  1. yes they will.

it is likely not you nor the controller. I got an older controller working late last night and will post the solution when I get back that computer.

(it was just a setting in options that I had long forgotten setting or didn't have to before)

    update:

typically all I had to do was Options > Keymapping > Keybind Profile > Joystick and then just set buttons. That always worked in the past.
this time, I had to also go Options > Controls > Game Controller and make sure it was toggled on USB joystick.
I don't remember having to do that before.

  2. Will try to download and install the "x64" Visual C++ package from Microsoft as suggested a number of times in different threads.

WORKED. That appears to have address the two errors.

Now to get the controller to work again. Currently behaves as if not even recognized. Device Manager does recognize it and it works for calibration there.

  3. and of course. New computer ordered a couple weeks back showed up today. I did a fresh Windows 10 install, removed remaining bloatware, updated drivers, updated graphics drives... and attempted to install the game.

following the instructions provided at: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/9526-frequently-asked-questions/

Hey look safe mode... uh oh.

    64-bit results in:

    Safe Mode works great.

So like a brand new player I'll go hunt for the solution.

  4. pst hey.. What,   you   need   something   specific?  Lemme know, I'll hook you up. (in-game of course)

the AH can be a bit buggy in this current version of the game. it's not the player.

few places like the Black Market/Action House where patience or planning can really pay off.

that said, there are big swings in the displayed prices. if someone is in a hurry they may pay a bit more but rarely more than double the average. If a person is patient even just a couple hours they typically save a bit or be able to then adjust their bid.

IF there are none or just one for sale and a lot of bids. It may take another channel to acquire that item (merits, convertors, a-'buddy'-like-me, super packs, etc).

I'm wondering how difficult it is to change some of the signs and textures they use to have different languages?

The billboards in the game were built to have rotating content on them so theoretically it may be possible to leverage that capability with relative ease.

Moving the billboard functionality to signs.. that could be a much bigger leap.

  6. While some of that maybe true for you. That is not everyone's experience.

My launcher was completely wiped including the taskbar icon that came with it. ( If anyone has the icon it would be great to get back. I think it may have had Statesman on it )

I could likely grab the mac with the non-functional version on it and take some additional pictures for you to argue with.

I used the test server I believe just in early December. Test servers come an go so it's removal was not novel.

  7. I think in this current version many people skip a lot of the content.

Someone can have dozens of 50s (not really a new player) and have never run many of the arcs, nor visited various neighborhoods in different zones, or out leveled contacts.

The game has always seemed to me incredibly creative and immersive with a vast variety of diverse content.

That's a silly position to take really.  Why add any new content then?  Stuff is already present in the game...

All you had to do was reply in some form of agreement or disagree.

Example: "Yes, there are ethnically diverse costume pieces, weapons, NPCs, etc. An even more immersive experience would be great."

Instead you've chosen to belittle my question and the comments of others. You've also assumed positions on new content.

Someone who wanted to argue could go through the game and point to all the examples where korean, chinese, japanese, italian, french, european, middle eastern ascetics are included.

I wasn't interested in arguing. I merely wanted to establish if you were aware of what was present or not.

    Why are you doing this?
Maintaining both the new (32-Bit / 64-Bit) and old (Safe Mode) clients in parallel is very time consuming severely limits our development capabilities. In order to move the game forwards we need to fully switch over to the new client.

I wonder if in the say the next 3 months this course of action doesn't consume more time than what they were trying to avoid in the first place.

Without more information I can't say for sure if it's a wash or worse.

I haven't seen the actual reason, tool or feature that is pushing this.

If I had to make an educated guess - folks have been using safe mode because there are more than a couple nasty tasks that now have to be tackled by volunteers. The punch list of bugs and compatibility issues could run on and on. Could be 200-300 hours of work chasing loose ends. I hope there is something awesome at the end of that joy ride.

It's still accessible if you, as is written in the first post, add http://patch.savecoh.com/safemode.xml to your manifests in Tequila/Island Rum.

I know you are attempting to be helpful so I'll be gentle.

    • A link to the instructions on how to use the manifest would be more helpful than a link to the safemode.xml which looks like code gobbledygook unless a person is familiar with xml.
    • Safe Mode is not accessible (fact) without following the instructions mentioned in the bullet point above and, again, missing from your response.
    • The instructions linked in the first post of this thread are for connecting to HC Beta (64-Bit) and HC-Beta (32-Bit).
    • The first post of this thread indicated " When will Safe Mode disappear entirely? It’ll likely be early this year ". I guess that's the same as today.
    • This implementation could have been handled much better.
    • I find your quote/response condescending, inaccurate, and woefully out of touch with the average player.

I'll see if I can figure it out.

I think it might also be prudent to double check that my private version of the code is functioning.

    -cheers

well it's been 3 months or so, and safe mode client is still there, the final kill it date sounds like it is waiting to see how many people are having issues and still using the legacy client

um.. it's been removed as well as the test server link (see screen shot below). The task bar icon was also changed and now resembles a trash can.

7 weeks could be generous, 3 months... maybe it's been discussed in circles, though I didn't see this thread until today.

I'll stick with the announcement Friday evening as the only pinned announcement with Safe Mode in the topic.

NCsoft follows up City of Heroes code copyright filing with fresh trademark application, January 2, 2020

"Today, we can add some more kindling to the speculation fire, as MMO Culture noticed that NCsoft filed a new trademark application for the long-sunsetted game just a few weeks ago. That website points out that players have tried and failed to legally acquire the game from the Korean megacorp for many years, but as we’ve been covering for the last nine (!) months, there’s quite a bit more to it than that."
