Firefox memory/power usage on HC Forums
Tachstar replied to Tachstar's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
Looks like the recent update to Firefox cleared this up. -
I grew up on a farm. Tobacco. And beef cattle, which of course meant bailing hay to feed them in winter. We didn't do the big rolls of hay like so many do now. We did the smaller rectangular bales, which we would stack on a wagon and haul to the barn. I remember this one time, after putting a wagon-load of hay in the barn, I sneezed 21 times in a row. And this other time I decided I was gonna drive the tractor, but I'd never driven the tractor before and didn't know where the brake was, so when we went down the hill... well, people were moving faster than K-mart shoppers at a blue light special. And another time I picked up a bale of hay and there was a snake hanging out of it. I was the one moving fast that time. Anyway, we now return you to your regularly scheduled forum follies. (disclaimer: not the actual tractor, barn, or hay mentioned in the preceding anecdote.)

Only two of my guys haven't been able to hang so far: level 38 FF/BR defender and (surprisingly) my level 45 SR/MA tanker, who would have run out of endurance long before the vamp dude even needed a band-aid. Egad. As previously mentioned, they were no trouble for my electric/martial blaster. I think he may be vet level 27. At least T3 on the incarnate stuff, maybe T4 on some, I forget. I had to look up that new (to me) SHOCKED thing to see what it was actually doing. Shocking! But cool. Also good: vet level 2 stone/stone stalker with T2 alpha (the one for accuracy, and she still misses too damn much). Mister mummy never showed up for her, though, so who knows how that would have gone, but the vamp dude came out enough that she got the badge for him. And (surprisingly) my level 44 plant/savage dom, who only encountered the witch (twice!) but whupped her readily enough, although the fight dragged on and on. And on. Kinda fun, seeing which ones can handle those guys. -

When one of my guys makes it to 50, I consider him or her or it a keeper. Or else they'd never have made it to 50. However! I wouldn't mind being able to 'bank' the levels on a character that just isn't working for me and apply them to a new character. Like, say, if I played a (hypothetical) Onion Armor/Trout Slap tanker up to level 20 and came to the conclusion that this was absolutely the worst combo of powers and AT ever, it would be cool if I could apply those 'been there/done that' levels to a new Tequila Popper Blast/Banana Pudding Manipulation blaster. I don't mean playing 10 new guys to level 5 and then deleting them and applying 50 levels to one new character, I mean on a one to one basis. Delete Super Duper Puper Man and apply his 'banked' levels to Hyper Diaper Wiper Man. Maybe banking the earned XP would work better... and maybe only on a character marked as a 'trial run' character. Or something. I dunno. As an altoholic among altoholics, I've played through those early levels a bunch of times...

Zombies crashed my ToTing! I was all by myself in a little corner of PI so there were no gratuitous BAMs! and ZLONKs! and BIFFs! splattered across the screen, and I could, like, actually see stuff. And lo! One of the zombies had a traffic cone on its head. Is this something new? Or something one is only likely to see when (reverb) alone in the dark (/reverb)? I don't recall ever seeing such a thing before. Neither do I recall what I had for lunch yesterday... but that's beside the point. The point being... ahhh... pointy? Say! Could we have traffic cones for hats, too? So fashionable! -

My level 38 FF/BR defender knocked on a door and was summarily clobbered by a puff of smoke with red eyes. My incarnated electric/mc blaster knocked on a bunch of doors in PI and is one spectral werewolf away from having all the badges for those new guys. The mummy dude is the toughest for him -- sometimes it hangs on to that last sliver of, uh, unlife? quite stubbornly. But it's just a matter of time, and meanwhile Mr Mummy's blue bar is, well, not very blue. Haven't tried them with anything else yet. I can only take so much ToTing before my eyes glaze over. Not in a fun way. -

I liked this show fine up until the last episode, was making fun of all the haters, so I'm kinda surprised at how much the last episode disappointed me. As in, I hated it. I mean, come on. Why not have step out of a shower? Heh. Seriously, though, just not a fan of the 4th wall thing. It pulls me out of the story. I like stories that pull me in, ya know? Immerrrrrsion, and all that. I know 4th wall breaks were a thing back in the Byrne run of the comic, but I didn't like it there, either. Oh, well. I hope I did the spoiler thing right. -
Farther! Further? Uh. MOAR!

