Heh, the person who wrote the code did not last long, and in fact, it was so bad, the original team didn't TOUCH the editor again. Once you learn the controls, it gets easier, at least, it seems that way for most. I think if you enjoy creating things, the editor is a bit of a learning curve, but it won't slow you down for long. If you're not really into making things and just want a base, dang it, it's cumbersome and extra annoying. We creative types will take the trade that's made of automation for flexibility, every time. In other words, the editor won't do a lot for you, but you can do a lot with it (once you learn the system). It's really surprising what we can do with it, especially now, but base building (sadly) was never a primary goal in this game, and so it was never a focal point in development. So it's never going to be like Sims or other games that prioritize building, but honestly, if you learn the commands, it WILL get easier as you work with it. I agree, the arcane beacons are very unclear, but I almost always bury mine in the floor and use words or symbols to show where a teleporter goes, so, doing things that way, it makes no difference what the beacons look like. If you want to display the beacons, you can always use the tiny alphabet letters and write the destination on the beacon. And I think without ctrl/z, a LOT of us would be throwing things. ๐

That's so cute! Love the flying ship, too. Maybe you can show it off in a Showcase; likely it will fit "Other", unless you want me to retro add it to tech (it seems to have a mix, so "other" would prolly be best). WIP (work in progress) is welcome in a showcase, it's not competitive. But, it would have to be listed in the directory (which also supports listing as a WIP). That's so people can find it and see what it's about! (Someone may be looking for a base just like yours!) Since great builds can be found on all the shards, the directory is a way we can connect the community, and also, make sure people can find our bases. ๐

Great motorcycle! Rest of base too, of course, but I really appreciate created items ๐ I hope you've entered this, or will, in the directory! ๐

Add to this: <esc> to let go of something like you never grabbed it. Especially handy for storage, because there is no undo for that. Hold control to keep things on the same level/height they are currently while moving an item. Hold shift when tabbing to select the item behind the item you're clicking on. Put your character near the item you wish to select and hit tab, will usually select that item within a few tabs. Hold control when you want to select the base section, not the items in front of them. Get rid of flicker by disabling anglesnap, then angling the offending piece on the shortest or least noticeable direction possible, for the smallest amount of movement possible (it usually will move the item twice as far as the minimum, on the first try, so keep that in mind). Surface tiles are a great tool for building on multiple levels, or for placing items at a particular height repeatedly. Surface towers are all seen as one big floor by the editor, so you can put things at whatever height you wish with a tower, then use control to move it over to where you want to have it stay. Glass Windows don't make anything disappear. Glass dividers, sometimes do. And they have stripes, where glass windows do not.

Hi, welcome to HC's City of Heroes/Villains, where base building can mean infinite possibilities. You don't even have to use the entry room as the entry room. Make new rooms. Build above or below the rooms. Open up the rooms and the sky and disguise the outer walls. Build several levels inside the base. Or make the base look nothing at all like how it started. The bad news on that score is, it's not an automated system that will do it for you, and there aren't panels or pieces that automatically insert a reasonably sized door into the path a "door" makes by blocking off the rest of the opening, you'd have to build that, and there aren't any pieces that automatically match the textures and styles the base itself has. In the pinned topics in Base Building here, you will find This has print and video resources for you. I recommend using whichever works best for the way you absorb information. There's an in game Base Building channel you can join from Options while in edit mode in a base, or /chanjoin Base Building in game, and there's a Base Builder's Discord, see my signature for a link to that. I'd suggest you look through some bases in the directory, or better yet, stroll through a few in the Arcane/Fantasy Showcase going on currently, to see some of what's possible. (The Tech options are still up from the last showcase, as well). To get those codes, visit one of the Tour Hubs: Everlasting: TOUR-33691 Excelsior: TOUR-30788 Indomitable: TOUR-11167 Reunion: TOUR-9105 Torchbearer: TOUR-14480 If you'd like to build a basic storage base and learn the controls and such for the basics, you might try this video: https://youtu.be/yIJNMblvA8s If you're looking to do something more grand, there are lots of other videos as well, and there are some tours.
-
And...this is why I've done so many videos.

