  1. I want to come back to something that keeps coming up:  brute ATOs being the worst invention set known to humankind.

I find that opinion interesting, since they do sell very well.  Is this hatred based on the set bonuses, or the procs?  Because the set bonuses look like the best in melee class.

If it's the procs, well, it's hard to compete with the massively powerful trio that are tanker, stalker, and scrapper ATO procs.

Great stats and unneeded procs v. good stats and critically necessary procs?  Sounds like a trade-off.

  2. I think that, like anything, where we are depends on how we got where we are.  Today, there are different parties with different motives and agendas that there was a decade ago.

And that's cool.  Since the code is now available, if not strictly legally available, there is nothing to stop anyone with the desire and the knowledge of the code to reprogram and launch a version of CoX that meets their specific requirements.

Personally, I'm happy enough to let other people manage this version, since it is in no way in my best interests in terms of time or effort or whatever for me to launch my own server.

  3. Well, why do you play, for example, Scrabble(tm)?

I think some reasons could be:

    1.  You enjoy playing the game.

    2.  You like getting better at it as you play.

    3.  You want to win.

    4.  You want your opponent to lose.

    5.  You want your ranking to increase.

    6.  You make a good living off the professional Scrabble(tm) circuit.

    7.  You enjoy solving the problem of coming up with the best play off any given rack.

    8.  It's an enjoyable pastime to share with other people.

9 to a much higher number than 9:  other

EDIT:  I'm mostly 1,2,7,8.  But I'm not going to begrudge anyone profiting off the professional circuit!

I keep finding that Intuition is my usual pick for most everything ranged.  Intuition Radial is so good for range ATs, Damage and Range bonuses, Hold duration is ok, Slow and ToHit Debuff are common secondary effects.  Honestly I'm usually taking it for the Damage and Range buffs, especially since I frequently skip slotting power range.  Intuition also paira extremely well with Cryonic Judgement, giving it more power, a longer cone range and a longer hold on the radial tree.

Intuition is, well I can't call it sneaky good because it's listed there in the description exactly what it does, but just plain good.  And not just for ranged.  Broadsword/katana, dark melee, ice melee, radiation melee, spines, and that's just the attacks.

I don't want my point missed, its that defense debuff resistance is unnecessary in my opinion. It is discussion, so someone may have a different opinion. Not claiming to be an expert. If anyone can enlighten me as to the benefit of defense debuff resistance I am open to it. I am no expert.

Defense debuff resistance is important enough that you can find in short order many many many posts asking for more defense debuff resistance in both sets that have it and sets that don't.

The weird thing is that after you reported that a while back, I triple checked the sound files, the fx files, everything for glowies and they are all *identical* to the original files from live.

So either it changed sometime before shutdown or something else is going on. Are you sure you didn't have a sound mod installed at some point or anything like that?

I can’t remember how things were on Live, but there also seem to be different categories of glowies.  Some make (relatively) loud noises, some make quieter noises, some make no noise at all.

    no sound mods

  7. I guess this suggestion is about getting merit rewards for Ouro story arc completion, since you are still getting xp and/or inf for individual missions?

There are always repeatable missions (paper/radios, contacts that give infinite missions, etc.) but those don't give specific merit rewards.  And unless you have already played out all your contacts for a given level range, you can always abandon a "real" story arc and come back to it without losing progress.  But I'm sure you know that.

I have no idea how the Ouro system is programmed, but yes, it would be more generous if it counted as one of your active missions rather than as a TF.  You can make the same argument for AE missions.  Conceptually, I can see how making them separate makes sense thematically -- you are reliving an experience, or playing a game, that is different from your "real world" experience.  But again, i have no idea if Ouro or AE *can* be reprogrammed differently.

    Interesting thought experiment though.

Thank you very much for posting this (I know it was a while ago).  I've started an MA/Elec Armour Scrapper and I've been struggling to find a Mids build showing how to slot for Elec Armour.  Would be nice if it was MA specific but I'll take what I can get 🙂

    How about this?

  9. Here's how I'm looking at it:

New tradeable item?  Absolutely I'm interested, both in terms of figuring out how others are going to use it and how I can solve the puzzle and get some rewards in the form of profit.

Where does it come from?  Advanced TFs?  Ok, those are relatively hard and time consuming.  Weekly TFs?  Ok, much less so.  2% drop on every mission?  That's a-lotta missions.  So probably a little less common than, say, rare salvage?

What is it used for?  Non-unique costumes?  That's essentially meaningless to me, so I would have to rely on it being meaningful to others.  New badge?  I'm not really a badger but I can see the case for it.  I'd think that getting 50 to drop over the course of a month would be reasonable in normal play.  New interface for new badge?  I haven't looked into it, but I can imagine it would be useful.

Absolutely a net seller of these things.  Right now they are useful for things that are mostly irrelevant to me, and if I got stuck with, say, a few thousand of them it would be a terrible waste of my time and effort.  Can I sell any I get to drop to someone who seems to value them more?  I sure hope so.  But I'm not planning on hoarding a stash.

Someday they may use them for something useful, so I'll watch for signs of that.

