  1. This is my whole schtick with the all-powerful Duke Dreadsome, who may actually just be a villain cosplayer. I usually start with a crazy drink order in Pocket D, try to recruit some henchmen to truly deplorable conditions, ramble about how he is a widower seven times over, and then eventually call an Uber to catch the "Skull Flyer" in Port Oakes. Always fun! "Ah, my dear bartender, I require a libation fit for a ruler of the underworld! A cauldron of molten gold, infused with the tears of my enemies and the blood of a thousand sacrificial goats! Mix it with the venom of the most venomous snakes and top it with a diamond chalice filled with the finest nectar from the flowers of the Underworld. And for an added touch of decadence, sprinkle it with gold leaf and garnish with the heart of a dragon!"
  2. My SSD seems to be acting funky and while I am hoping it is just some corrupted boot files I can repair, I may have to reformat or get a new hard drive. It's a long story but since the drive is showing as healthy even though something is obviously wrong, I probably don't want to just clone it and will just do a fresh reinstall of, well, everything. My question is while I definitely want to save things like costumes, screenshots, etc, what files in CoH constitute how your characters are ordered and how the individual UIs are laid out? I know it's kind of crazy but I have over 100+ characters arranged alphabetically in alternating alignments and while it would only take a couple minutes to fix each one again, doing that for 4.5+ hours on top of everything else that goes with a reinstall sounds sad and filled with sighs. I am, of course, aware that I don't have to be this persnickety about the characters and how they are arranged but it is the way my mental issues manifest themselves. Thanks in advance!
  3. Ah. My guess is someone at some point named a character that and something in the appearance / bio made it obvious that it was because of more, um, adult reasons and someone petitioned so they banned it. Or the ban goes back to back in the day and it was just on the list already.
  4. I'm not mentioning this to dwell on ALL the meanings of the name but Gag Reflex seemed to be available. I say "seemed" because nothing came up on a getglobalname search but it is possible I typo'd (it was during a fight) or that the person has it as a character name and a global name. I didn't check it in the actual character creator. I almost took it for a poison spitting clown character since it worked on two levels but I found something I liked better. It could be a good pun name if used for a jokey or gross character.
  5. I'm not at home yet so I can't play around with the character creator but has anyone ever tried or had luck creating a static / white noise kind of costume pattern? It's not something I've tried before but I thought someone may have some thoughts.
  6. Okay but hear me out: What if all the plaques have a small Veracor added to them?
  7. I had just posted the other day about barely RPing these days and then had a lot of fun RPing on Everlasting (in Pocket D, no less) as a good half-dozen players hopped on board to try to figure out the “mystery” of my character Sky Pilot, a shared delusion of a mid-90’s religious TV superhero who only speaks in show-ending PSAs. People were engaged, seemed invested, and while the mystery wasn’t resolved, it reached a point where I could log-off with some sense of satisfaction. It was a lot of fun. That said, I know there were people who felt put out as it became kind of a focal point for a moment and someone speaking in PSAs probably make a bit of a text wall. Someone literally commented OOC that they “weren’t a fan” but I wasn’t entirely sure if they were talking about me or this RP. To be fair to myself, I’ve brought this character into Pocket D before and usually all that happens is a couple people engage with her, I spout a few PSAs, and then we all move on with life no more than about 15 minutes later. This is the first time it clicked with that many other people. I was on Virtue back on Live and in a hardcore RP group but after we all popped back on to Homecoming briefly for a bit of a reunion, only I seem to remain around as a semi-regular player. Back then we used to go deep on typical superhero RP; Our SG forums were filled with articles and ongoing information about the day-to-day happenings. Characters were killed off, things happened that gave our characters new abilities, characters lost their powers, we had retcons, heroes went bad and then good and then bad again. We had a roster of supervillains that vexed us. And, when the game ended, time and space unraveled. I still enjoy the game and doing the like 6-7 things that everyone is doing to level and while I may be one of the folks hanging in there, I know that I don’t really have time to immerse myself like I once did. But I miss it sometimes.
  8. These were all available last night while I was trying to name a new hero. DogfaceDocudramaDoublecheckDoublethinkDoubleheaderDownplayDownwindDownlowDuckfaceDujourWith regards to Duckface, if we had a proper duckbill (I don't like the work arounds), I'd snatch this for a selfie-taking social media influencer hero/villain in a second. But if you like the options just fine, maybe it'll work for you! 😁
  9. "Hey there, Sky Squad! Sky Pilot here, ready to talk to you about something very important. Now, I know we all love to fight crime and save the world, but sometimes it's important to take a break and have some fun, too. That's where Pocket D comes in!" "For those of you who haven't been, Pocket D is a super-cool nightclub in another dimension. But it's more than just a place to dance and listen to tunes. It's also a place to let loose and be whoever you want to be. That's right, heroes and heroines, it's time to put on your best costumes and get ready for some serious roleplaying!" "Now, I know what you're thinking. "Roleplaying? That sounds like something only geeks do!" But let me tell you, it's not just for geeks. It's for anyone who loves to use their imagination and have a little fun. Whether you want to be a swashbuckling pirate, a mystical wizard, or even a trace group memory of some long dead TV actress from the mid-90’s, the sky's the limit when it comes to roleplaying in Pocket D." "And the best part? You don't have to worry about saving the world while you're there. You can just kick back, relax, and enjoy some good old-fashioned fun with your fellow heroes and heroines. Trust me, after a long day of fighting crime, it's just what the Man Upstairs ordered." "But remember, heroes and heroines, with great fun comes great responsibility. Make sure you're respectful of your fellow roleplayers, and always remember to follow the rules of the club. And of course, never forget that the Man Upstairs is always watching over you, even when you're having fun." "So what are you waiting for? Grab your costumes, put on your dancing shoes, and head over to Pocket D for a night of RP!" "And as always, remember, with the Big Guy in the Sky on your side, you're flying high! See you next week!"

