  1. I've had this name (it means Shadowfist in German) for a bit and always figured he was a product of the Council's Vampyri super soldier program gone right but I struggled with coming up with a costume I liked. This one has hit about the closet but not 100% sold so I thought I'd seek some input. The green gloves are a homage to the Vampyri and I can't decide if I love them or hate them. The colors are off in the animated gif and his eyes strobe much slower...I just suck at making animated gifs. Thoughts?
  2. After a break, I've been on no less that 5-6 teams or leagues recently where tension about Group Fly has gotten heated while I just listened to the back and forth. I do, honestly, see both sides of things - I have it on a few Masterminds myself. What seems to be different in Homecoming's reemergence compared to Live is that I can't imagine not turning it off if someone asked me to do so but since the return of the game, I've seen people refuse or leave teams rather than do so. I've seen it several times just this past week. I get it. We have an option to turn it off and we should all visit Null the Gull with each and every alt to make sure we're not affected if we don't want to be. I have to admit, though, it frequently slips my mind (I don't seem to be alone) and by the time I encounter it in the higher level content, it usually isn't convenient to pop over for the fix. I don't haunt the D with most characters so I generally don't even have it as an option on the teleporter and when you have to explain to the team or league why you are leaving the zone (or risk being kicked), it usually just starts up the discussion. I have just vaguely said I have something to do real quick - but even then folks see where you went and guess and it starts the debate up anyway. Could this be something added to our Options at this point? It'd be a lot easier to recall if you've taken care of it on a given alt and while I've not run into it personally, I can imagine scenarios where you might want it off 95% of the time but having a way to turn it back on on the spot for a given mission or situation may be of value. Given that people want to use it, that there is no flag to remind you if you've taken care of it on a given character until you are in the thick of it, and that it does affect movement and some powers, being able to pull it up on a tab in Options seems the better, well, option if it is at all possible.
  3. Hopped on a Virgil Tarikoss Strike Force sometime after 10 AM Pacific Time Monday morning on a Level 50 I'd just gotten there the night before. Character was trained to 50 and I was earning Incarnate xp throughout the SF. At the end, I got the extra merits and presumably the bonus xp nut no Notice or Prismatic Aether Particle. I ran on another character last night and all was well though someone on the team said they didn't get their Notice either - also Level 50. Support said there wasn't anything they could do but suggested I post here so I'm doing that. Cheers.
  4. Hey all! Back from a bit of a break and did a little clean-up. Released these to the wild: Airfoil Disabler Dissembler Dream Agent Hellbot Holy Shroud Keycard Mistress Mask Serious Shopper Supra Cop -> mine was a Supra Troll turned cop but it didn't grow on me Tedium Uni-Man Nothing spectacular but maybe there is something there that will work for you! Have fun!
  5. The new issue page looks cool and fun and I appreciate all the hard work that the Homecoming team does but I’m practically a boomer and don’t take care of myself so I need to see 4 things in this game before I shuffle off to the load screen in the sky. 1. A Greco-Roman Spear for a staff. Yes, I know you don’t really fight with spears like that but I don’t care. Gimme that spear. 2. Reichman’s pants. Colorable. For all body types. 3. A customizable "panicked run" like the NPCs do when they are frightened so I can make someone of my characters run around with their arms flailing around like idiots. 4. Those other travel powers that were conceptualized but not made. Which maybe actually be like 10 other things, really.
  6. I have at least three characters where getting this costume choice will be a priority and will always be on.
  7. I released some of these and found some of these: Airwing Black Ax Cosmic Cruller High Summer Key Note Lycantherapist Lycantherapy Skyman Singsong Spring Break Wikipedia Brown Winged Victory
  8. Well, I wouldn't be in favor of too short an inactive time for situations like that. Even so, most active duty members of the military on deployment can still probably manage a yearly login if the game still holds interest for them. I'm thinking more about the folks who played for a few months at launch and then never returned.
