Yes true. THhhheeeeeyyyyy aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrreeeeee soooooooo lllllllooooonnnnnggggg. "Let's wave my hands around doing some nice Tai chi slow moves, for unknown reason before finally punching my target". The animations are beautiful, but dang, Kinetic melee is so slow. One cone power does a knockback so, not only, your attacks are slow, you have to move around. Worst, the cone knockback is counter productive to taunt auras that buff the player and debuff the mobs... So any combo with Kinetic Melee is not so great. Kinetic melee should be more like Donny Yen in Ip Man. His attacks are still very stylish and they are still very close to Tai chi moves, but they are fast and efficient. THAT would make Kinetic melee great and it would still fit the concept of Kinetics. But right now, it is pretty slow and the damage is not so great either.

So, at least we have our secondaries... Seems like nobody cares about control anymore. Keep in mind that, on a low-level controller (read before level 20), The ONLY powers that recharge fast enough are the single target hold and the AoE immobilize. All the rest takes a long time to recharge and is not available at every fight. At high level, it gets even worst. While your AoE holds, stuns and fear are available most of the fights, the teammates defeat the mob so fast that, by the time you try cast them, the mobs are either dead or at a silver of their health. Even worst, it you fight an AV in a TF or Trial where there are the stupid patches of death (Keyes, MoM, Apex and the like), you cannot use any hard control, like hold or immobilize, because your risk having the AV held in one of them, so Melee cannot stay there. I'm not even talking about the long casting time of many of the control patches (and their uselessness in the previously mentioned patches of death). So, often, the controller becomes just a weak defender on team. It doesn't matter if you’re toon is a dark, earth, fire, or whatever, he or she will be appreciated because he or she is either a kinetic or has a power in his or her secondaries that is -regen, at higher level. Aside Kinetics and the -regen powers, people rather have a toon as a teammate that has Clarion (which anyone can have) instead of Increase density. Nobody cares anymore about Force fields, accelerate Metabolism or the Empathy buffs, as long as someone has Ageless and/or barrier. Of course, there are rare exceptions, like it’s nice to have a patch heavy controller on the Behavioral Adjustment Facility trials, for the mid part of it, and inside the stations of TPN. Controls are also required in the Green team of an Hamidon Raid, but these are the only place I can think of where it’s really nice to have controllers in a league. From the 20s up to level 40, this is the only time controls matter, because your teammates don't kill as fast. The primaries then provide safety. If you’re doing First and Night ward content, the controller is your insurance policy against the mobs nasty debuffs. But aside of that level range: meh... At the end of the day, I have mixed feeling regarding complaints about how the controllers are playing the game. I understand the point of view of the brute and tank, but that same brute and tank must also understand where the controller is coming from.

I don't know much about mace, but I know a bit about Dark/Dark Put three slot in Stamina, the Darkety Dark Troller powers are end hungry. With that build, you will constantly run out of end. Soul absorbtion helps, but it is only great on team when there are tons of foes dead or alive, in one spot. I'd rather have the haunts than possess. The haunts do decent damages and have fear. Furthermore, you can Proc them for pet damage resist, like the Umbra beast, so you can add 20% of damage resist to all your pets that way (10% per proc). Soulbound allegiance is great for the Umbra Beast, but I would sacrifice one slot (of soulbound allegiance) for a pet damage resist. But keep the chance for build-up. Twilight grasp needs at least an accuracy (Numina's IO set has no accuracy). You have nothing to boost your tohit or and you do not have defense debuff, so you need to slot the accurate powers with at least one accuracy. Shadow field is your AoE hold. I would recommend slotting it with 6 slots, for Hold duration and recharge. There, you could slot something like the Unbreakable Constraint set Not slotting for hold duration your primary single target hold is risky, especially if you have to face more than one boss at a time. At lower lever, it will do, but later on, when more and more foes resist holds, stacking holds can keep you alive. You didn't take the Dark Servant! This pet is easily Perma and it's like having a pocket dark troller with you. It is one of the best power of Dark affinity.

If you are going the Psionic Mastery route, take Indomitable will the earliest you can, like 35 or 41. In my opinion, having Status protection is way more practical than having some additionnal defense and + recharge. When you are not mezzed, you can react. 🙂 For example, if you take it at 35, there are some of the mid level TF that you will be able to do and still have Indomitable will. Also, Mind over body is a decent shield with is nice Smashing, lethal and psionic resistance. The psionic mastery is advantageous for those tools and the fact that you do not have to rely on Clarion and experience some other nice Destiny buffs, like Ageless or Barrier. Since you pick Hasten, you will even be able to make Indomitable will perma (not taking in account -recharge you may face, obviously). I understand the choice of Stupify for Stalagmites (bonus available at lower level once examplar when atunned), but I would still highly recommand Absolute Amazement. Not only the set bonuses are stronger (at level 50), but it will make Stalagmites recharge way faster and be available as an opening for at least half of the fights, even on a steamrolling team, and all for your fights when you solo at higher difficulty settings. Stupify Proc is not meaningful enough to be really worth it as well.

