Ow. I find ice Melee pretty damn good for exemplaring, but I also use Frost for my melee rotation and have Frozen Fists slotted as a mule (which gives it the raw stats to be used as a leveling/exemplaring attack). Despite FF being bad we can plod along with Frost- FF - Ice Sword - FF until 26.

@hejtmane's problem was trying to use the box instead of going outside of it. My advice for using Frost stemmed from the time I used a Stalker with Ice Melee (my first serious Ice Melee experience) and found the awkward AS recharge making gaps. That's when I (reluctantly) started using Frost for ST and while not brilliant it does one thing great: smoothing the rotation.

Suddenly Freezing Touch - Ice Sword - Frost - Ice Sword becomes a forgiving mid level rotation that shines in 90% of the game since 90% of the game is hitting multiple enemies. Just keep hitting the boss with minimal repositioning and the rest of the spawn will be dead by the time it has been killed. This approach is good enough that I stopped using Frozen Aura (but I'm a weirdo, don't necessarily try to do this) since 'ST-ing' the boss killed the spawn around it.

But yes, using an AoE drags the set down. AoEs do less damage because they hit multiple enemies. They are also more expensive in endurance. The animations are long. But, consider how 90% of the game is hitting multiple enemies. GiS and FT definitely ought to change places though.

There are things like adding epic snipes to help the ST, but they are not available for every rotation (same problem I had with AS' awkward recharge making it available only every two rotations).

With more recharge from a secondary or buffs FT - Ice Sword - Frost becomes possible. I sacrifice too much to raise my S/L defenses up and so my recharge isn't the best and even so I'm half a second from making that last rotation gapless.

While using Frost looks all sorts of wrong and even more on a spreadsheet the numbers it puts out (on a Tanker where I tested) are just slightly behind a Claws character downing a pylon 15-20 seconds later. And we know in the 'real game' the smash/slash resistances is going to put Ice ahead.

Frost ends being a good place for the Scrapper crit proc too. Since it hits multiple mobs it has multiple chances to go off and will buff FT and Ice Sword, and it's a skill that will be used both ST and AoE.

My Ice rad tanker aoe : Ground Zero Proc bomb / Dark obli / Frozen aura / frost

St : Priority Freezing touch / Gloom / frost / filler depending of what's up and if things to agro

And my ice rad scrapper is the same but i just swap ice sword between each attack cause i use the 50% crit on it, have Moonbeam instead of gloom and no dark obliteration, instead Shadow meld to mitigate damage spikes (to let my absorb/barrier/heal coming back)

I have no complaints about Frost and Frozen aura with ice patch and the damage at the top end is all find and dandy.  My issue was leveling I went from 1 to 49 without using any double xp I grinded it out all fashion style mission, teaming and TF's no farms  etc etc. The issue was Frozen Fist is terrible at lower levels for leveling and while I used GIS starting at 18 it was clunky while leveling from 18 to 49.

If ice mélée have an issue, it's his leveling. As super strenght, Ice mélée is a top endgame set. Exemplar and leveling is kinda horrible.

Sort of price to pay to be top tier with a lvl 50 fully set / accolade.

But trust me, ice mélée is very underated and i'm sure it will shine later.

  3. Ice Mélée is very similar to Warmace : built around 1 Big DPA power.

Freezing touch is stronger than the all mighty Clobber, can slot 2 purple Damage proc and Ice damage is generally WAY less resist than smash. Warmace have the advantage of the FF recharge io and a very strong soft Crowd control power, having nothing to envy to Titan weapons and Super strenght.

Ice mélée is a "baby" step behind WM in aoe but provide Frozen aura as a 360 pbaoe sleep power with almost the DPA of Crowd control, opening you Chance to heal and Chance to placate io, and being so much better than Whirling Mace. In the aoe department, the ice patch is life saver while leveling and Frost is one of the best mélée cone power, just take a look a the Fire breath... :x

"Greater" ice sword is bad, but it's a T7. So this is ok.

Ice mélée just lack a good way to force the 50% crit io and being centered around one power, everytime FT miss, it's a disaster, Dps wise and make the rotation kinda random : a ice scrapper can overdamage allmost any mélée set or being average, but never bad.

As stated before, Ice mélée is stronger with a stalker, cause the ice Assassin strike, while not being the stronger of the game, patch the "GIS" hole and provide another Strong DPA power.