We are live with the Showcase!! Check out the Tour Hubs for a list of all the bases: Everlasting: TOUR-33691 Excelsior: TOUR-30788 Indomitable: TOUR-11167 Reunion: TOUR-9105 Torchbearer: TOUR-14480 Tour hubs have macros to help with base hopping from inside of one base onto the next! (Note: if you already made the macro last time, there is new information to automatically set visscale! Edit it to add the new information, please!) And please, don't forget to make a comment! Lots of the bases from last tour got comments in the directory, so keep an eye on the guestbook.

@DawL ! Look what you inspired. @Easter Bunny and @Matsiyan spent all afternoon revamping the front page to make it easier to navigate. I think it looks terrific! The tabs are all still at the bottom, too, but these links are easier to see.
-
So...I'm a bit confused. Should I note that flight is helpful on the hub listing, or not?
-
Okay, problem solved ๐ Sometimes it's hard to see that there are tabs at the bottom of the page for the different servers and bases and the guestbook, one tab just for looking up a specific base...it's all there, but if you can't see it because your toolbar is covering it, kind of hard to find if you're not familiar with it. So, note to all, check the tabs at the very bottom of the window on the directory. Thanks!
-
DM'ing you DawL, to figure out the problem
-
You might want to put up a sign to that effect in the entry ๐ I know you're good at thematic signs!
-
Thanks, Sp3ctr4l! So...could you please add more info to the Excelsior directory listing, it's very bare bones, and the Reunion listing doesn't have the whole sg name. Which, I can correct if that's the only thing, but I thought maybe you'd want to check to make sure that the listings say what you want them to say? There's a tab where you can look up your base to see what it already says. Thanks so much!!
-
THAT is an AWESOME MAP!

Another Showcase! Non-competitive, all welcome, including past winners. If your base fits the theme, please let people see it! WIP (work in progress) also encouraged to enter. Dates: May 11-May26 Entered bases must also be listed in the directory, so people can find more information on them, and plus, so they can find them later, and make comments on them if they wish. Please make sure your base is listed according to your wishes in the directory. Enter bases with this format, please: Server/Shard: Base Name: Code: Builder Global In Game (Or the global you'd like comments sent to): Other players, either partner builders or owners: Special considerations: "Fly is helpful", "WIP", or list the consideration needed As before, and especially if you are in the showcase yourself, please visit bases, PLEASE send builders comments, we all like to hear things about the base we've worked so hard on. Please keep in mind, base builder abilities vary, but everyone has put a lot into their work. Tour hubs have been set up for your convenience. All the codes are listed, along with macros to help hop from base to base, and the hubs also list the builder globals to send comments to. It's recommended that exhibitors put up a sign that reminds people you would like to hear from them, and where they should send any comments on the base. SG issues, recruiting, storage, retention, socializing, teaming
Dacy replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Some people put it in the MOTD of the sg so it doesn't get lost. But it's the same number as before, so remaking it won't hurt anything. Also, put it into the directory, then you can look it up if you lose it. ๐ -
Thanks folks, I really appreciate the support and kind words. I have to admit, I've said too much of late. I realize I should have disengaged. I very much want to be inclusive and understanding, and when someone is upset and leaves, I feel bad, and I feel like what I tried to say wasn't understood as intended, and so likely I should not have said it. Even when interactions with someone are frustrating to me, that doesn't mean I want them to go away. We are human and we all make mistakes, and understanding that about one another makes this a better place. ๐ I want you to know, each and every one of you are important, and important to me, and I enjoy helping anyone who needs it. That being said, I'm seeing my face too much in this topic on the table of contents, so am going try to back off a bit and let the others who are capable, shine more. Still here, just a bit less obviously, I hope. ๐ The easiest way to get a fast response from me will always be on Discord, anyway. Seriously, the support and kind words keep me going! Thank you from my heart.