  9. My memory may be faulty on this but when name purges were discussed back on Live, characters of X level and above were generally safe and it was only low-level characters that might lose their name. The idea was to free up squatted names on inactive accounts but not changing the name of a Level 50 in case that player returns to the game someday. I think I also recall the mechanism being discussed was such that the name was only generic’d if or when someone chose that name in the character creator for a new character. Otherwise, the name stood as is. I don’t think this ever happened. As I am sure thousands of names were squatted when HC began by players who have long since moved on, I think mass purging squatted names is reasonable but the kind of targeted name purging you describe is probably beyond the time constraints of an all-volunteer GM squad. You generally can’t get a timely reply on a bugged mission or TF (not complaining - I know resources are limited). I think having those precious few GMs available to help individual players get individual names isn’t a great use of resources. As an aside, I’m trying to be more considerate when someone reaches out to me on a name but as altitis is built in to this game, I’m generally not responsive if someone is trying to shame me for keeping a name on a Level 50 that isn’t my “main.” I don’t have a main. I love them all and I’m unlikely to give up the name of a Level 50. If I get asked about a sub-50 though, I try to consider the likelihood that of my playing them soon and how attached I am, etc. I really need to do a clean-up soon.
  10. Proud Citizen and Pin-Up Girl are good people! The extensive mythos she had written up for Pin-Up Girl and a group of WW II-era new media-themed superheroes directly inspired my character Newsreel and we even did a joint commission once with Pin-Up Girl and my character Satin Doll forever preserved by my pal Carlos Valenzuela. He went on to do a lot of cover work for IDW. The title of the comic "Late Edition" and Muck-Raker all comes from (or was inspired by) Pin-Up's extensive mythology. https://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/PinUp_Girl Oh! And fetish model Miss Mosh gave her okay for her likeness to serve as the basis for Satin Doll. I think the pose may have been from one of her pictures. I met all these folks mostly on DA, just commissioning and chatting. CoH and Deviant Art had great communities back in the day! Met a lot of awesome folks!
  11. Do you have an idea for powers, origin, costume, etc? It is a little easier to hunt for names within a narrower theme. Dark avenger is kind of broad.
  12. Hey! I didn't realize this had gotten a few responses! Apologies, been away from the forums for a bit. I was going for a tarnished brass but maybe I could afford to brighten him up a little! Thanks for the input!
  13. I never seek to do an outright clone but I have so many homage characters. Naturally, I had to take a crack at Dredd in the form of Arbiter Doom!
  14. Brass Jaw would pop into my head from time -to-time as a pun on Glass Jaw even going back to Live but I never made him until now. Steampunk isn't really my jam but the idea here is that it is a steam-powered robot from the Victorian-era designed to be some rich inventor's majordomo and bodyguard, accounting for his more human-like face. I am kind of warming up to him but not 100% on the name. The Beastly Rage Chest aura set to dark orange makes those orange chevrons appear to pulsating, suggesting some kind of fire burning within. He is a bio armor tanker with the SFX minimized, which leaves a lot of smoky effects happening in various places. Thoughts?
  15. Do you still have your entry? If you do, share it here! Alas, mine seems to be gone forever. All I have been able to find is my cringe cover and a random page. No pdf, no pictures. Nothing. Bummer.
  16. I didn't know Vampire the Masquerade had a card game! Sadly, I never had a group of players to play Vampire with me back in the 1990's but I did pick up a lot of the books. And now that I have 2 regular groups of TTRPG players, we have other campaigns to wrap up before we could give Vampire a try. Maybe I could talk them into a one-shot...
  17. Poison is a long game and by the time you are standing in the middle of mobs with (near) impunity and getting the full effect, you are also probably eyeing your next alt.
  18. All the fox character character shares makes me want to share Gangrael. I mean, he has some semi-adorable Fox vibes. Just look at his little face!!
  19. Ah, Satin Doll from Jocachi! I love the character name and this piece of art. But, still, there are a lot of things of changes I will someday make to her in the game. First, the overall look. My initial take on this character's look isn't too far off this - she is supposed to be a femme fatale with somewhat impractical costume. I always saw her with a cape/poncho kind of get-up - something like a vintage nurse's cape. With none of the capes in game really looking like that and with the Hard Candy hairstyle cape clipping issues, I went with the jacket and she just ended up looking like a Black Canary homage. Second, the appropriation. When her origin was created, Satin Doll was the second to take up the mantle - the first being her grandmother in the Golden Age. After an adventure in India, the original Satin Doll acquired the Eye and Khaṭvāṅga of Kali and returned to the United States with them. Even while making the character in like 2007, I was aware that this was totally the Mighty Whitey trope and well-worn in comics. but I didn't bother to change it or parody it, I just acknowledged it in RP from time to time and that just isn't good enough. I recreated Satin Doll on Everlasting and was able to get the costume a little closer to what I first envisioned. When I get around to re-working her bio, I'll probably drop the Eye and Khaṭvāṅga of Kali and pull from the in-game mythos. I never could represent the Khaṭvāṅga in-game anyway so there isn't really a need to cling to it. Disclaimer: I am not the artist of any of these works. In most instances (though not all) I merely created the characters in City of Heroes. Sometimes, I directed the artist with lots of notes and other times I let them do their thing. The late 00's were a different time and not all design choices then would be the same today.
