  1. I tried out staff. For me, sustained DPS is not a very useful metric to measure powerset usefulness. I understand this is a thread about ST DPS but I would just question the assumed premise that this is a useful metric for ranking powesets. Fine if you want to use it as a metric for measuring your own build optimization. I like 5s or 10s burst damage more, and quality of AoE attacks that can be integrated into the ST rotation. Sure Staff might also lack in burst damage but it seems like it would be fine for me and adds some interesting utility. However I can't stand the animation for the pbaoe attack, the sounds are way to hollow and weak like a cardboard tube as SomeGuy described it, and I don't like seeing a bunch of brawl icons in my power tray. These "trivial" things make up the overall feel of the set and I don't like it. Gonna try something else. Maybe I lost my scrapper passion from the old days 2004-2007 when I played an ma/sr. I still remember ol' twinkle toes storm kick and SR at the bottom of the pile with regen on top.
  2. I don't see many posts about staff in the scrapper forum. Is it really terrible? Considering a scrapper alt...
  3. I was playing on a team and saw a dual pistol guy dancing around and laughed to myself. But, I was interested in the concept of a pistol character so I took a look at the powerset and animations and couldnt stop laughing at how ridiculous they are. I laughed especially hard at the one where you snap your wrist hard while shooting. I think that makes the bullet go faster? Maybe he's shaking the bullets out of the barrel. The t9 animation is absurd. I would play this set if the animations weren't a circus joke.
  4. Then why bring it up here? If you like it then just go play it on the other game. You are clearly arguing for this feature to be added to homecoming. It's odd to me that essentially an advertisement for a different coh-clone is even allowed on the forum. Godmode is just not fun, which is why even in the modern world of low difficulty games still game designers don't give it to players. Godmode is not gameplay, it's a testing sandbox.
  5. I look at the AH as my own personal bank that stores all my goods and influence, and also provides many services for a small fee. Notably, it will convert my ancient bones to spell inks, attune my enhancements, and change the level of my recipes/enh. It will also convert enh and recipes to other types. So I dump all my salvage and recipes into the bank for a low, sell-now price; I don't craft any of them unless it's a very valuable recipe. Then I withdrawl low cost recipes to craft and convert, and have the AH perform it's attunement service on my enh, or I leave the enh in the AH and earn interest. I can deposit my enh and withdrawl it at any later date; it will always be there without me needing to manage inventory or move things between characters. I don't enjoy the market game and would rather not have to play it, but I've found this way of using it to be the most useful and least bothersome.
  6. I run on Gentoo. Wine is 64 bit only using wow64 for 32 bit support. For the most part it works great but I do see the following issues. I'm not sure if they are even specific to Linux: Some textures don't load until I'm very close. It's most noticeable on the heads of mobs. They can appear as pin-heads from a distance Slow loading between zones/missions. Could be due to me using WiFi? But my ping and bandwidth are very good, and wine is on an SSD. Placing items in base editor is buggy. It just doesn't work right.
  7. Coming back after 20 years, I thought an AR/Mental blaster would be awesome. Drain psyche to fix blaster end issues! ANOTHER cone! I played up to 35 and got sick of the jarring lack of synergy between Drain Psyche and AR. AR wants to be at range; drain psyche needs at least 3 melee targets to be good (one will miss). Plus, I learned every other secondary gets a handy end recovery tool that is usually as easy as a toggle. Psychic scream is nice at low levels but not needed after hasten and recharge slotting. Animation is too long. I rerolled as a different secondary.
  8. Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I found that inactive names are not released for name-change but are released for new characters. Today I transfered my family's characters from everlasting to excelsior and all my son's characters ended up with a "1" on his name even tho it showed available. I created a new char with the desired name. Then deleted that char and was able to rename the char to the desired name. I think the devs made a mistake allowing 1k chars per server. That level of name-sitting is ridiculous. Should be like 20 or 30 max per server. At least they gave us this name-release to help with the issue they caused.
  9. Search function works well, that's how I found it. Doesn't really matter what sub-forum it's in because the people looking for it will use search. Consider it feedback on how the application installs/runs on linux.
  10. Thanks. What distro do you use? Gentoo appears to still be a few versions away from 9.21. Stable is currently on 9.0.
  11. The game installed easily on my Gentoo system and runs great. I made a post with the use-flags and steps here: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/23284-homecoming-launcher-linux-advice/page/4/#findComment-694697
  12. I run Gentoo and the game runs smoothly. Only problem seems to be occasionally textures will be a little slow to load especially in zones. I run an amd64, multilib enabled, open-rc plasma profile. While multilib is enabled, I do not have any packages installed with the abi_x86_32 use flag, so I do not have all that 32 bit clutter. When I went to emerge wine, it wanted to pull in a bunch of 32 bit packages so I updated some use flags to block those and only use 64 bit wine with wow64. I use wine-vanilla (as opposed to proton or experimental). It's also unnecessary to install the mono, gecko, etc bloat. Necessary use flags for virtual/wine and app-emulation/wine-vanilla are: I have wayland enabled but use Xorg. Then just emerge virtual/wine After that I ran winecfg (but didn't change anything), then I ran wine64 Downloads/hcinstall.exe and finally to run the game I run wine64 .wine/drive_c/Games/Homecoming/bin/win64/launcher.exe I use an modern AMD video card and an AMD Ryzen cpu.
