I'm not going to from the build end but from the tactics end.

I see 4 major types of mastermind play.

I think that you are going to find it is best to pick the type of mastermind you intend to be before trying to figure out slotting.

    1) The tanker. The mastermind always runs their minions in defense mode, stays nearby their minions, uses their minions to do damage, and focuses on keeping their minions healed and empowered.

    2) The Mastermind behind the curtain. The mastermind tries to stay as far away from danger as possible and sends in their minions to do their dirty work. Why bother healing your minions when you can summon more and send them to their death fighting for the cause?

    3) I'm the Boss. The mastermind slots to empower themselves and the minions are just there as a distraction and cannon fodder.

    4) Eris/Discord. The mastermind sets their minions on total offensive attack mode to start chaos by attack whoever and wherever they see a target to attack. Just run around berserk. Who cares if the minions die? If you aren't summoning minions every time your minion summons powers recharge, then you must not be playing the game properly.

Now that you know what type of mastermind you want to be (or at least thinking about it), now you can focus on how to slot to make that style of gameplay work the best for you.

The Tanker.  This is 100% how I want to play my MM.

Honestly though, what makes me do the Jonah laugh at this is:

There are people doing lots for their volunteer projects, yet it comes off to me almost like there’s a creepy sycophantic devotion to these devs from folks here because “they gave us our game back(they didnt. That was Score or whatever, and THEY didnt want to but it got leaked, so…).

Look, there’s liking the game and that’s awesome! But saying, “they do it for free” and expecting folks to not vent their frustrations, then when a dissenting opinion is given, being lambasted and given this “they do it for free” excuse( to those being mature about it) is laughable. Hence why people well…laughed.

Also! They are not glass, they will not break bc some people on the internet said a mean word. They don’t need a cult at their beck ‘n call. Not saying everyone who likes them is apart of said cult, that’s directed to the fervent defender-types(and im not talkin the AT :P)

Edit: I appreciate the good but I do not give a pass on the bad. I, well I at least attempt to, give my blunt yet inpersonal view on changes proposed and will do so. “Do this for free” be damned.

I have absolutely no argument with what you just said, it all makes perfect sense. It'S one thing to be thankful for the effort of a team but it's another to apply blind devotion and ignore any other option because of that enthusiasm.

That said, all I feel here IS enthusiasm. I don't go anywhere else because I never felt my experience was compromised at any point, I'm just happy here, and while I can understand why some people may feel differently, I felt it was pushing it a bit to just point and laugh without an explanation.

Now I have an explanation. Thank you.

Well that would give Aeroprism reason to cringe certainly, but not for the lack of a best and genuine community.

More like people behaving inappropriately and not providing the measured and repeatable testing requested by the Homecoming team, or just outright telling the developers they should quit because they don't agree with a change made. Would it surprise anyone to know that one developer took a hiatus from this game after that toxicity?

So I just did a bit of reading.  Cringe indeed.

I don't know if the situation changed since this place opened but from what I know, this place is still managed by a very small, very dedicated team of people who do this for free, just because they believe in their product and their passion.

Whenever I tell someone about this game, I always get the same question. "Wasn't this game closed for good a few years back?"  To which I answer "Yes, it was, but these Homecoming guys gave it back to us, they improve it, they diligently create new and interesting content and they do it at their own pace because it's a small team."

Most people don't even bat an eye and go back to the latest WOW expansion because CoX is a pretty niche experience, but I did manage to get 3-4 people to come back here, try it and stay for a while.

But hey. We get this chance to play the game we loved for free by people who work their asses off, yet there are people who go pitchfork and torch over a change they didn't like.  This is why I'll never work on a project like this, my skin isn't thick enough. In the 20+ years I published video game remixed music, I was fortunate enough never to get that sort of flak.

There’s been so many explanations no one wants to waste their time giving another when the search bar exist.

I’ll give ya a place to start though: Page 5 Focused Feedback threads. That should give you an idea why folks laugh at the idea of “best and genuine” community.

All right search bar, let's do this.  "People laugh at me when I like this server, why?"

On a more serious note, thanks for the pointer. I'll check that page 5.

People can disagree with you and there's nothing wrong with that.  There's things this server does ok, there's things other servers do way, way, way better.  Maybe if you looked into what other servers are doing and have to offer, you could have an opinion on the topic, just like others have.

    Yup.  Yours stinks too. 😉

Debates are healthy and fine, they make us discover new perspectives, so long as we're opened to see what the other side has to say.

Even though I have no intention of leaving Homecoming, I am absolutely not closed to the idea that there might be different and better servers out there but flat out laughing at people who disagree with you gives them pretty poor promotion.