Not true. My earth/kin, wich is not even 50 yet and with very minimal IOs (one full set and one proc) and mostly Origin Enhancements, has already soloed Vandal, Neuron Countess Cree and the Clockwork King, with minimal Inspiration and no temp or P2W powers. This toon hardly has any meaningfull defense. I agree that perma holding an AV would be a waste for a Controller, because there is more to that when fighting AVs. Mitigating the incoming damages (Most of them hit like a truck), dealing with the insane regen, reducing the resistance and, more importantly, dealing damages (which is already not the Controllers' Forte), among other things. The immobilize is enough to set up containment anyway, most of the time. You don't go fight an AV just like you fight a boss. You have to know what you're doing. What toggles needs to be on. What is my opening? What will be the most appropriate attacks/debuffs/buffs chain? What powers should I cast at soon at it will be available? For example, if you are fighting Mako, an Earth controller will have to cast and constantly maintain Volcanic Gasses, Earthquake and quicksands. This way, you will overcome Mako's high defense. If the same troller fight Malaise, since he can hardly dent Stoney and he has not meaningfull defenses, you don't care about that and beat the crap out of him as long as you can overcome his regen (-regen and dealing enough damages). It is good to consider that the hold attacks do give a break in the fight when the purple triangles are down. That is something to appreciate when it happens. I can't count the times my Earth/RAD was almost done for when the AV purple triangles went down . It just gave me enough time to heal, adjust and finish the fight.

Need help with Controller pairing suggestions
LynxNordique replied to hejtmane's topic in Controller
True, Stoney's taunt is no joke! The only AV that I got the attention while Stoney was alive, was Ghost Widow, because she phased shift him. Even more, I remember on a Dr Kahn TF final mission , Stoney decided to tank Vanessa Devore. The tank on the team tried to get her attention away from Stoney, but couldn't. Stoney did survive the whole fight. So, having pocket tanks, like phantom army and Stoney means less worry. -

Imo, to maximize Animated stone damages: Sovereing rights Aura + resistance for pets with 5 of the Soulbound allegiance (including the Chance for build up) This setup is good to increase the damage resistance and the damage output of Stoney. If you're fighting AV solo, he is the main source of damages. If you prefer, the whole Expedient reinforcement set is nice too, since it has a + recharge set bonus and an Aura + resistance for pets -
I agree that stalagmites is a great opening. It is one of the best earth control power, as it has a very quick animation, it recharges quite fast and it debuff defenses, obviously. This is why I never take flight on an earth controller (but this is me). If I need to fly and hover (like hami raids and shadow shards TFs), I just go log off in the shadow shards for the rechargeable jet pack. An earth controller can stand back, a bit away from the fight, as non of its significant powers are PBAoE (and can keep mobs away). Moreover, Stoney might only have single target attacks, but he likes to switch targets a lot and he has a very efficient taunt in its melee attacks. Obviously, if you have a secondary, like Kinetics, that is more efficient in melee, then you have to adjust. As far as slotting for defense debuff, an earth controller, whatever the secondary, I don't think it is worth it, as all the powers debuff defenses and you have 3 patches you can lay on the ground to help out if required.

Bonjour. 🙂

The Grav Anchor proc doesn't hit often enough and last long enough to matter that much. It's nice to have but I find the set bonuses more interesting... If you can PL your toon, do it up to level 32 instead of 28. The added damages of the Umbra beast makes soloing a lot better on a darky dark brooding controller. Soloing is really not that great before that. When I leveled mine, I did it almost exclusively by joining TF and Trials. Soloing was too painfully long and boring. Umbra beast is a good pet overall (despite the fact it is noisy), but remember to heal it from time to time, because it is not as resilient as, say, an animated stone... The added control it brings it a nice bonus. Unfortunately, a darky dark troller is best played like a good'ol scraptroller because Shadow field and soul absorbtion are Pbaoe and two powers I would definitely recommend. In fact you will have to move a bit in battle to take into consideration the Pbaoe and the cones (fearsome stare and the immobilize power that I forgot the name).

