    (The basic idea was to recreate as best as I could the Praetorian PD energy attacks and make a character around it)

    This remind me of something I cobbled together inspired by the Hard Suit...

    Okay, what happens if you tap autorun? Does it just keep going forwards as it should? Could it be making you rubberband? Maybe you've got backwards bound to a key or a macro somewhere? Perhaps on your mouse setup?

  3. Is anybody able to help me out here? I need to find a way to straighten this stuff in my mind.

     

    I understand the secondaries on;

    • Defenders (ranged damage, easy!) ,
    • Corrupters ("Affinities", bleh! Horrible, but ye I kinda get it),* and
    • ALL Melee Classes, Sentinel - damage/defence or vice versa, nice and simple!

     

    ... but it all starts to go awry when I try to comprehend these iffy "Manipulation" and to a lesser extent "Assault" sets.

     

    My questions:

    1. The reason I don't understand "Assault" sets: Am I supposed to just pick the melee OR the ranged powers, depending on whether I intend to hang around at the back or jump into melee? 
    2. The reason I don't understand Manipulation sets: what is being manipulated? Is my primary set being manipulated? Am I being manipulated? Am I supposed to manipulate my enemy with these powers somehow? My instinct says it should be the primary set, via powers such as "build up" or "aim" or "power boost" or "boost range". Those all make sense. But melee abilities in "Manipulations "seem... like they aren't what it says on the tin, you know? Like the non-pet powers in Mastermind primaries.


    I'm not going to suggest removing any powers, but I do like neatness. Why are melee powers in manipulation sets? Should the manipulation sets get renamed to be "Potpourri" or "Hotchpotch" or "Hot Mess" powersets instead?

     

    Maybe it's OCDC** or something. Is there a way to make it all make sense without using the words "Headcanon" or "Pretend"?

    This has some good solid arguments but becomes rather dumb at the end. 

    Whilst it's good to bear in mind the devs' actions and from them form impressions of their opinions, I think it's wrong to try to shut others down and pretend to represent "the rest of us". I've done that plenty myself, so I know when I see something silly. 

    Anyway, the rest of us think the devs should consider buffing or introducing a broader array of non-damage powers for baddies, such as (I know I'll regret this) controls.- hey, it's not a fair playing field, the baddies can't do (much of) the most powerful stuff. To make it more fun, how about each time you CC someone that's already CC'd, they lose both CCs. Then you have to think when using powers instead of /follow and auto-cast. It could apply to baddies casting CCs too.. Imagine the chaos... the beautiful chaos, muahahaha. Just thinking aloud. Again. Sorry.

    I thanked you. Do I get anything for being able to drag my mouse in a straight line for about 56 billion miles*? 

     

    *slight exaggeration, it was about 10cm, but I'm using a trackball and straight lines aren't easy.

    Well, yes, I wouldn't like to limit the idea to just rifles. Imagine if other tools could be on the list - magic wands or voodoo dolls or some other totem. I mean, the world's your oyster, but the more generic they are, the better the effort/reward ratio.

     

    I said ratio, not radio.
    That's going to look weird when they change the emotes again.

  7. This should allow players to choose blaster rifle animations for a huge array of powersets! Exciting!

    BLASTER RIFLE ANIMATIONS for all* ranged powersets
        -AKA ranged damage set rifle costume part/alternate animation.
        
    Ranged Damage sets (Blaster primary or Corrupter secondary) are analysed:
    if the player selects one of these

    • ice 
    • fire 
    • dark
    • energy
    • electric
    • psychic
    • radiation
    • seismic
    • sonic
    • storm?
    • water

    i.e. not one of these:

    • archery 
    • assault rifle
    • beam rifle
    • dual pistols


    When the user then clicks the Costume tab in the CC, a "weapons" section appears with a selection of Rifles.
    At the top of the list is "None".

    If the user selects None, then the Custom tab uses vanilla animations.
    If the user selects a Rifle, then the Custom tab uses a hybrid Rifle animation with the source point of any raycast powers being the gun.


    I acknowledge this would be a grand project and as such I don't expect it to be implemented.

    BUT, it's been bugging me and I want to express it.


    Energy guns, Ice rifles, Sonic cannons!  Woohoo!

  9. I love masterminds, but for me I have an issue wrapping my head around the combination of Primaries with Secondaries. Getting a concept that works is really hard.

     

    Personally, I think the Secondary selection is really meh, I dislike them all. I don't do Defender sets. There are NO fun options - can we have assault instead of support?

     

    That said, I recognise that this discussion is specifically about Primaries and so I will say this:

     

    Things I love about MM:

    • Thugs,
    • Robots,
    • Mercenaries,
    • Whips in Demons,
    • The IDEA behind Ninjas.

     

    There's an old trope/adage that goes, "Keep it Simple Stupid". This is something that I'd HIGHLY recommend people who are creating a hero designer/costume creator. There's a reason Lego is so successful - it started with a simple brick. The point I'm trying to make is that the onus for being creative should be on the PLAYER not the developers.

     

    And the conclusion is my suggestion: Men in Suits. Simple, elegant and can be used by a HUGE variety of character concepts. 

    This contrasts with Ninjas. Complex, off-the-wall design that is admirable from a creativity point-of-view but lacks versatility - who has a Ninjas MM? Too complicated, not compatible with players' concepts.

     

    Demons audio could do with a pass. I think the triggers need to be reduced in their frequency and the sounds themselves made less jarring.

     

     

  10. Billboards offer the opportunity to create a lot of fancypants artwork.

     

    We could even have rotating billboards (I mean people could generate new art each ... week, for example - not that the billboard itself rotates).

    Hey here's one: Advertise

    • Upcoming Costume Competitions,
    • Tanker Tuesdays, other events,
    • Base Design Competition!
    • Advertise your Supergroup!

    Ofc, these designs should have dates on their names so people don't download old ones (or out-of-date ones could be removed from the mod site).


    There's loads of scope for interesting adverts! Where are our artists?
