  1. Been a goth since 1991. I've done the Bride of Dracula look way back in 1995, in fact it was my go to club style for almost a year. I had this blood Red lace dress and pink wig I wore. Yeah I even mixed my own blood in vodka and drank it, more for the scare the normies than anything reasons. Also I saw your list of "What is not Goth" while I agree EMO is not goth, most of the rest of what you said is false. Both in definition, and musically Gothic Rock is a Post Punk Music Scene that started in the late 70s and early 80s based on Horror Fiction themes mixed with Rock, Punk, and Jazz themes. While today people divide the music more than we did back then, it all started in the same place, hells even EMO came out of the same scene, but they are very subtlety different than a goth. 'A goth sees how terrible the world is and makes jokes and laughs, an EMO sees how terrible the world is and hates themself. ' - paraphrased expression that went around the Goth Scene in the 90s.
  2. tuppence post: Ah since moving back to the UK I have not been able to stay awake long enough to do a fashion contest. I feel rather bad since I really enjoy it. Especially the subject matter under debate right now. So a bit about me first. I'm an old as dirt Beta COH player who in the early 90s discovered Gothic music in the military. I dove hard into the London Goth Scene (1992~1994) I moved to the USA at that time and became a regular in the Los Angeles and Long Beach Ca, goth scene. I even helped run a few Industrial Nights around 2001. I've seen Most Goth Bands Live in Concert including Bauhaus. I am currently wearing a goth tee and listening to a goth playlist of over 10k songs. The "What is Goth?" debate is older than I am. I think of it as several things at once which all have overlap. Gothic or Goth is an old Germanic word that means God, and was applied to one of several Germanic Christian Tribes famous for the sacking of Rome, and building Churches across Europe. Which is why they got called "Gothic" or "Of God". The Churches however caused something to happen, the stylings and artistic design of those churches became an acritical style associated with Christian Churches built between 400ce and 1900ce. Some of these old Churches became settings for scary stories, and horror and science fiction of the late 19th century. Which is why books became called Gothic Horror. Move forward into the modern era and films made about those gothic horror stories became known as gothic Film, aka Dracula, Frankenstein etc. Fast forward to the Rock era, and music personalities started leaning into Horror fiction, this was an early form of Gothic Rock however a puritan Goth would disagree. Then came the 70s and Puck Rock, a subgroup of Musicians in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Germany started taking Punk Rock and applying gothic styles based on 50s and 60s classic rock that had a gothlike sound. Then in the mist of this Post Punk music scene a Band from Northampton made a song poking fun of their audience. Bela Lugosi's Dead... and the term Goth forever got applied to the Dark Post Punk movement. Note Bauhaus was not the first band, but they were the ones that caused the term to stick for both the music and clothing style. As Punk Rock was just as much a fashion scene as it was a music scene. So in short Goth is: Tribe of Germans, Old Churches, A style of Fiction (Sci-Fi and fantasy Horror), early dark pop music, Dark Post Punk Music (The most famous type), Fashion, and even fine arts like painting. And thanks' to Aurelio Voltaire comedy music, and thanks to Jhonen Vasquez comic books and a cartoon. So while I am staunchly a fan of Old Post Punk Gothic music and have been called the "Gothic Shark" since 1997 I see goth as many things, and I like new interpretations of the gothic style. Now let me listen to ASF in peace "Now I feel Zombified"
  3. Geez not cool. There are ways to make a productive comment. This was not it. If I were you I would edit the comment and try and be nicer about it. Lauci is basically a one woman show, running events in her free time because she loves this game. She gains no profit from this activity, and has earned the respect from most of the community because of it. Being hostile to someone loved by a community is not away to get ahead in that community.
  4. I remember those names... and maybe some RP, although I was usually just background.
  5. I have so many thoughts on this. This makes me so very happy, and so very old, I was like 33 when this came out officially in 2004, and yes I prepurchase, reserved name, and got in on Beta. Got the tee shirt and collectors box too. Had the comics for a time as well. I might even have that hero click and PVP comic still.
  6. The "unofficial Roleplay" server is Everlasting. Not 100% of us play there, but any who still want the RP probably at least hang out there at times. edit, my dyslexia and copy & paste got me. gah. Sometimes I wish dyslexia wasn't a thing.