  20. One of my more popular characters on Virtue was Janet Planet and Big Chris brought her to life for the first time. Janet comes from a possible future where humanity has split into 3 sub-species: The intelligent Lectors, the beautiful but simple-minded Idio, and the gruesome but mechanically inclined Trogs. I'll give you three guesses where Janet falls in that lineage. Most people people think I got the name Janet Planet from either Rocky Horror, Schoolhouse Rock, or Alan Moore's run on Supreme. The name may have been lurking in the back of my brain because of those influences but I didn't consciously pick it because of any of them. I was just looking for an alliterative name and it popped into my head. I didn't recreate her on Everlasting because the fact that there is another Janet Planet is comics bugs me even if you are hard pressed to find an actual image of her. 21. Juggertha was an artist / art collector back in the OG days of the game and he did this one for me after I'd ran a contest in the All-Star Sentinels to try to drum up some interest in red side and the ASA's rogue's gallery. I don't really recall now many people took part but Condor King was the winner! This character is not mine but actually belongs to my old friend @ApeChild. 22. Hey LL! I've been here since Homecoming launched and on Everlasting since *it* launched. The All-Star Sentinels had an all too short revival but soon faded away. I think I'm about the only one who still regularly plays. I've been thinking about posting up the various scaps I used to do for the ASA forums and I found these from when you helped me set-up Doctor Epoch's introduction to the All-Stars. Good times!
  23. She's known simply as Mime now on Everlasting but back on Virtue with taghuso drew her, she was known as Maniac Mime. I also did a Who's Who page I did on her in the style of DC's Who's Who in the 80's. Fun fact: The Factoid section references the Amazing Comics Group, editor Sal Rothstein, and Tag's artist alter ego of Terrance Anderson within the ACG! It was layers upon layers! 24. The third Torch Titan, also courtesy of taghuso but with an extra special connection. As I dug deeper and deeper into the fictional lore of the All-Star Sentinels, I found that quite a number of the characters from this history were free and available. The first two Torch Titans had been Tag's characters and both were kind of unapologetically modelled on Alan Scott. This was all back in the days before you could buy extra server slots so at some point, Tag had deleted TT to make room for another character so I grabbed it, asking if I could do a Silver Age version. I even said "Think Hal Jordan to your Alan Scott." He was sold. I can't recall if I commissioned this or if he did it as a kindness but either way, it has been one of my favorites. Disclaimer: I am not the artist of any of these works. In most instances (though not all) I merely created the characters in City of Heroes. 25. Oh, man! Bucky Sheldon from taghuso! This takes me back and also riddles me with regrets all at the same time. Explanation is in order. This is going to get weird. As envisioned by Tag, the All-Star Sentinels of America were a Silver Age SG with a layered metafictional history. We tried to hardcore roleplay them all the time with few in-public OOC brackets but then there was this other element that they were all characters in the fictional Amazing Comics. We even had a fictional timeline of important events as our lore was decidedly different than the game lore. As I recall, the fact that we could never get the forums for the ASA running in-character most of the time was kind of frustrating for Tag and myself. At the same time, some of us were feeling that the ASA was kind of an odd duck within our coalitions, having our own detailed history that didn't match in-game and a very few other RPers seemed to like reference that fact. We talked about it extensively and decided to break our coalitions which we naively thought would be no big deal and ended up with months of drama. Simultaneously, we decided to expand our metafictional universe by creating a lot of other SGs under the Amazing Comics banner and since all of us were now "speaking" for multiple characters on the forums, in an effort to avoid multiple sign-ins, we came up with another metafictional layer of forum identities that evoked the fictional employees of the fictional Amazing Comics. It was getting a bit nutty. James Sheldon was editor Sal's assistant, nicknamed Bucky because he stuck close to him like a sidekick. We never 100% recovered from this and I think only like three of us were into it anyway. The All-Star Sentinels were in until the very end of the game but the Amazing Comics experiment led to so many bad feelings in an otherwise excellent community, it was a huge mistake. But, hey, I still have Bucky to remember it all by! Looking back, it probably would have been less effort just to try to make some real comics. Disclaimer: I am not the artist of any of these works. In most instances (though not all) I merely created the characters in City of Heroes. Sometimes, I directed the artist with lots of notes and other times I let them do their thing.