  10. To be clear, I am looking for whatever single combination I hope to settle on eventually.  The whole process of 4-member groups was really just to cut down playing 12 primaries and 12 secondaries while I try to figure out what will work best for me.  The final choice could be one of the 12.  Or it could be Kinetic Melee/Regeneration.  Most likely it will be somewhere in between.  One never knows, does one?

  11. Oh, it's on.

Good day everyone!  For those who haven't read my earlier threads on this topic, good for you!  They were awful.

Anyway, I am seeking my Forever Scrapper.  One that I can keep playing long past level 50 and not get bored.  One I can Ouro back and play as much content as I wish.  Outbreak/Breakout/Outout/Breakbreak to incarnate trials.  I've played a bunch of scrappers, and many of them to 50 and beyond, but none of them really excite me enough to want to make them my "main."  My first character, both on Live and HC, was my namesake BS/Inv scrapper, and he's probably come the closest.  But I want more, and I want your help.

First of all, let's get to the contest part.  My previous threads weren't really a contest, more of an excuse to gain some knowledge and give away a lot of inf.  I'm still going to do the latter part, but let's make this a true contest.  Tell me what you think *my* forever scrapper will be (Primary/Secondary) and when I decide, I will give that lucky winner 5bn inf.  If there are consolation prizes, and there probably will be, I will decide later how many and how much they will be for.  On the one hand, only the first person will get the prize, so guessing early is to your advantage.  On another hand, I haven't figured out by a long shot what it is yet, and I will periodically post updates as to what my play experience has been, what I like and what I don't, so that will give you and me more information if you wait a bit.  Each person gets one pick, but in order to avoid perfidy, you cannot edit your pick after you make it.  If you end up editing your post, then I will not consider it a valid entry and you'll need to make a different post.  Not that I would suggest any of you fine folk would do that, but I just want to keep things clean and on the up-and-up.

There are only two outcomes that will not result in a payday:  if I default back to my BS/Inv (unlikely), or if I decide that there isn't a forever scrapper in the cards for me.  In that case, I'll divvy up prizes to all participants.

Secondly, I've been using this as a way of gathering and sharing a bunch of knowledge.  I've now got three groups of four scrappers, each with different primaries and secondaries.  For each group I will:  play all four to level 50 (probably solo at double xp through similar content), cut two, run the other two into alpha incarnate tier 4 (and alpha only), cut one, then run the last character to all T4 incarnates.  I will periodically document my experiences, but I will do it in spoilers so that I won't bore any one who isn't interested.  Here are the three groups:

    The "also-rans":

    Savage/Stone

    Stone/Electric

    Street Justice/Fiery Aura

    Radiation/Ice

    Group A:

    Dual Blades/Bio

    Broadsword/Radiation

    Energy Melee/Ninjitsu

    DM/Invulnerability

    Group B:

    War Mace/Energy

    Martial Arts/Shield

    Claws/Super Reflexes

    Staff/Dark Armor

All of these have names, costumes, and backstories I like, which is important!  I've played most of the primaries and most of the secondaries before.  Maybe the final answer will be one of these 12.  Maybe it will be some other combination of powers.  Maybe it will be one of the powersets that aren't even included!  I don't know yet!

As for what I like, I want to enjoy the animations, the relative power (doesn't have to be world-beating, but good enough to solo almost anything solo-able), synergies, etc.  I think of mitigation in five categories:  defense, resistance, healing, knockdown, mez effects (not necessarily in that order).  I like quirky fun stuff.  You'll get a good feel from my commentaries, I'm sure.

Thirdly, I'm always looking for a way to give away inf.  If you are looking to receive some, and you have some knowledge to give (maybe it's a trick you developed, maybe a fun build idea, whatever), I'm happy to share.  Two requirements:  please provide *something* of interest; and please put your in-game global name or "I want inf!" or the equivalent in your post.  I will try to make payments on this part periodically rather than at the end.  These gift amounts will be at my discretion, but I think you will find I am a generous creature.  I'm hoping that *anyone* looking to learn something new or interesting will walk away from this thread happy.

This is not a short endeavor, since I need to play through (at least) 12 characters to crown a winner.  Please bear with me!

Thanks in advance, good luck, and happy hunting!

    @Yomo

EDIT:  Entries so far for the overall winner of primary/secondary:

  12. It would be inhumane to not allow mez protection, so I'm allowing Obsidian Shield so long as I don't enhance the psionic resistance.  And I'm not counting Siphon Life as a heal right now, since that doesn't suit my purposes...

The thing is...there are challenges, where a character has a fair chance. And then there's something like this suggestion...lol, I'll pass.

Challenge accepted.  I'm going to have to think about what powers count.  Initially thinking a Dark/Dark/Soul brute.

  14. I think it is always nice to have options and tools, but I agree with a lot of people above that players are going to need to want to lead teams, to recognize that the reason they don't currently want to lead teams is because they are not familiar enough with how it works, and then to go through the actual process of remedying it.  We can provide the tools, but we can't change their nature.  We can only help them execute on their desire for personal change.

For me, if I am doing something I am not overly familiar with, I will start a team and let people know from the outset that it's not a speed run and that I'm not super familiar with it and ask if they are ok with that.  Seems to work for me.