If one is a girl, the Carnies are the coolest and the most fun. They party all the time, they have the most beautiful costumes, their boss are badass and their leader cares for them (however, she does suck their soul if defeated). If there's an AV that could have a great and compelling redemption arc, it is Prime earth Vanessa Devore, considering she is a war hero and probably the mother of Penelope Yin. She shows some empathy on occasion as well. But she does kill in cold blood, get what she wants regardless of the consequences on others and animates dead men corpse to use as strongmen...

Build Request: Ill/Rad Controller - Solo Artist / AV Killer Edition
LynxNordique replied to Phlarekat's topic in Controller
Rad IS a great secondary for solo AV hunting (because of the debuff toggles, but mainly because of Lingering Radiation). Even if the AVs can resist a big chunck of LR, it is still one of the most efficient -regen in the game and a very powerfull - recharge. When you face Positron (like the Automaton Positron in Dark Watcher's arc) you do notice that pretty well 🙂 ... As a solo controller, Accelerate metabolism help the end, the damages and your recharge. EMP is a great Oh s*! button and the heal is very decent. For an Illusion solo AV hunter to work well you may have to be able, as much as possible, to have Perma Phantom Army to constantly keep the AV's attention. To my knowledge, few primary pets are able to survive long enough most AVs AoE and direct hits. PA Being invulnerable, is one of them. There is also the Earth primary Animated Stone (provided you heal it fast enough and apply the right amount of buff debuff during the fights). The thing is, unless you want to rely on temp powers or Lore Pets, one of the best strategy to defeat an AV solo for a Controller of any primary, IS to rely mainly on the primary pets to get the attention and do significant damages while you keep them alive the best you can (talking healing (for a Phatasm or any last tier primary pet) and recharging (for PA and all pets)). You have to make sure they survive long enough so you can recast them on the spot if required. Nothing worst than being alone in front of an AV and waiting for a pet to recharge.... Make sure you use whatever debuff you have and that the AV is held when the purple triangles are down (it gives you a break to evaluate the situation to readjust quickly if required and it will save your toon's life on occasion). Proc are great, but the + recharges (any type) will make sure you have your tools available when you needed them. You may have to manage your end as well. When you will start your solo AV hunting, you will find holes in your build (pay attenting at the Inspirations you are using the most). You can then fill the gaps with a respec (moving slots around), set bonuses, proc and Incarnate abilities. Damage levels of the controller being what they are, expect the fight to last quite a bit and you may have to adjust you main strategy with the different AVs. I strongly suggest a Status effect protections, like Indomitable will, Acrobatic, carrying lots of break free inspirations and/or Clarion (whatever you choose). Debuff toggles dropping = harder fight and, sometimes, you toon's defeat, for a /Rad controller in a solo AV fight. So it is hard to give a build that will fit all that. The thing is, the build is just a part and your gameplay is the other important part. -
I was quite surprised the first time I fought Silver Mantis during the Dark Watcher arc: Silver Mantis: Why can't Marshal Brass take care of this? Or Olivia? Or Dr. Aeon? No, wait. Okay, not Aeon. But why is it always me? Silver Mantis: Oh! Well, hello there, prey! (fight begin) Silver Mantis: You don't have to start slow on my account. I like it rough. (75% health) Silver Mantis: Yes! You're so... Forceful! (50% health) Silver Mantis: YES! YES! YES! (25% health) Silver Mantis: Ooooh... What a fighter... (Defeated) See you again sometime. Call me...

I have to disagree. Earth/rad Complement each other pretty well and is far from superfluous. For example, Earthquake and Radiation Infection stacks their tohit debuffs. Against certain foes and certain AV, it is efficient. You also get 3 AoE holds with Volcanic gasses, EMP and Chocking cloud. Talking of Chocking cloud, it is the set where that power makes the most sense, considering that all of earth powers debuff defense. It compensates for the power low accuracy. Also, what makes /rad still relevant is Lingering radiation, which is one of the strongest -regen power in the game and a very decent - recharge. Against AV that are faced regularly in the late game, it is very usefull, as it can be kept on an AV for the whole fight (assuming it hits). Also earth being a low damage set (except for Stoney good single target attacks) , powers like Evervating field and Accelerate metabolisme compensate a bit, by debuffing resistance and increasing damage. Also, the heal is strong enough and it recharge sufficiently fast to keep the pet alive against most AV and GM.

It seems Earth control is easily forgotten. Animated Stone is very resilient. It does decent single target damage and has taunt imbeded in its melee attacks. Against AV, It's probably one of the best pet as it helps the controller survivability, as long as you can keep it alive and debuff the regen and resistance of the AV faced. Moreover it rarely misses, as all the other earth control powers debuff defense.
