Got to recommend a scrapper, tanker, or brute here. You will want an attack set that has both solid single target damage, isn't subject to the ups and downs of being only smashing and lethal, and has decent AoE, preferably PBAoE, but any unfussy and wide-sweeping attack set will work. Spines, electric, fire, kinetics, and radiation all work well for this. You will want a defense set that doesn't need a lot of micromanagement, offers reasonable survivability. broad spectrum debuff resistance, and most importantly, some kind of endurance recovery power. This last is especially important if you choose the Brute path. Bio, Electric, and Radiation are good choices; so is Willpower if you aren't choosing the tanker (or tanking brute) path. Whether you choose a scrapper, brute, or tanker is a question for your preferred playstyle. I play many tankers because avoiding frustration is goal one for me, so I'm willing to put up with the slightly slower kill pace. My next favorite is the scrapper; you don't have to do anything to max your damage potential besides show up. Brutes add a further thing to fuss over, which is why I don't prefer them. Stalkers can also get there, but I tend to think of them as story and tip specialists rather than murder machines. The stalker's strength is the ability to complete missions very quickly by beelining to the stated objectives. They work best on a narrow range of content, and probably do better on redside missions than heroside. The oldest hero content is full of tiresome defeat alls that do not play to their strength. The most recent content is plagued with vague and uninformative maps and constantly moving goalposts. They also tend to work better when fully levelled.

I always add at least one or two team friendly features to my characters. Many are tanks or built to tank. My regen scrapper is not tanky at all, but she is a stealthist with recall and all the team and mission teleporters. My stalker is of course a stealthist with recall; and also runs leadership toggles. So do my blasters, usually; both are stealthists and teleporters, and one is a sapper as well, focused on debuffs.

I have a Kinetic Melee/Rad scrapper, and the crits and procs (both sets are easy to turn into 'proc monsters') all work fine. If you're going Willpower I'd suggest Scrapper. On a Brute you may be expected to tank, and Willpower's weaker taunt aura puts you at a disadvantage holding aggro. How big a disadvantage that is tends to vary by playstyle. On a Scrapper those expectations go away, although the Kin/Rad can tank in a pinch. Provoke is just a free power pick of something else.

I am always happy to take whoever is available. All tanker, all blaster, all controller task force runs are all things I have participated in and are quite feasible, especially since the TFs that usually get run this way are the 35+ ones. There are some caveats to this. The Kahn TF benefits strongly from having a full time debuffer. You probably do want a tanker or a very tanky brute for Ms. Liberty and Lord Recluse. On the other hand, all of the melee ATs will pretty much have to be carried by the rest of the team on the Apex TF.

I have a sudden hankering to roll a Brite.

I have an electric/electric blaster who was in fact my first level 50 blaster. I play the character as a defender. Her whole shtick is endurance drain and everything is slotted for that.

Fire Armor/Energy Melee tanker. Fire armor is an offense oriented defense set. It relies for its survivability on its click heal, which is reasonably fast recharging; but out of the box and without extensive set bonuses you're going to need it often. Energy melee is a weak attack set, deliberately worsened by animation lag; some of them take almost five seconds to play. This was done deliberately back in the old game, not only to handicap the set, but also to make it impossible for players to build around its limits. During those long animations your self heal is unavailable.

I never did much with Virtueverse since my mains were almost all on Victory. How is that working now? is it concentrating on Everlasting characters?

There's a forum thread dedicated to sharing them. Don't think there are any Homecoming specific wiki sites for sharing character bios and background like there was at Ouroboros Portal.

I did log in. I took Heraclea to Atlas Park, and said goodbye to all who was assembled and thanked them for playing the game with me. But I could not bear to stay online until the server went down. I did not want my last memory of the game to be 'Lost Connection to Mapserver'. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about that day. I uploaded my bases to Paragon Chat. I discovered that I could not bear to look at them, with all the tables filled with enhancements I couldn't access for powers I couldn't use. My health is not what it was seven years ago. I honestly don't know how much time is left for me. But I am truly thankful to have had this opportunity to revisit the City that housed the only MMO I ever truly enjoyed.- 26 replies

This is Heraclea's current live build. Softcapped defense with one mob in range, and resistance to S/L well over the cap. This build also concentrates on having as much endurance as possible, rather than recharge. Slotting for Gauntleted Fist is slightly eccentric but done in furtherance of that goal. Don't know why anyone would ever sell any purple recipe, even one they can't use, when they can craft it (max possible cost 3m inf) and then run rarity conversions until it turns into something useful.

How do I enhance my character for lower level content?
Heraclea replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I have a fairly large pile of catalysts sitting in a salvage rack. Using them for ATOs is a given, of course, but the pace of acquisition of ATOs is always going to be outpaced by the catalysts incoming. I usually try to play a bit on my DPS 50s every day and swap when a catalyst drops. So the other use I make of catalysts is to turn that level 40 Miracle: Recovery into something a level 17 character can slot, and so forth. -
This has happened to me more than once as well, and been happening for a good long time. He no shows when the mission is far away from any point guarded by police drones. Mostly annoying because other players besides the TF team like to come beat on him and claim a few merits. I did find it amusing when Eochai spawned in Steel Canyon during Halloween and Positron and Valkyrie started wailing on him.
-
Since every level 50 character can have at most two catalyzed ATO sets, the main other use I make of catalysts is to turn that level 50 Numinas or Performanc Shifter into something that can be slotted by a levelling character. You have to equip them on a max level character before they can be catalyzed, so you catalyze theirs, unslot that one, and replace it with the new one while handing off the catalyzed version to the lowbie.

How do I enhance my character for lower level content?
Heraclea replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I never played a crab, even in the old game, but I did have a widow who never would have been my first choice for lower level content, if only because she was heavily invested in recharge buffs. Designing a character to play lower level content begins with power selections. There are defense sets like Regen that (IMO) play like a dream in under-30 content but start to struggle the closer you get to the endgame. Fire and Regen are the armor sets I'd recommend to lowbie content players. Everything in Fire that directly keeps you alive is available by level 12 on a tanker. Generally speaking, resistence and regeneration do better low than high; in the upper levels defense takes charge. Defense sets are often strongly dependent on set bonuses that disappear when exemped. Resistance based sets rely more heavily on self-heals, and that works better the more basic your attacks are. The other thing you want in your lowbie build is an endless pool of endurance. Slot Miracle and Panacea at 17, slot Numina and Performance Shifter at 27. Burn some catalysts to max their availability. If you are building around set bonuses, take a serious look at the ones that peter out at 30 or 35. There are some very good ones there: Kinetic Combat is a mainstay, it maxes out at 35, and most of my level 50s slot several. Catalysts, again, get the max spread out of your set enhancements with bonuses you rely on. When you're buying with merits, dial down the slider to the target level and take a look at what's there. Never slotted up a crab so I don't know what they take. -