The point here isn't about agreeing or disagreeing.  There's still no argument to challenge my original statement, therefore there is no debate.

All there is is my statement, and people posting memes that indicate that they don't agree with it and laugh at it.  There is still no reason for me to want to lean your way. "Go ahead and check it out for yourself" is not an argument.

Well, what I had in mind was "Put your Inf where your mouth is" but hey, whatever floats. 😛

  6. Very fun so far! I She was 22 before I took my break, she's level 25 now.

Soloing at x3+0 and I'm having no end issues and no danger at all.  First mission was a pain: Radio mission with Tsoo in purple caves. I mean, what spells FUN better than teleporting mobs in a 3D claustrophobic clusterfuck.  But I managed. I was confused and I had no idea what I was doing (I have NO memory of my playtime with her to get her to 22).

From then, it was easier groups in regular maps, quite fun, if not a bit slow.  I'm getting more and more used to the AT and it's really, really fun!

    Thank you for your help!!

  7. @Nyghtmaire @Meknomancer Thank you for your responses. I had to reread each post a few times to get a general idea of what you meant but I think I understand most of it now.

The only thing that seems to be missing in Meknomancer's build is the KB-KD enhancement to Assault Bot.  Maybe swap it for the ATT/END of Sovereign right?

Besides that, I'm quite game to try this build! Thanks!!

i think i saw some player stat numbers recently and the population over the last 18-24 months has remained surprisingly level

I can kinda-sorta vouch for that.  Ever since I came back, I never had to look for more than a few seconds to find a good team.  Excelsior is quite lively.

  9. Hello beautiful people!

Dusting up my pretty little Robot/Time mastermind after the latest changes to Robotics and I'm at a point where I'm stumped.  My biggest problem is that I don't know or understand what are the critical objectives when making a MM build.  I know melees by heart, but these guys?  Confusion.

Here is what I have so far.  It looks proc-happy, perhaps too much.  It's also a build where I play mostly control while the robots do the work. I intend to abuse Mu's electrifying fences's -KB to help my late bots do better DPS.

Can you guys point me in a direction or twelve to help me finish this build?

    Thank you very much!

  10. Hello beautiful people!

Came back to Homecoming a few weeks ago. You know what they say. Leave because you want to try other games, come back for the travel powers. As usual, I started posting here again. I have rarely seen such a welcoming and quality game community!

I noticed that the level of activity here seems somewhat lesser than it was some 15-18 months ago.  Is it my imagination? Are the forums still alive and kicking? Is it because we have a Homecoming Discord now? (Do we even have one?)

Or are you all just preparing a secret welcome back party for me in which all my forum questions will be answered all at once?

Awww guys... you shouldn't have!  I'm embarrassed! *Kicks a capo in the knees*

Hoping this place is still thriving! I don't want another sunset, nooooooo thanks!

Keep being heroic! (Or villainous, whichever floats your SOs.)

  11. THREAD NECROMANCY!!

(It's ok, this character is /Dark so it's kind of legit. I think.)

So in the recent weeks I came back home. Can't figure out why I stopped playing. Still as fun as ever.  I'm revisiting a few characters and when it's a tank or a scrapper, I can generally get by, But this gal here, my Beast/Dark MM... wow.  I just got my jungle-butt handed to me by freaks in a x4+0 mission at level 32.  The usual: summon and upgrade pets.  Send them in. Darkest night. Tar Patch. Fearsome stare, then throw heals and summon ravens.  Then, suddenly, my blue bar is dry (the fight lasted less than 30 secs, I know, freaks and End drain) and I'm quite dead.

In the last two years, did anything change that would make this combo not good anymore?  I seem to remember people telling me it was quite ok. I do have a build to look forward to but I have no idea where I found it so I can't really decide if it's any good but for the moment, ouch, poor girl is in need of either love or permanent shelving,

    Opinions, my friends?  Thank you!

  12. Thanks again for the time you put in answering this, @drbuzzard!

    A) Agreed.  I wasn't sure what to do with Tesla Cage. I think I'll prefer a set anyways.

    B) Oh? Would it proc more often in Tesla?

    C) Food for thought, That sixth slot was for the 6% resist. Perhaps another set would do better then?  Ball Lightning is a pretty staple power after all.

    D) I don't know why I didn't do that in the first place....

    E) There I strongly disagree.  Resistance or not, Une little slot to get a whooping 3% defence against EVERYTHING is a pretty sweet deal.  Out of 100 hits, it's 3 less hits to soak and resist.

    F) I found that high level, Stam becomes less of an issue. I will be spamming the ish out of Energize and will be getting incarnates soon.  If that still doesn't work, I'll work Power Sink in.