One insta 50 a month! Bad idea or Brainstorm?!?
Tachstar replied to Snarky's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Wut! That's when you roll a NEW character! Well. Another new character. Hmm. I should do a head count. I know I have 151 on Indom. Not sure about the other servers... I will say that I wouldn't mind an insta-50 or two... or eleven... I'd bring back my golden oldies from the old days. I've recreated them all, of course, but the temptation to play as yet unplayed sets and combos won out over reliving past glories. Played some BDO but I don't remember what level my highest level character there is. It's the one with the black pet thingy, though, whatever that is. -
Firefox memory/power usage on HC Forums
Tachstar replied to Tachstar's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
I noticed that with my current custom NoScript settings some of the forum icons or buttons or whatever they are look kinda weird, but they still function. Not sure what that means, if anything. Anyway, since I changed the settings I've been able to have multiple Firefox tabs open, play the game, and also have a different browser open with no troubles at all. Which is how things have always, been prior to yesterday. -
A couple of times yesterday my PC mysteriously ground to a halt, and after some investigation the culprit looked to be Firefox chowing down excessively on memory/power -- but only when I was on the HC forums! It happened more than once, and it's happened again this morning as I was testing it. All other websites = fine. HC 'Home' page = fine. Click to read a thread and BOOM, the memory and power usage would start climbing until I couldn't close Firefox without using Task Manager. At one point even Task Manager was 'not responding'. Anyway, I changed the HC Forums setting in NoScript to Default and browsed around (not logged in) with no issues. Then I tried a custom setting (see image) -- all good. Logged in and have been browsing and posting with no issues. Has anybody else experienced anything similar here? Anybody have any idea what could be causing it? I know less than Jon Snow when it comes to this kinda stuff. Whatever it is, it started yesterday.

I played a seismic/stone sent up to level 6 on the test server the other day and it felt pretty good. I didn't notice any range shortages, and at one point I even thought the cone attack's range was pretty darn, ah, rangey. Then I played a pistols/wp there and my immediate reaction was, why do I have to get so close to shoot these guys? I checked the numbers on both sets and they were the same, so it was entirely a perception thing on my part. 'These pistols are defective! Wait, maybe it's the bullets. Defective gunpowder! Yeah, that's the ticket.' Anyway, I gradually bumped the pistols/wp sentinel up to level 50 and it turned out pretty good, even with just SOs. Added it to my roster of sentinels on the live servers -- highest level ones there being dark/bio and psi/dark, both at 21. I've also been using mostly cryo ammo on the pistols, as I feel the slow effect offers the most benefit vs big crowds.

I'm a player and I never asked (for example) for hover and fly to be on simultaneously. I don't recall seeing a big demand for that. Maybe there was. /e shrug But I would rather have them be mutually exclusive. I liked it better that way. I don't like that turbo speed thing popping up when I activate fly, either. I was pretty aggravated with the change to the AH teleport thing, too. Little things like that are what finally got me to try another server, hoping to find something closer to how it was in (puts on Posi colored glasses) the Good Old Days. Which at the end weren't all that good, IMO. /e Galaxy City Forever! It seems like a lot of what's being done is for the sake of convenience, to make the overall game experience easier, faster, less trouble. To get through the game quicker, for some reason? What's the hurry? Where's the fire? Get off my lawn! Uh. Anyway. Need food. Laters!

Now you're getting it! Spoken like a true Patch Note Reactor! Welcome to the don't fix what ain't broken club! Welcome! But if I was in charge I'd change things so that every attack that hits gets half the endurance cost back, and every attack that misses gets twice the endurance cost back. Now that would be some serious QoL! Woo!

I have a theory! Sentinels are nearsighted with astigmatism. Actually, she might make it to 50. I've been playing some of my long-neglected sentinels a lot more over the past few days and it's been a lot of fun, so... But yeah. The range thing. I really don't get why that's a thing, given the name of the archetype. /e more fuel on the fire
