up actually doing it)

My defense is comically low, although given I don't have many sets yet I dont forsee much good tanking below 40% defense before my non-toggle buffs. Also could use any other advice those familiar with EA tanker can offer.

Biggest plus side at least is I've noticed much less end issues than is normal.

We are currently running an Energy Aura armor "challenge" for Tanker Tuesday Tour on Excelsior.  We got through DFB and the Frostfire arc and my tank wound up on 16 and ready for the Posi1/2 TFs.  Next month (and on the 7th), we'll be taking on the Synapse TF, and it also happens to be the WST.

I'm fairly new to Energy Aura (only one other toon - EM/EA Brute), but have been tanking since 2004...hence Taunt at lvl 10.  Since Homecoming offers prestige attacks, and I'm a survivalist first, I have all the armors available at 16.  Using the above advice, and any Res and Def IOs available at this level, I wound up with this:

    image.thumb.png.2ef85623150c9720fe275e8f87baa349.png

He's pretty immune to +1/+2 bosses (street sweeping in Steel Canyon), but obviously not a damage powerhouse.

There were also two teams running on the Energy Aura Tank challenge with @PLVRIZR and @Warboss leading those teams each through a DFB and then through the Hollows to finish the night beating up Frostfire.

I think most got to the 14-15 range so Energy Aura challenge will continue Oct 7th on Excel when Synapse is the WST. If you missed out on the start you have time to get a new Energy Aura tank to 15 to join with us next month.

We had a good time, albeit a bit of a grind and some last-minute shuffling of teams in the League.  MANY thanks to @Warboss for handling that task as I was quick to give him the star back, once he arrived at the scene (which was already hopping, a good 25 minutes before the usual start time).

It had been many moons since I had run Frostfire, so thanks to everyone re-educating me about Officer WIncott and Flux 🙂.  Then @wittylibrarian fulfilled the usual destiny by falling first 😆.  We were running a +0/8, but lost two members in the last two missions, so fought through waves of Outcasts, with a small but mighty team of six.  Quite satisfying to drop FF, after an almost two hour slog (for the entire night, the final mish and "arrest" of Frostfire was only about 10-12 min.).

I think most of us ended at 13 or 14, so would be willing to organize a out-of-cycle TT event to run Posi1 and Posi2, in preparation to next month's Synapse, if there's enough interest.  Maybe Sunday night?

Three teams running with thanks to @Oterra for taking the mission team lead and @PLVRIZR for running a regular Manticore TF. The electric melee challenge ran a Manticore as well, thanks to @MsAligned for taking the lead on that.

We had one of the most enjoyable TTs, in recent memory, last night.  Eight completely overpowered (albeit exemplared) tanks ripped through a +2/8 Manti in 55 minutes, with only one defeat (won't say who got distracted and dropped unexpectedly).  One of our team also noted that there were no duplicate power sets, so the mayhem was quite varied.

Does Barrier help? I thought Hami damage was unresistable (hence the EoEs (special resistance for all ATs). I know Ageless helps with recharge, and have heard that Rebirth and Clarion (?) are beneficial as well. I know MsA has the breakdown on this. I'll see if I can talk with them. They specialize in Hami raids.

Good points and it's been awhile, obviously.

In regards to the Dec 30th Hami:

We need to work out how/who will be Tanking Hami for us (as mentioned the raid will be on Torch this time - PLV, you up for being Hami bait?).

If I'm available and on, sure.  Got a couple of options...having a couple league-mates with Barrier helps, as well.  We usually travel for New Years', but I carry along a gaming laptop, so should be OK.  (Especially since CoH will run on a toaster with dial-up)

@PLVRIZR and @MsAligned both took out teams to tackle the Ernesto Hess TF. Many thanks to them for doing that.

See you all in the City

We started with seven, but lost one just before the LFG attempt to jump to start, so six of us finished a +2/7 in an hour.  Grand time and a couple of levels, more for the un-incarnated.  Did have an error getting started (said one of the team couldn't join), so our time included hoofing it to Striga.

Very busy night on Excel for Tanker Tuesday with 5 full teams running. Many thanks to @PLVRIZR & @Warboss for each leading a Citadel TF, both gett9ing done in 53-54 minutes with PLVs team having the slight edge in the finish.

We had a grand time and, as Ronin reports, finished a +2/8 in 53 minutes, with a KM until the last mish where we went straight to "vandalize" the AV.  Only two defeats with @Waraxe doing their best @wittylibrarian impression, in the first 8 - 10 minutes...with Witty following suit about 20 minutes later.  Anyone else who needs Manti on their stone armor challenge tanks, keep a lookout for that potential in the future, as well.

A grand old time was had on Everlasting tonight, 27 tankers joined forces to kick the Rikti off the planet in a Mothership Raid despite a crash on the initial attempt to launch the attack.

Many thanks to those that came out for the event.

Yes, that was a hoot.  Thanks for organizing, Ronin.  Also special shout-out to @Warboss, who diligently re-invited all players...then led the pylon sequence.

    See you in the City!