So, To be honnest, don't expect any major change to a set able to compete with the "all mighty" Warmace 🙂

    Misc clicks replace Radioactive Smash

    Hybrid ON

    1:16 = 632 DPS

    1:17 = 625 DPS

    Hybrid OFF

    1:19 = 613 DPS

    1:19 = 613 DPS

Easily my favorite build this month. For the last year, I thought on scrappers only stj/bio could reach 600+ dps (outside of tw/bio, obviously). At least the way I build my own characters, which may involve suboptimal choices.

But getting into the mindset of breaking sets and having absolutely no local recharge to maximise proc rate, and building attack chains around a full snipe crit + another crit does wonders.

While Street Justice sacrifices AoE output to get to those heights, Rad Melee has Atom Smasher for active destruction, and both Irradiated Ground and Contamination passively add AoE damage to your ST attack chain. Yum. It's TW in spirit without being so absurdly over the top in damage, but also without having to deal with Momentum. A fair price to pay for convenience.

Could use (many) more Pylon runs to get better estimates, but I also ran this character through Pylons as she was building her incarnates and saw a steady rise from 550ish while on Cardiac and low Hybrid/Degen to where we're at now. Fun.

    Ice Melee/Bio Armor/Moonbeam Scrapper

Average of 1:35 across a lot of runs. Same as my TW/BIO/MA's average now.

Crazy streaky for some reason. I've almost come to expect Freezing Touch to miss.

    I just got a 1:07 and a 1:54. WTF.

i noticed that too on my Rad Armor / ice tanker ^^

  6. I spent several months doing only solo itf runs at max settings and never ever had an av running with rad armor tanker with darkest night. Radiation toggle debuff used to, sometimes, make holder running in issue 14+. At least when i mained my ice rad Cor. I saw this like 2 or 3 times with rad debuff on HC when i was tanking speedruns with my tw bio scrapper.

  7. my SD EM itrial build with the lowest buff of Ageless Radial, on top of, with such def, i m not really often affect by anything

    image.png.8a0df1bf85707cf3fe81805391c4b366.png

And shield, as SR, is the king of cc prot with the double stack of Active defence, making it almost immune to the stupid terrorize effect.

I have an Ele/SD broot who is an AOE master, maybe I roll a SD tank.

    yeah SD tanker are awesome.

Invul and granite should be more "immortal" but the buff aspect with the ageless radial / grant cover combo + the debuff (aoo + darkest night) option + the ability to burst like no other of EM with aoo make it a great and funny AT to play in team.

I love my rad tankers but the lack of real (by real i mean with DDR) defences is a thing while fighting heavy debuffing enemies.

    Oh right Shield.

I always forget about that one, since I don't like the one handed animations and the stance and so forth.  But Shield is really good for a Unstoppable Contender.

DDR is stackable, High Def, Decent Resists, and lots of Damage fringe benefits.

yeah and SD provides DDR and def, not to mention phalanx fighting for self def

  10. for "every day all road" gameplay i use my SD EM tanker with a special "itrial" build

    image.png.840a593941a2be356dd344fa7f9df896.png

With cardiac T4 / mélée core res T4 / wedding band / demonic aura / one with the shield and defensive amplifier if needed to max out by myself all the def for master itrial run or MO lgtf.

got taunt / darkest night / gloom to manage agro (the end use here is with both super speed and darkest night)

EM + AOO pack quite a punch.

Grant cover + ageless radial gives to all the light people around me to have better def and DDR.

Take Invuln vs Fiery Aura. Invulnerability proved it could stand there at max difficulty with basic slotting + some common pool powers and be immortal. Fiery Aura far from that with a low survival average without use of other tools. If both sets have access to the same tools to supplement them, outside of an all-psy map, Invuln would still be wayyyyyy tougher by a similar magnitude, no?

I always apreciate your kindness and patience and dedication to your testings🙂

But you know what i think of "SO" content.

Now, could you explain me the différence of result between your test and mine about Shield Tanker ?

Other than Tanker, what’s EM best on?

EM is awesome on armor who dont need active defence, Granite, invul, shield, SR and so on.

It works really well on Rad but for team content : i have a Rad / EM one with 80+ psi resist : she's the perfect team meatshield but is far far less tanky than shield or even invul.

During my testing for this only AT run, i first try on Invul and to be honnest it was a blast : my shield EM can solo Romu but she can die a any moment ; i forgot once my invul / em tanker only AT in front of romu nictus lvl 54 with NO auto power... i came back 1 hour later, she was still alive.