Oh, I did not think it was a slight ๐ It was just inaccurate. To me, "retired", first of all, implies inactivity in that job, and I'm not inactive; I'm doing what they said they wanted me to do. Second of all, and less importantly, it implies I took that action and left, and I did not. There really isn't a short way to sum it up, but retired, to me, wasn't it! ๐ And I did ask for something different, actually, but was told that the only choices were "retired" or nothing, and having publicly stated that I didn't want to be titled as retired, I felt I had to let others know why the change, and that it was intended as an honorific. And also, Easter Bunny rather liked it. So we came to an agreement on what worked for all of us.
-
Thanks, after talking it over with various people, EB and I decided to accept in the spirit it was intended, as an honor, and just modify our sigs a bit to explain that it's not a "sit back and do nothing" sort of retirement. ๐
-
Sigh. Okay, message not received. https://tenor.com/view/modern-family-eye-roll-sigh-gif-12685020 I dunno, you're the one that said you weren't the intended audience, a couple of times in different places, so thought that's how you saw yourself. But okay. Have a good one.
-
@GM Crumpet? Do you know how "Retired Community Rep" got put with my name? It wasn't there last I looked. Could that be taken down, please? I did not retire. ๐ Unofficially, we're still doing things, and "retired"...well, just doesn't encapsulate the situation, you know? ๐ Thanks!
-
@ZacKing, I take you at your word. You don't mean to have come across as you have, and you bear no animosity. Honestly, I don't bear any towards you, either. I think @PeregrineFalcon has summed it up succinctly and in a positive way. And I think perhaps you just approach things differently, but since that's not being as well received as you intend in this instance, just trying to point out how it's coming across and feeling on this side so you can see it from a different perspective. If you wish to delve into how many bases we have and of what types and what the size of the base community really is and what their level of interest is in any specific topic, perhaps starting your own topic would be a good idea? But here, I think your arguments, on the heels of seeing the CRs dissolved and the base dev retire, started to sound a lot like "the base community isn't important or even really active, and CRs were never needed anyway". If you were part of that community, you might start to feel a bit attacked, you see. And part of what I pointed out is, you have said you are "not the intended audience", essentially disassociating yourself with the base building community, and yet, you keep coming into topics and arguing about different points like it's your focus in life. It's not that you can't or shouldn't talk about base stuff, it's that the arguments veer off into other areas and you introduce new elements to the debate, and that effectively "moves the goalpost" of the argument, which not only hijacks the thread, but perpetuates the argument. That begins to look like you're just there to argue, and that tactic is called the "strawman". From what you've said, I'm thinking that's not intentional on your part, but it nevertheless can rile people. And it starts to build you a reputation that you've clearly run into. (When I use the word "argument" here, and you say, but I'm not arguing, I am referring to the fact that you are presenting counter points to what was being talked about. That -is- an argument, especially when you go and find facts to support it.) It got what I termed "tiresome" to me because, every topic where you have come in, you have argued against whatever position I had taken . That started to feel purposeful. It certainly lets me know that we are unlikely to agree on many things. And that's okay. I don't need people to agree, but I will say I do not like arguments that just keep going. (And also, thanks for responding here, but the arguments have not all been just from you, and I know that.) I hope this explains what I'm seeing, and I hope you can understand this side of things. I will try and view you through your perspective, as well.

As I said in the beginning, this wasnโt about getting the title back. First I was informing people of the changes, and then, on a related note, I was proposing that some changes to how homecoming operates might be beneficial to the organization. The fact that this became about your questions and CRs, and whether or not blue titles are needed, and then further, into arguments about the qualities of bases, and the interest or lack thereof in the community for building and contests, is a testament to how your arguments changed the topic. Weโve had several interactions by now, and Iโve seen you commenting in other places as well. Perhaps you donโt realize how your approach to things impacts the topics you decide to wade into. In both of the other topics in base building, the focus of the post was changed and became about something else entirely. My objections are not about โnegativityโ. Lifting the title has lifted some weight of responsibility, and honestly, I doubt that the CR role can come back unless some of the changes I mentioned are made. The title itself was something I had to be talked into and isnโt important to me, but the work we did because of that role, is. Love to all, I appreciate the support and affirmation, and I know Easter Bunny does, too. โค๏ธ Thank you!
