All good ideas.  I lovelovelove the Halloween event, so looks like this year my stalker's going to be one of the scouters, yep!

What's the "Golden Dawn" though (Aleister Crowley reference? ha ha)?  I've done some Hami raids but that term's unknown to me.

Heh... Rufus, Roger Taylor's son is the drummer in Justin Hawkins' The Darkness. They probably rehearsed this over the dinner table.

Here's a spin on a song by The Smiths that's probably being googled a lot at the moment.

1 - 50 includes incarnates, SOs won't work. When I say they won't work I mean all content.

As far as the rest I said "my opinion " and in that I believe we went off the tracks in the past and the HC devs have continued trying to shore up what they were handed.

I feel that. What do you think they could do in future, to improve the state of the game? Revert to pre-incarnates? Waste all that expensive development work, not to mention all the effort players have put into grinding the powers? ... I think we're a shark now, we can only move forwards. What that means ... I think it would be great to have a big old  discussion on THAT topic.

First, spoiler alert this is my opinion based on what I see and/or hear. Agree or disagree it makes no difference to me.

A common mistake I see, maybe others do as well are the mistakes Live devs created that continue into the future. Which I think has led to our current dilemma(s).

Namely "Going Rogue" and "Incarnates", there should have never been the ability to go back and forth for the ATs, this has created issues between the melee classes because of how close they are. Where do the different ATs fit in? Currently Tanks are the meta, scrappers and stalkers are close with only differences in stealth and crits really defining them, and brutes well they are lost in all this.

At least with the other classes, the exceptions being Veats/HEATS, they are opposites, Controllers are control plus buffs/debuffs, dominator are control and damage. Same can be said of corrs/fenders, and sentinel are just the red headed step children of blasters. Yes, yes, I know some of you like your sents but seriously they need some love.

Masterminds...well we are going to get to them.

Incarnates, you see every comic book, DragonBall, and the TV show like Supernatural always think you have to go bigger and badder with things. While this might appeal to some, in this case it was a mistake and continues to be so. This whole route has just led to a host of issues in the balance department and I'm sure in game development. Hard mode created for the specific involvement of incarnate abilities is just a way to compensate for the stuff that the live devs unloaded.

If you hadn't noticed the live devs made alot of bad decisions on game development and its future or lack thereof in their case. Which in turn has forced players regardless of AT although some more than others (namely Mastermind) to jump through hoops, become unplayable, or use a blend of ATs to create the ability to win this new hard mode.

Minus, the content, stories are great, ASF is one of my favorites, the new Halloween stuff, IO sets, etc all great stuff and I enjoy it.

But, this continuing path of forcing players to use incarnates abilities to win is just garbage.

It's the main reason I quit the first time.

The focus is lost on great game play and teams when steamrolling, leagues, and making sure team composition is specific classes and everyone has to have incarnate abilities to succeed. It's not fun.

This is where the current devs are, I think the mistakes of the live devs have forced HC devs down a path that is just getting worse.

I think the live devs instead of doing Going Rogue at least the going back and forth part should have been dumped and the focus should have been on co-op zones, fixing current issues, and grinding out better content aka missions, TFs/SFs, etc. This in turn would have canceled the incarnate grind and put the focus on good challenging content with new items, costumes, IOs, and quite possibly powersets and ATs.

Goldside is a ghost town, redside is hardly better namely because the ATs don't have to stay where they should be at.

I have no easy answer on how to proceed, but, when I see the people way back then who I learned from and looked to for advice no longer playing or scaling it back so much that they only play for special events. Then I know something is seriously wrong.

    Just my 2 cents.

The following is my opinion, if you disagree, please be respectful.

I agree with nearly all of your post, but I'm not sure I agree that the proposed alternative would retain players in a commercial version of the game. Unless, it came thick and fast, which I believe AE allows us to do.

I think allowing people to switch teams is a shame because it means nearly everybody ends up on blue, to be with other players - it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. An inescapable spiral. It's somewhat disappointing, I have to say, especially when you can do so with minimal effort. I understand convenience is a wonderful thing, but the story of your character is marred by Null-the-Gull - when you should be doing dastardly things in order to become a villain. It should BE a story not a light switch. And I get it, I don't HAVE to use the seagull, but when it's THERE... it's just there - all you do it press a thing. It's too tempting, especially if the other method feels like a chore.

    Regarding Incarnates

I think the NCSoft watched WoW with envious eyes and drooling jowls. I'm not going to say they were told what to do, but the Paragon devs tried to implement open world Raid-Like content. I can't say it's a bad idea - it's the meat and drink of Guild Wars 2 even today, but I don't get a kick out of it at all. Pressing 1111 whilst watching some feet/tentacles - it's a bit on the lame side, even when it's Lusca. Sorry Lusca.

... and you can see what the players would have said if the story kept going along the lines of "help <Legendary NPC> do a thing". It would be nonsense along the lines of "this story isn't about me". Because when you're top-tier you expect to be their equivalent, not their lacky anymore.

I think Butt Gun was in a film I watched very late last night. I think it was called, "You Can Shove Your Butt Gun" ... erm, I mean ... <cough> I'm a fine upstanding citizen. I don't watch those sorts of films!

Where did you get the idea I was sore or would be?  The thread's title literally says, "I'm not complaining."

I think it's important to have this discussion. I also believe that even the most ardent advocate of land grabbing is happy with the system as long as the time period is reasonable. Even @ivanhedgehog admits that one year might be fine.

if it only affected accounts that hadnt logged in in a year, you might be right

Ehm.. no. I don't see how the amount of time changes whether I'm right or wrong. I think I'm either one or the other in the whole of my opinion. I think you mean to suggest that a year might be a more appropriate timescale for the proposed system.