Scrappers get a lot out of it. ET heals on a crit, and with TF 20 base recharge and the Critical Strikes proc, you get the choice to crit at will.

Low DPE (ET costs 0 end) and lenient recharge requirements (EP/BS/TF and slow ET all have great, mostly similar DPA) gives scrappers a chance to grab Barrier or Rebirth, too, rather than Ageless.

i m ok but i still prefer EM on stalker for dps : Assassin and energy focus works so good together, as it is for STJ.

But it's on tanker that i feel EM the best.

No. The numbers show a slice of reality. Nothing more, nothing less.

SR not at the softcap sucks horribly. But folks don't run around talking about how much SR sucks in actual play.

Edit: Well... some do but those people are stupid.

yeah it seems that Shield is not really tough too 😄

    • Musculature T4
    • Ion jugement T4
    • Degen T4
    • Banished T4
    • Assaut core T4 / mélée resistance T4
    • Ageless radial T4 / Rebirth regen T4

Yeah that's a ton of incarnates but being now in the Cosmic Council help me a looottt : cause on top of being adorables human beings, we clear so many itrials and endgame content compare to what i had on Reunion, it's night and day.

Having an amazing SG changes the whole game experience, even for a f....g Diva as me 😄

So 🙂 it's obviously a specific build for the task 😛

Only AT power is a good challenge to make a build work. I think this is the step where no tanker AT will have real issues.

I made it to Romu nictus with my Rad / SS tanker with a only at build but without the bump in dps of Gloom / dark obli (carry by rage² and meltdown) my poor tanker was unable to kill Romu nictus because of the essence drain at 3000 hp.

I tried with an Invul / EM tanker but same issue, she could stay all day long in front of romulus nictus but with a bit too low neg defence, the essence drain was too much.

The 3 first missions was far easier than i could expect. I quickly notice that without tactics i was lacking just a bit of accuracy. Once this issue solved, this was a walk in the park :

    • M1 : only free the hostages, then rush to the altar, classic.
    • M2 : only crystals by abusing cap agro and making the ambush running (with only ninja run, that was not as easy than superspeed but just enough, used mélée T4 core here)
    • M3 : Mélée core T4 for the generals, assaut for the AV + console Killing the 2 av near the console, romu first. then the console. (AOO makes things so easy here, even debuff, EM is really top tier in ST damage)

    Till i arrive in M4.

My "patch" to solve the accuracy was barely enough to cover basic traitors, so Romu Nictus himself... i think i spent more than 50 freaking minutes just to kill him and his balls of hell.

The Nictus were quite easy, by saturating agro, @Werner style, i solo kill the balls with ease (well i had to swap my ageless radial T4 for rebirth regen T4) Auto hit, then healer then sumoner, classic. I had "park" Imperius not far of Romu Nictus and i planned to take him to help me, once the nictus down.

But 1) Romu sword spin destroyed imperius and my banished lore 2) if wanted to use 10 targets to push my dps with AOO, Romu was suddenly able to hit a lot more than usual so... i had to kill him 1 vs 1, with the "Player debuffed" setting directly in my face.

So i found a new way to use the new Energy focus gimmick : by using the focus on Barrage to stun Romu as much as possible when the lore was up and kitting him just enough to force him to move and not using his sword spin, allowing the banished to destroy him, regen debuffed and stunned by the focus Barrage (under Assaut Core) . God i love the Energy rework 🙂

Copied the freshly lvl 50 em/bio scrap to beta and got her all tricked out. With Assault Core: 1:40. Without it, 2:20. Would be ridiculous if I never missed. To be honest, though, I'm not sure I'll ever really build her out on live. While the pylon time is nice, bio's survivability is lacking at the high end. Although, she's got 2047 HP and Ablative Carapace is adding another 1096 Absorption, so that ain't nothin to sneeze at.

    ...

Also, I'm a dumbass. Forgot to turn on Offensive Adaptation.

1:20 with assault, 1:35 without. Honestly, that's not much better than what my claws/bio scrapper gets.

Come to think on it, it makes sense due to ET and TF not properly critting.

Stop hit on Gogo dancers in Pocket D and stay Focus !

  17. Power Crash is a leveling power on Brutes, Tankers and scrappers. Any aoe as Fireball, Ball Lightning or Dark Obliteration will be a better choice, Maths wise.

    It's still a viable power.

The only AT where PC is an Absolute Must Have is on Stalker.
