It is literally just numbers.  CoX does not have missions DESIGNED for certain level ranges.  It was just capped at that level.  There are not mechanics in CoX that require you to do certain things with certain abilities you only have at certain times.

COX was designed with some missions and enemies groups for specific level ranges. Some exist only at certain ranges. That you are unaware of this is okay. The game actually throws subtle new challenges at characters as they progress.

Folks can read up on issue 11 ay https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issue_11

    Ouroboros System/Flashback

Heroes and Villains can use the Flashback system to return to story arcs that they may have missed and replay hundreds of missions from earlier in the game. Players can set mission parameters for these missions to earn special badges. Heroes and Villains are auto-exemplared to the appropriate level for each story arc to ensure the challenge level remains constant.

Through the Menders of Ouroboros players become able through time and relive major events from the history of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Heroes who travel back in time can embark on missions such as preventing the Circle of Thorns from unleashing a powerful demon, a story originally presented in the City of Heroes comic book. Villains who journey through time can get the chance to assist Lord Recluse in his initial campaign to conquer the Rogue Isles, as well as other unconfirmed missions.

    fix to this problem

as designed and as intended. there is no problem.

at some point I hope those that spend extensive amounts of time in AE farming realize AE is a mini game inside a much larger game. I think some folks already know. Maybe they prefer the mini game, which is okay.

fyi some enemy groups are level limited. some missions are designed for certain level ranges. some missions or contacts were needed to open additional contacts and content. some missions earned badges.

That's..... totally not what I said.  Your post is contradictory.  You are on one hand saying let people play as they like while at the same time saying people should not use global chat channels to advertise.

    Absolutely.

So is being against real world $$ or pay to win scenarios while saying let people do as they like. At some point, most folks recognize a line.

The topic WAS about charging for power leveling.

My opinion = It's not cool and could lead to other issues if done in global channels. Do I care if someone makes a deal on the side, no.

Your opinion = "If someone has the in-game financial means and feels the service they are receiving is worth the price they are paying, then there is no exploitation whatsoever." .."so I do not see the perceived problem here."  (I feel the same, if done privately (I wouldn't do it though))

The more folks see it in game the more it becomes the norm. There is a logical evolution which is potentially undesirable.

I'm okay with putting an opinion out there while still being open to other opinions or better ideas.

    Thanks for the reply. -Troo

  4. The 64-bit client has significant rubberbanding for my brand new computer with updates installed.

On a previous computer in October rubberbanding was an issue at one point and a reason for initially moving to safe mode. I did quite a bit of trouble shooting this side. It was indicated that it was a known issue and being addressed.

    Feels like going in circles.

  5. Ooo a request for opinions!

Folks should be and are able to play how they want.

If someone wants to trade a buddy some leveling assistance, no problem.

If someone is generous enough to help some strangers out, good on them.

If someone wants to sell power leveling, farmed enhancements or accounts for real world money... whoa hold on, that's a problem.

Somewhere, I believe there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. That seems to be the general consensus.

In my opinion that line starts with broadcasting in global channels.

If someone broadcasts an offer to trade farm runs, I have no problem with that. If someone sends a private tell to the person offering trades and says they be willing to pay.. I don't really have a problem with that. I don't have a problem with folks using the farm channels or super groups that power level members.

Broadcasting the selling of power-leveling = more broadcasting requests to pay for power leveling, which eventually = someone trading real world $$.

I understand everything that has been said but it does not address my point.  The game simultaneously suggests that a HO is the equal worth 80, 37, and 25 merits.  I already know how those merit rewards were calculated.  However, if there is an alternate reward to the HO, the merit values don't make sense.  Furthermore, those average times have pretty much been shredded by top, and even mid-skill level players.

So they TFs should be worth less merits due to times being 'shredded'.. Is that what your suggesting?

OP isn't talking about buying HOs directly with merits, but rather the merit cost of choosing the HO instead of taking merits.

    Choices.

On occasion, I pay more for an enhancement than I need to because I want it sooner.

The OP has said the game suggests "a HO is the equal worth 80, 37, and 25 merits". There is no simple linear correlation.

Take the merits if the HO is unwanted.

Some HOs may be worth more to a player than others. Is the one I want worth 80 merit? Hell yeah! Is the one I don't want worth 80 merits.. not to me but maybe to someone else. Is a chance at a HO worth 25 merits. In my opinion there's no question, other folks may have a different view.

    Choices.

can't buy Hamidon Origin enhancements with merits.

HO became a relic of a pre IO set era and one only worth getting if you saw IOs and sets as too much trouble to learn about

whoa whoa.. Hamidon Origin enhancements play pretty nice with Invention Origin enhancements for some 'advanced' or 'exotic' builds. Feel free to send your unwanted HOs this way.

  8. @Leogunner Makes me wanna ask.. so should folks not playing with IOs get higher rewards thus adding incentive for playing a more challenging.. okay I'm just joking but there could be something there.

    To all:

To me the speed bump in COX has always been diminishing rewards.

Let folks go as fast or be as overpowered as they want. Let folks play the way they want. Shoot we'll even let you skip the majority of the game if you like. We just won't let players then abuse rewards or a game mechanic.

  9. COX is super replay-able. I'm just wondering if there are additional ways we could challenge our characters or teams.

Some games have challenge modes. So does this one. We can set missions to have higher difficulties and add timers, travel power usage, number of deaths, etc. They are mostly related to missions already in the game. However the game doesn't cover all the kinds of challenge modes.

    Troo idea #1

Infinite mode. One thing we don't have is infinite enemies.

    Troo idea #2

Boss mode. Same is above but with a progression of final bosses, heroes, and arch villains.

    Troo idea #3

    Leader boards.

    Troo idea #4

Leader board mode. Similar to boss mode but this time, we take on copies of the characters on top of the current leader boards.

What other ideas are out there?

In full disclosure, I was a developer on a game that had this mechanic and I think the system would work well for City of Heroes. I would not actually implement it in the main game for reasons described in the original post. It would be a way to make end-game content more exciting without destroying characters who haven't been armored.

If it didn't typically effect average/most players and was only there for outliers I'm okay with that. I like the idea of something that increases the challenge for choosing to increase the difficulty. It's reasonable for +4/8 to be more challenging than it is. It does seem like a lot of effort for a skinny slice of the player population.

I can also see where folks suggest it could add grind for many which would be a concern. COX is a pretty long game with high replay-ability.

  11. put it on test, let's see.

I think the biggest problem is its not fun for those of us that remember it as it was - not that it can't be made to do pretty decent damage.

Corpse-blastingtm is the problem. The set has a couple big hitters that often don't end up hitting anything. That would be awful even if I never played it before.

yes I totally stole corpe-blasting and threw a tm on it.

  12. It's possible folks over think this one.

At one point Energy Melee was fun to play and very effective (okay maybe too effective). That version of the game is looong gone.

    Just change the set back.

It won't be top dog in the current version. It's not gonna be the top farmer or displace AoE monsters. It'll be fun though and folks will play it.

If for some very unlikely reason it did break the game, then we address that. In my not so humble opinion it's pretty unlikely.