  13. So @drbuzzard I embraced your philosophy and went all on a resistance + regen build.

Here is what I ended up with.  (Note that Hover is just for the LOTG passive, I won't be using it because: grounded)

Procs do a lot of damage.  I'm not totally sure how procs work in Tesla Cage, with its conditional chaining.  But if it were a single-target power that did as much damage as it does on base (ie, without the chains), a standard 3.5 PPM damage proc would be worth 42% damage enhancement in it, if it had no local recharge.

The reason that people who are interested in min-maxing DPS fill up attacks with 4-6 procs is that each proc is worth a lot of damage enhancement (and of course doesn't have ED concerns).

Whether that's worth the loss of set bonuses is of course a judgment call and conditional on the rest of the build.

The devs clearly stated that procs will only work on Tesla Cage's main target and not its branching targets.  So it will be something to test and see.  Enhancement Unslotters are cheap anyways 🙂

I'll try to build with Grounded in mind.  But I'm still on the fence when it comes to Defense VS resistance.  Yes, a stable 75% resistance is fun with a good stable heal, but even 25% of a really bad alpha strike is a looooooot of damage.  Damage that won't hit you if you have sufficient defence.  It's just that I'm used to working with tankers, where getting to softcap is a joke.

  15. I'm digesting it, it's interesting but the resist/defense numbers seem less advantageous than those in my build.  The Regen is twice as good but isn't regen overrated when you're not playing a purely defensive build? HP drops so fast, a +200% regen is not going to make that much of a difference. As long as you have a good punctual heal to complete your mitigation.

The other part that confuses me is Tesla Cage. I keep reading that it needs to be treated as a proc monster but it's a single target power so, really? Isn't it better to give it the advantage of a full 6-set instead of super-proccing it and hoping for the occasional RNG?

    Food for thought.

There's a build list floating around this forum where I dumped all the Sentinel builds I had up to that point. E^3 was included in that.

Yes 😄 I found it just before you mentioned it, looking at it now!  Thank you!

  17. This would be my first build attempt. I didn't put in many purples even though I have them in my base so I could modify it accordingly.

The Resistance is ok but the Def is nowhere near softcap.  Note that I don't want Sentinel to solo like my Tankers do, that's plain silly.  I just want her to hold her own if I try story missions at say, x8+2

Feel free to suggest changes. This is faaaaaaaaaar from optimal.

    A) There was a thread on charged shield recently. I suspect they just wanted a solid +10 end and leave it at that.

    B) I do the rechargeable pet set on voltaic sentinel since it gives global recharge. I build sentinels to do damage and survive, endurance drain, while a better mechanic than it was, still isn't that great. There's better sapper builds.

    C) Think I use them in thunderous blast and zapp. I imagine someone better at proc math can make a better suggestion. I don't really consider the proc effects that important or great.

    D) There's multiple different IOs for that, but I wouldn't skip grounded since it's got a few other things it can do such as immobilize protection, end drain resistance, and more negative energy resistance. I guess an efficient alternative would be combat jumping with a blessing of the zephyr KB proc.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I will definitely check that thread!

End drain is not as useless as it seems. According to patch notes, "Shocked" will do more damage to things proportionally to how little End they have left,

As for Grounded, well, I tend to jump around everywhere all the time so, it's not very reliable.  CJ (which is an essential to a happy jumper) + KB resist will do just fine.

  19. Hello beautiful people!

After a solid 18-20 months away; the lovely patch notes sang their alluring song and here I am, back home.

I have been playing this lovely Elec/Elec sent for about 28 levels now and she's fantastic but I'm having a hard time seeing the long term.  Not necessarily asking for a build here (though if anyone has one, I won't complain), as I'm trying to make one of my own, but:

    • I'm really confused by the fact that Charged Shield only takes Heal Sets, (I thought it would take End as well).
    • What's the best way to slot Short Circuit and Voltaic Sentinel? Now that the Shocked mechanic exists, it seems a good idea to pay attention to Endurance drain.
    • Where would the ATOs be best used?
    • If you skip Grounded, what's the best way to get some -KB?

You know, easy questions, for pros like you 😄

    It's good to be home!

Alternate bodies / composite.   Will be quirky no doubt.  But having alternate lower bodies (centaurs, sphinx, even the hover platform leg thing the Freak has in redside Doc Buzzsaws new arc…).  Alternate torsos.  Even harder but any options are good options.  Alternate heads.  Large Bull/Lion/Robot/brains in jar/Demonic, etc

Basically just step out from humanoid and into what is runnable….  I could even groove on running a police droid or something similar for quite a few power sets.  Hardly any animation needed. (None but the effects). Although I would prefer an Arachnos droid to a police bot….of course

Totally.  A lot of the enemy models would be awesome to play.  Mu soldiers are just one example.