  10. I barely RP these days but I have a number of gods, demons, cosmic entities, etc. and where I think the self-gratification comes in is I just like creating characters in my own head canon universe. No matter their power level, I certainly don’t expect anyone else to acknowledge it or bow down. This probably isn’t popular to say but RP in this game has been spotty going back to Live. Must of us aren’t good at it or improv or even courtesy. For every open and engaging person you encounter, there are 15 whose whole RP persona is, “Hi! I’m an edgy a-hole so I’ll be poking holes in whatever you say!” How fun! Pocket D RP is loaded with these types and it is pretty impenetrable if you are not there doing it every day so when I pop in there, it is usually with the characters that lampshade PD RP to some degree. I had genuine fun playing out Steve Saturn’s origin story in the D and I hope some other people were entertained. And I do try hard to not to yuck other people’s yum but sometimes I get in a weird mood and take it too far and am probably a distraction. At the time I was doing it, I was having fun only interacting with people using Dr. Rick Dagless Darkplace dialogue but in retrospect, I was probably the only one. I say if someone is god moding, “yes and” them as much as you can stand and find another spot. I’m trying to take that advice myself.
  11. Disregard! It was still free by the time I got home!
  12. Interested in Fruit Fly but I won’t be home for ages. Any chance someone could hold for me??
  13. My guess: One or both of those L’s is/are uppercase i’s or that they’ve had it parked since about 5 minutes after launch. 🤣
  14. That I went with the 80's version shows my age but when someone on a team pitched this as a possible name for a fire-based character, I grabbed it when the other player passed. The costume is meh but the name still makes me giggle from time-to-time.
  15. Before Homecoming, one of the iterations of Icon or whatever it was called allowed you use some of the NPC costume pieces and you could use commands to gather and pose your characters (really just their costumes) together. I’m assuming this is how this group shot was captured. You could log into an empty Atlas and I *think* you could use commands to go to other zones. I did it a couple times to take some group screenies of my heroes and villains but I don’t recall how it all worked. Only did it a few times because I found logging into the empty Atlas to be pretty depressing.
  16. Dammit. Now I need Mini Mode on one other character. Coin-Operative demands it! Also, is it too much to ask that my character's own profile be an emblem I can use? Huh?? ((I am aware that it is, indeed, too much to ask.))
  17. I've actually been using @shadowrex's build for my own Superman though I came to the no need for Hasten and adding Maneuvers independently before the second build was posted. I feel like it is serviceable for the vast majority content (on paper: He's only level 20 and not all Sets are bought yet) but what @tidge and @PLVRIZR said gave me some pause. So it I were to do a second build exclusively for certain tough enemies like Lord Recluse and the Crimson Prototype, do you have recommendations on where to pull slots from to 6-slot Dull Pain and (presumably) 2-slot Hasten? Cross Punch, maybe some slots from Weave and Invincibility seem like possibilities. Any advice?
  18. On another character, I started what is meant to be just a small apartment-style base as a kind of tutorial and I have been looking at Dacy's videos but it is really slow going. Like I said, whatever gene there is that allows you to enjoy it, I lack it. To me, it feels like pulling teeth. But I intend to keep trying. Maybe a switch will get thrown in my head.
  19. One thank you is in the reactions! Here's two more: Thank you, Thank you! Unfortunately, I want the base under the name of an existing SG. A buddy of mine started it and even though he faded, I wanted to take a run at the SG in his absence - actually build his missing character's absence into our mythos - and try to recruit from there. I am thinking that having a fun, functional base semi-up and running from the start would be best as I don't want to place the burden on a new member and I am hopeless at it.
  20. I'd give you three Thank Yous if you can tell me if what I'm looking for is at all doable. I know enough about base building to know it would probably mean building some kind of fake skyline from stuff and there probably isn't a way to do that on four sides but even two sides would probably make it a little labor intensive.
  21. I know that there has been discussion on the forums about it and I've seen at least one base builder who makes amazing bases and then "sells" it and the SG for influence with bidding usually starting at 500,000,000 influence so I don't know how much it actually ends up costing or how common it is or even if it is common at all.
  22. I have blocked out so much of Roger Moore's Bond...
  23. Oooooooh...this is pretty cool. I may use some of this if he ever does/has a straight up Vampyri look. Thank you!
  24. Many thanks, friend! ❤️
  25. I kept the character but dropped the name Brass Jaw. It's kind of punny but never really worked for the character of a steampunk robot butler.