In which case, we're debating over the parameters within the proposed system and not whether it's reclamation rather than theft.

    There's no sophistry here.

Hey there folks. First I just want to say, thank you all for your appreciation for the mods I have put together. It means a lot to me, as sounds are a huge part of why I have enjoyed this game for so many years. When I first started playing this game about mid ways through issue 1, the sound effects in this game just blew my mind. They were so masterfully put together and left me deeply impressed. Sadly, over the years more and more of some of those iconic sound effects have diminished, which completely goes against the grain of one of the primary reasons that hooked me to this game to begin with. I am a sound guy, I always have been.

At the ripe age of 7, I started learning to play the guitar. By the time I was 17, I had joined my first metal band called Jester. By 23, I had put together my own band called Skrewed and it grew pretty popular in the Louisville area. We had some issues with our singer and fired him, replaced him, then renamed the band Sounds Fatal. Our new singer was a genius and he fit our hard hitting heavy sound perfectly. Sadly, his daughter ended up having her feet cut off at kentucky Kingdom (you may have heard about this incident) and after that, he was just done. I couldn't blame him, what happened to her hit everyone hard, it could not have happened to a better kid. She was a really sweet and innocent kid, she brightened everyone's day she came in to contact with. So when our singer said that he couldn't do it anymore and that he was moving back to Florida, we gave him our blessing and wished him the best.

Eventually we called it quits when we realized we weren't going to find another singer like him and I moved on to write Symphony Orchestra music. I have some of this music on Youtube under the name Ecliptic Comics if you are interested in hearing it, but my point is, as you can see, I have always been heavily involved in sounds, as I also produced sound effects for some of the songs in our song list.

As you can see, sounds have always been a huge part of my life, and this game is no exception.

At 18 I got in to a bit of trouble with the law and was convicted of a crime that I did not commit. Truth be told, it was the so called friend who I was with who actually committed the crime, I opted out and chose to stay in the car. To make a long story short, I was 18, he was 17, so they pinned it all on me. So I have been living as a convicted felon for ALL of my adult life. I am now 47 years old. I was literally still in High School when this happened and had only been 18 for two months.

Recently, I found out that the Burglary 2nd conviction that was given to me, was completely bogus and should have never been handed out to me, since even in the statements, the guy who actually committed the crime wrote that I had never entered the home, nor did I want any part of the crime. So recently, I have been preparing to get my day in court for a new trial to prove my innocence...all these years later, in an attempt to free me of an undeserved felony. This weights heavy on my mind and has me very stressed out. I can't expect most people to understand what it is like living life as a convicted felon in the United States...it completely changes your life and limits your abilities drastically. Most people just end back up in prison, because trying to make it through life as a felon is just too difficult for them. Me, I found a way to stay out of the system and make an honest living; but it took a lot of dedication and a lot of hard work to get where I am today, to say the least, it hasn't been easy, especially because initially, before the conviction, I had plans to become a History teacher...well, no school is ever going to hire a felon, so I ended up as a carpenter instead. Eventually I moved on from that and got educated with RF technology, so living as a felon is possible, it just takes a hell of a lot of chin-ups to overcome the statistics.

Recently I have also been involved in a divorce after I discovered that my wife of 5 years, was secretly using Meth. Drugs are rampant these days and I never thought I would find myself in such a situation, but here I am, recently divorced because my ex wife was tempted in to doing drugs with her friends and it destroyed our marriage.

I have also recently went through a career change. I was an RF Specialist for Spectrum Communications, I have been in the industry for 15 years, but after a car accident that almost took my life, it was discovered that it was too dangerous for me to be climbing telephone poles and walking on ceiling joists due to the hardware that is in my right ankle, so I was given an opportunity to either switch careers or stay within the company but transfer to a different department. I chose to leave the company, with pay, while I worked on getting my class A CDL. Yes, I am fine and I walk fine, but my days of being an acrobat are pretty much over, heh.

Now I am working for PAM Transportation and have moved on from my previous career. I have always worked alone, no bosses to breath down my neck and nobody micro managing me, so moving to a different department wasn't exactly my cup of tea because that would have been my new reality if I had, not to mention it would have put me in a position to have to deal with other humans working in my general area...ewwww...humans! No thanks! haha.

So as I am sure that you can see, my plate is pretty damn full and it won't take much to just make me say to hell with it when it comes to this game that I have loved since the beginning of its creation.

Sadly, there was a change to the game that was recently made that I have been saying for years if ever was implemented, it would mean the last of my days as a City of Heroes player. Well, it happened and I am just at my wits end. This change combined with my current life situation, kind of put the final nail in the coffin for me. So hence forth from this day, this will be the last day Solarverse plays City of Heroes and the last post I will be making. No, I won't say which change it was, I think I made enough stink of it as is, no need to get anyone else involved, it wouldn't do any good anyway. Simply put, my journey with this game as come to an end and it is time for me to head down a different path in life.

I will however periodically check this forum to see if any changes are made that affect the mods, and I will keep the mods updated for as long as I live or as long as the game exists. So if there are ever any changes to the game that negatively impacts any of my mods, just let me know here and I will fix them when it becomes possible to do so and reply when that fix is implemented.

Farewell Heroes, it's been an honor. I'll see you all in the next lifetime. Cheers!

Thanks for all your modding work 🙂 It was nice to have you around.
