It's essential to reset your binds before loading the new ones. It can also help to delete the null lines in the GABS file. The base bindfile is a fair number of lines short of the maximum, so only that extra 'crud' will trip the warning. And of course, yes, if you are using this on a keyboard with different key arrangement, you will need to change the base binds in the COMMON file to suit your layout. Since those changes are base or permanent, don't try to do it by overwriting them with the alt file. Adjust the base binds to suit your language layout, keyboard layout, anything that's fixed for your usage and system.

CAN WE FIX: The Naga/Razer Tray?
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Ugh, hadn't noticed that... and it's a hard bind. Reloading regular binds and such doesn't overwrite those, so you use the Razer tray as Tray 1 or nothin'. Never mind, I guess. Nice feature of almost no use, but it's probably too hardwired to all the junky settings to be made useful. -
It occurs to me that both Atlas and PD could use a really tiny, cute lil' farm, about 6x6. We could give the coordinates to the spam farmers.

Best Macro Builds with a Nostromo PC Gaming Keypad?
Shenanigunner replied to Filmgrouch's topic in Guides
My impression over the years is that CoX is just so resolutely WASD that almost no controller solution brings even equivalent "ease," much less any improvement. Those keybutton/mouse controllers, though, were pretty much designed for this era of game, so... if you're willing to put in the time, it could be an asset, or at least 'different.' I point you to the Technical Guide (www.Shenanigunner.com) for all the current possibilities that can be bound to keys, including some very tricky multistage binds that can multiply that keyset. What you assign to the keypad, and for what alts... that's on you. -
A tablet is good for about 2-3 days of use if you're careful. The Kindle Paperwhite readers have crazy battery life, often a month or more of light daily use. Which will make the ads and the disappearado books all the nicer, I guess. 🙂
-
This is a real issue. For those who may not have been paying attention, Amazon Prime Video, long the backbone of the reason to have Prime, has now started showing ads in content unless you pony up another $3 a month. This, after Prime has risen to $190 a year. Streaming is a laboratory grade example of hypercapitalism* at work, and I will be colored in no bit Unsurprised Gray when ads come to Kindle. * A specific term and practice, not a neolog for 'wildly out of control evil capitalist meanness.' 🙂
-
Wouldn't argue; the paper-white screens in particular are nice in all lighting and the readers have crazy battery life. But I long ago set out to minimize the pile of Absolutely! Essential! Junk! and a decent Samsung tablet is more than good enough a reader for me. (I could add that I am an e-publishing specialist when not wearing my spandex armor. 🙂 )

Well, on a general reader. Kindle doesn't sideload books easily or well. (The ballyhooed "Kindle reads EPUB!" deal of a year or so ago is a technical shuck with many problems.)
-
I agree with you on most points, but in recent years I've discovered that pulling down some disposable novel, from bed, at midnight, for free, from the library has its charms.
-
Any decent tablet is more flexible, unless you want to read a LOT of Kindle books and in bright light. The problem with Kindle etc. being that Jeffy can reach out and take books away from you. OTOH, it's of benefit that I can update any of my books and they're pushed automatically to all previous buyers.

Welllll... not only are front and end ads for other books and such pretty common, but pick up any late 19th century book, usually tech/trade/nonfic, and look at alllllll the pretty ads at the end. Welllll... let's not go there in here, but. I can't remember what 1950s author had a vistor who exclaimed, "Mr. Smith, Hollywood has just ruined your books!" He turned in his chair to look at the shelf behind him, and said, "They all look fine to me."

Nice one. I've never seen that cover.

CAN WE FIX: The Naga/Razer Tray?
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Just enable the slash command keyword so it can be called and hidden, if not resized. Good enough. Should not need any deep reprogramming. -

Option commands 'WebHide...' — purpose?
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, it comes back to me now. Is any part of that API still functional? Any hooks left to do that web-connect? -
The idea that some powers have limited duration and a required cooldown period was a fairly carefully considered element of the game. That this facet has been eroded doesn't mean we should throw the whole concept out. You can have one power auto-activate. Choose wisely. Or, you know, use a workaround because you believe the concept is wrong.

So I just finished an edit of the Options section of the guide, greatly expanding it based in part on BlackSpectre's updates, and it occurred to me I have no idea what one group of commands is for... BlackSpectre's notes (which may be legacy, in part) say each is to hide that info from "the web page." Thinking from clever experience with how the terminology and focus has changed over time, I thought that might mean the character Info panel... that you could, say, hide your Badge pane from others. But nope. Is this a leftover from the days when all alts could be/were listed on a website? I vaguely remember that but not the details. Any info appreciated.

CAN WE FIX: The Naga/Razer Tray?
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Maybe, but it seems to act just like any other tray, and does seem to be saving changes on a per-alt basis. The only thing that's cross-alts is show/hide. But you may be right; it may be bolted to something that wouldn't allow different control. It'd be nice if the slash command worked, though, so that turning it off and on could be more easily accomplished than a slog through the menus. I found a note that says it's reconfigurable by dragging the edges; forgot to test that a few minutes ago. Not sure if that's still true since it was purposed to map to the mouse's sidebutton layout. -
CAN WE FIX: Secondary Chat Windows?
Shenanigunner replied to Shenanigunner's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Ohhhkayyyy. This is me, standing before you as evidence that you can get too old and senile to play (around with) this game. To my credit, there was a change, in that some of the slash commands stopped working with the extra chat windows; I know that for certain because (1) my well-polished binds stopped working and (2) I am pretty sure I started a bug discussion of it at the time. But all else... I lack an explanation except that the Devs clearly singled me out for the all-time greatest shen in City of Spandex history. Good one, guys. Since my secondary window control went wonky (see above) I have screwed with commands and settings and stuff at intervals, never quite figuring out the obvious monkey-puzzle of simply detaching the trays. But I am fairly certain that I have rung the changes of show/windowhide/windowscale on my one "leftover" tray many times without it having effect. I don't know why; maybe my system had a glitch because I was hanging out in the wind when the change (see above) came along. In any case, show and windowhide work just fine. Calling up and tearing off up to four windows works just fine. You are all no doubt surprised. BUT — those loose windows can't be scaled separately any more, not with windowscale or via window file editing, which is a bug/break/change from around I25. The only way to scale them is the rather clumsy method of re-pinning them, scaling chat, unpinning them, then scaling chat back to whatever I wanted it to be. Note that editing the windows file does not effect any change on these windows, either. So some connecting rod or belt or cable has indeed fallen off back there in the machinery, and if it could get fixed, it would be nice. Although not critical/essential, obviously. Wow. It's going to be tough to remember to duck through all my doorways for the rest of the evening so as not to knock off the well-earned dunce hat. (Despite the tiny crumb of validation.) Oy.
