Emergency Maintenance and Aftermath (2/12/24)
Shenanigunner replied to Widower's topic in Announcements
Yes, it could use a few tweaks but it's now a very useful tool that (1) doesn't crash or collide with any other app or applet and (2) costs nothing/asks nothing/doesn't bug you for no good reason. The descent of all of what used to be freeware/shareware into hypercapitalist pinchware makes me avoid it, and I've actively discarded tools I've used for years because of it. -
Emergency Maintenance and Aftermath (2/12/24)

I said it below, but using Snipping Tool bypasses nearly all of these clumsy steps. You can snip and save parts of the screen in any convenient format, with a little markup capability, without using any kind of image editing tool. -
Emergency Maintenance and Aftermath (2/12/24)

Under Windows, Snipping Tool will work in CoX if you have it activated and enabled (Ctrl-Win-S). That can be more efficient than full screenshots at gaming resolution... -

Well... until they moved her up against a wall, something I have bitterly complained about for a couple of years now... well, never mind.

Well, it's a "thank the devs" thing first. Not everyone needs or wants it, and I suppose for some it's one more flickery distraction they'll prefer to turn off, but I spent a LOT of time entering /loc commands to figure out things like TP distances or power ranges, so having a live display is nice.

I mostly solo, but I dunno numbers... I've just never been a numbers kind of CoX player. I find that I want to engage the maximum level of foes that I can handle without every encounter being a complete grind. So my muscle crowd tends to run +1 to +3, my squishies 0 or 1, and most alts, once they have a decent set of powers, +3 or even +4. That requires careful gameplay and strategy, but means I only get defeated if I make a mistake or just lose the luck of the draw. That is, I want to be challenged, not just farm my way through moderate foes, but I consider it a win if I complete a mission without a defeat. And I let XP, Inf and drops take care of themselves rather than fretting over whether I could have gotten 10% more with some less fun strategy.

No, it was some specific "net god" name like that. Probably too far back for 90% of the crowd here, back when we programmed with sticks and rocks and sent messages around by electric turtle. 🙂 Gahd, I wish this board had a short edit window without adding the obnoxious edit line. I hate to have that plastered on just to fix a typo...

Sigh. Who was the guy, years and years ago, who would respond to EVERY mention of his name, on any channel or platform, with "Overlord Jones is with you." or something like that? This was, of course, back when channels were in the low three digits and took some slight skill to access. Another world.

Lots of things are range-dependent — even just knowing your contact is 100 or 200 feet or IP/1.6 miles away is useful. Useful datum, no downside that I can see.

Oh, For Freya's Sake. I go to be helpful and post nonsense. Thanks... OP corrected.

Sorry, I was being too clever. It's like any other slash command, type it into the chat entry line. Highly recommended, though, especially for newbies and those who have embarrassed themselves too often, to set chat to something like team or supergroup before you enter slash commands. Nothing like forgetting the slash and telling everyone in Broadcast, Help or General what you're doing under the hood of your alt. Far too much "advice" will come your way, much of it strongly resembling snark. 🙂

okay... 🤪

I was thinking it had to be one of the badges that was moved or rezoned or something. When I built my badge tracker, I used the standard lists and it has seven; I know I have used that list to get the LRTP more than once. But current wisdom insists there are eight... ...except this slightly older one: So I feel better, but I gotta say, I am getting a little tired of newbies telling me I'm an idiot because 'X' has always been that way throughout their two-week experience. It's happening... a lot. One thing at fault here is the typical... short sighted updating of "The Wiki" (may peace and blessings be upon its wisdom) that fails to adequately chart changes. All of the more usual resources I checked just list 8 badges, and that's how it always has been. Feh.

Just a heads-up that the savvy players probably already know, as it went past in the patch notes a while back, but next time you are on with each alt, you will almost certainly want to type the secret code phrase /setdistance 1 (ah, oops, make that...) /target_distance 1 into the bat console (chat window). It adds a distance readout to the Target panel. Should have been there long ago, and should be default now! ETA: This also appears to be an account/UI setting, not per alt. So it's one and done!

This was an old redsider I dusted off and Rogue'd out, so no, in this case. I also find a quick badge run faster than an hour in PD.

Huh. And huh again. The only thing I can think of is that I've been hitting the Hero Corps badge, the one in the plaza by Henry Peter Wong or whatever his name is, by accident every time. I managed to leave it off my badge-hunter util list, which I should probably retire in the face of much better ones like ATC's. "Rose? Rose, honey?" (old joke)

Okay, I'm confused. Again. I have an alt I am updating, moved her to Rogue, had never obtained the long range teleporter. So I ran down my embedded list of badges in Atlas, which I've done with one alt after another, and... nothing. No accolade, no transporter. I asked in Help and was assured Atlas has always had eight badges... but somehow I've managed to get the LRTP with only seven. Am I getting senile, or is this the result of fairly recent badge-shifting between Atlas Echo or such?

I actually had a hilarious moment with this. I was logged in with another alt, and before me appeared my main (see posting name) in his street clothes — jeans, boots, dark green sweatshirt. I had the guy wait a minute and popped back in with that version, and we had a good laugh about it. He was a newb, first alt, first costume, and I think the only detail that was different was the choice of specs. *headsmack* Without a screen cap, it didn't happen. Dopey me.
