  1. CoH has the superior character creation for sure, but it's not like LotR nor any other fantasy IP characters are very distinguishing. Long ears, long blonde hair, bow and arrows and you've got, well pretty much any Elf in LotR. And then you name the toon Legolas and they'll be just as much an offense to the IP as anything CoH can produce. And CoH doesn't have any way to modify faces so it's just the outfit that sells the possible infringement, that, and maybe the name. Wolverine is the comic I read most often and have a real good idea of how Logan dressed in the 90s. Take into account that CoH provides me with exact duplicate of his unique claws. The Claws fighting style and stances are Wolvey all day long. Now add to that that Wolverine many times fought in street clothes, I mean, any Claws hero is within a razor's edge of an IP infringement based on how some here feel. Again though, rules are rules and everyone should abide. I'm not advocating for anyone to break the rules, but it won't ever be me that reports someone for how they're dressed. By comparison though, WoW profits millions with millions of subscribers, CoH is a nonprofit with 10s of thousands of players. Just saying, no one is coming for CoH, so we can prob dial it down a bit. And those numbers is not me taking a shot at Homecoming, I have no ill feeling towards WoW, but since I found CoH, I've not played a second of it.
  2. On WoW there was no shortage of hunters named Leggolass or any other variant nor were we lacking of Gnomes named after any one of the Hobbits. But as I said, I'll abide by the rules, I just think this concern is a tad overblown. But, as soooo many have pointed out, and something that I've learned, it's best not to pigeonhole your hero in name, makes for limits and limits are no fun. As an example I gave a hero the name "Pocket Giant" his physique was the big hulking body but his stature was as short as possible. But, not knowing powersets very well, I chose savage/bio, this did not work with a name that included giant, no matter how diminutive his size. Also, for me at least, flying for a giant is a no-go, another limiting factor. So renamed him. Same goes for an IP hero, Wolverine for instance can't fly, no super jump, and no speed, so to stay true to character he's not going to get around Paragon very quickly. Just my 2cents...
  3. While I will abide by the rules, there is no one coming here looking for an IP infringement.
  4. Yeah it's the tank in me. I don't always monitor my health bar. In other games I'm always the tank or off tank and am used to AOE nukes and god-like survivability. 1v1 tanks are slow but 1v10, that's where I shined. Pure DPS, or squishies, I liked their flavor, rogues, mages, or druid kitty but I'd inevitably, eat dirt. That's one of the things that I really like about CoH, you can get any flavor with any AT. I've made like 4 Brutes so far and they all play and feel different...and I like them all in different ways. Because one flies, one jumps, one teleports, and the other speeds around jumping his butt off. One is dark, then there's the energy one...y'all know what I'm talking about...and the defenses are just as different and unique...again preaching to the choir...sorry. Feel like that new guy that's just realizing he's been missing out and trying to tell y'all vets how good the thing is that y'all have been doing for years. I flipped my tactics on my dark/dark blaster and embraced the blapper, it worked for the few runs, but I also boosted my snipe so it hits the ones I hate the most real good. I think my scrapper needs a reroll. Regen just...I ain't feel'n it. Oh also rolled a Stalker. Yeah....jury is still out.
  5. See you at the next meeting....
  6. Solid advice! Thanks
  7. This is exactly my thoughts about double xp. You get so little from mobs in early days. I've worked the market a little since my first post and I did end up begging a billionaire, but I will forward his kindness ASAP. I've gotten lucky with a few good recipe drops that have netted me some millions. But I'm still a little nervous about using conveters to flip enhancements. I blew 30 the other day and never got anything that would sell for over 1 million, so net lose of a million there. I'm probably still doing something wrong, though I have figured out how they work and have used them to gear myself, just for experimental and learning purposes.
  8. It's not my fault my friend...when our affliction flares up we gotta build another one.
  9. This right here...is a big learning curve for me. I was reading over on the Sentinel forum and learning that secondaries can actually buff primaries and I did not know that. I thought, til now that secondaries were defenses, which is another duh moment cause my Blaster only has melee in his secondary and I was wondering when he'd get some sort of defense. Ha! Love learning by fire....
  10. I wouldn't say I didn't have fun... I mean the dying part sucked a bit, but I learned to keep my speed on and just how much HP would get me away alive fairly quickly. It's just I've been only really building brutes (my comfort zone) and with them I can run +1/2 with bosses. My Scrapper is claws/regen. I know, I know but ya know....Wolverine and all. My Blaster is dark/dark, I was going for the whole dark magi thing. Both are slotted with (still new don't know the lingo) generic crafted enhancements and both are around level 20. But this is also how my Brutes were at that level and I survived. I know it's me. I've never been great at DPS in any game unless someone is there to soak up the damage for me. Just was looking for tips...and I've gotten some. Thanks everyone!