  7. Showing support for our Non-Binary Pals.
  8. I voted for you. I thought the look was great, it was simple, fit the theme, and conveyed your hero properly. I'm often a fan of simple easy to understand looks. So you were on the top of my list.
  9. I fully support this event. I have entered many, and recently even joined CW because My Keldian needed a home other than my guild of self. I am looking forward to Friday, and may or may not be able to join. Depends on my work/post work spoons.
  10. Thank you for finding this. I found myself: https://forumarchive.cityofheroes.dev/profile/Mariel_Martog
  11. Currently joking on Discord about dense Egg mechanics. aka The Masculine Desire to play an Elvin Sorceress in Elder Scrolls. (1st person RPG)
  12. Yeah... well, I understand that. One can say I never was a guy...dude, etc. But I pretended to be one IRL all the time. BTW User name was my old character (well my main, I had bad altism, still do https://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Guardian_Angels <- Old Supergroup
  13. One of the dumbest plot lines from any Superhero film ever, and has been fully been proven to be impossible. 1: The crust is thicker on Mountain Ranges, California is almost entirely Mountain Range. 2: The San Andreas Faultline is a Continental Transform Fault, ie two plates that move side to side, as apposed to a Subduction Zone ie Japan. You can Sink one side of a Subduction Zone, but a Transform Fault actually moves the Ocean away from the Faultline and adds new land mass. ie India. 3: The energy released from a Nuclear Explosion, even the Tsar Bomb (largest detonated ever) is still less than a typical Hurricane. 4: If the Ice caps Melted and all land locked Ice melted (which will happen due to Global Warming/Climate Change) the Oceans will rise slightly over 230 feet or 70 meters. Most of California would be unaffected, hells most Of Los Angeles would be unaffected. the Arizona California Border would however gain a small inland sea, as that area is mostly below Sea Level. So Melting Artic and Antarctic Ice would be easier than trying to Sink a Mountain Range. 5: The US has exploded many Large Nuclear Devices underground in Nevada, near major fault lines BTW, and nothing happened. As the energy needed to trigger a small Earthquake is more than the energy released in a Hurricane. If you wanted to Sink the Mountain range that is California, You would have to Crack the Earth in a way that would kill all the life on the planet, and would require an object larger than the Dinosaur killing meteor.
  14. Already been proven scientifically impossible, it would be easier to sink Oklahoma than California, due to crust thickness and the type of fualtline. In fact So Cal went almost 20 years without any major fualtline activity
  15. Well... Honestly. I think if my life in that world was anything like it is in this world, I would have ended up with a superpowers, instead of a life long disability. So odds are I would be one of my Characters I currently have in game. I would probably live in a house with Roommates, although I kind of Prefer the West Coast over the East Coast, So ... yeah, odds are I would not be in Paragon or the Rogue Islands. I would instead be a minor Super Hero in California.
  16. Well... theme, "work in progress at the moment." hedge maze. TDL, portals at the end of each dead end. Easter eggs along all the wrong paths, so it doesn't feel like a wrong path, as much insanity as I can fit in a super base. Be gay, very gay. Putting the code up here and now so I don't forget it. Leaky memory and all. code: BEGAYDOCRIME-20601 Yes, my life motto. The base is on Excelsior, the SG is also my FC in FFXIV "Lilac Foxes" it was created as a trans cat girl FC. Now it's an FC and SG of 1. Me.
  17. edit nevermind.
  18. Hello... Mariel Martog from Virtue, I use to hang out in the RP community on Virtue, while my Roommate and friends were all Hard Core. Here is a picture of Virtue RP players in Orange County. I'm in this picture (not saying who, as I'm a trans woman and look nothing like that person any more) --- Also had lots of Characters: Mariel Martog - Main (Kat/Scrap) ((my overly cringe RP Wiki page https://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Mariel_Martog I feel I should edit it... but I wont.)) Malkavian Who (Warshade) Irken (Controller & Arachnos Soldier) I had more but I don't remember all the names, many of which were silly. ie Catmando, Cheddar Cheese