  11. I grouped with a Sentinel just last night, I was using one of my Brutes, we were an amazing team. Neither of us had to recharge between pulls best runs I've ever had and I think we were +1 x2 with bosses. She had me interested already, now after what you just said, I'm probably making one soon as I get home.
  12. While I appreciate the entirety of your post, that last bit is game changing....and a duh moment.
  13. I learn via the elastic band method, I go too far ahead and then backtrack to figure out what I did wrong. My toons are kind of like raising children, my first one ends up all messed up but by the fourth it's smooth sailing.
  14. Ok I've stated before that I prefer a side of tank with my DPS, but I tried rolling a scrapper and blaster and had to set the missions to -1 or I was toast. Surely it's me...and my in their face fighting style. Or is it just that early days are tougher on pure DPS?
  15. I'm in the shapeshifting boat. But what I'd like is a variety of forms to pick from based on attacks or situation. Not just one form that you are stuck in for everything. Or maybe have it where some attacks temporarily switch you into a form that you stay in until the next form change attack is cast. Maybe that's too complicated, but I'd at least like to see custom forms and rapid shifting during fights.
  16. What is an AE farm?
  17. One more for the day then work.......... My in game email is not @wutang but the name of the first toon I created. Why is that? Also, if I rename or delete that toon do I still keep the same email?
  18. Everlasting is the place! I'm new, so by no means an "old guard," and the game, at 20 years old, is shiny and new to me. But the flexibility of CoH in character creation and power selection, the community: it's overall maturity, wittiness, and willingness to help, the game play and styling, being laid-back and casual doesn't hurt the overall experience, and like @sbloydsaid, great place to chillax. Fun, pure fun, that's what it means to me.
  19. Another question..... XP modifier buffs, pros and cons? Cons It seems the only con is no inf drops, but that as of lvl 36 seems superfluous to what I get from vendoring drops and the occasional lucky sale on the AH. One other small con...I am leveling out of areas and haven't quite figured out how to find contacts out of story. So I do radio missions...alot. Though to me those are not boring until I have to do a bank heist. The stories still work as long as they are mostly instances, but as soon as they change to "go kill X number of these bad dudes" the XP drops...though I don't miss as much so the fights are quick and savage. Pros The biggest pro is leveling out and getting those new shiny and oh so tasty powers. I need that fix sometimes. Seriously, I know I'm new but the combination of powers in CoH still blows my mind, just adds so much uniqueness and flavor. That's it really the only pros and cons I currently see. So is XP boost mostly good or do I just not see the bad cause I'm power-blind? Oh and so far I've only kept one toon on boost to just get a lvl 50 under my belt. As my game time is limited and I do love me some alt-sugar, it can take me a long time to max out. As always, thanks in advance! -WT
  20. Yeah.... I've just figured that out. It's actually not a bad system and allows for fumbles and huge gains on both sides equally. It maybe the most complicated AH I've used but that's made up for with It's fairness to those that use it on both side of the inf. Compared to say WoW, where everybody just undercuts (to the white meat) even when that system doesn't require it, and it just becomes a buyer's market.
  21. Well when you have an 8ft tall toon with unnatural skin coloring but otherwise looks human... I think it's sort of obvious who is being paid homage too. But really after making a classic hulk-like toon and trying to stay true to the powerset, with the game mechanics being what they are, it's really too limiting. That's why I just made a giant magic dude. Similar look but with a more flexible playstyle, and as you implied, he's more fun.
  22. I thought about necro'ing a thread. All the stuff I had questions about seem to have only been covered back in 2019, but I got the inclination that some things have changed since then. So I thought I'd just introduce myself and fire away hoping not to annoy the community. So far...so good, no one has really thrown up the 100 links and said "read these" or "covered already" or the old standby "use the search function newb!"
  23. I didn't mean literal clones...just power base and origin. Though I did make my Hulk guys big with unnatural skin color, niether are green, or any other color I remember any of the Hulks being, but do have green somewhere in the overall scheme as a nod. One is shirtless and just wears shorts, the other is shirtless in a sleeveless trench coat with pants and shoes. Ah well if I get reported I get reported and hopefully they'll give me a free name change or whatever is need for compliance.
  24. How do you mean? And I searched for "IP restrictions" and "IP charaters" and nothing but your post here is coming up.
  25. I'm might just do that. So it's like a mid-ranged fighter?
