  1. As the one that asked if OP would show some figurative ankle on the build, I'd like to publicly say thanks (and again, thanks very much for the email!).

     

    I am planning a new Blaster and I'm curious to see how much of this design/gameplay ethos I can emulate.  I won't lie though, I look at this build and feel like one of those guys who looks at a Formula 1 car and thinks, "That'd be awesome to drive," even though they'd be about 97% certain to die the first time they took a turn.  😁

  2. So I finally got this character up to 50 last night.  For her Alpha slot, I'm going Musculature.  What Destiny works for something like this?  My first impulse was Barrier, but I'm wondering if that might be overkill?  Love some feedback.

    Beat me to it here.  My own Psi/WP is 49 now, and has been a ton of fun.

     

    Don't let the crowd saying "bUt PsI DAmAgE iS ReSiStED" sway you.  I didn't find it to be any worse than what any other damage type faces.  Yes, robots are a bit of a pain but that's what Electromagnetic Grenades are for.

  4. @Microcosm: First off, thanks for the feedback.

     

    Second point, I don't think I meant for Light Form to use the Gladiator's Armor set (as I said, trying to do this on the cheap, and the ATOs were about as rich as I wanted to go).  That was supposed to be Unbreakable Guard (all the parts that give Rchg, and the +Max HP piece).  I'll figure out where else I want to move that slot from Gleaming Bolt, good point there.

    Just like the subject line says.  Goal was to basically make a Perma-Light tri-form, and keep it from becoming a billion-dollar endeavor.  I'm sure I could've gotten Def higher if I'd been willing to make other concessions, but I'm not sure I want to make any more cuts (designing Khelds always drove me up a wall sideways, even moreso than other characters).

    I think the advice about slotting Hot Feet for Slow is also smart.

  8. I know nothing of D2, so I can't comment on what "like Frozen Orb" would go, but Voltaic definitely needs something. 

     

    A no brainier change that could happen without upending balance would be to make it last longer.  Having to refresh that thing once a minute is awful.  (Which, I know, isn't HC's fault, just saying.)

    So in addition to the Beam/Invuln I posted a few hours ago, I blew a thick layer of dust off my Rad^2 this week as well.  She's 42 and so far, feels a little squishy.  She has next to none of the Sets listed here, so I'm sure she'll toughen up as I go, but again, I wanted some feedback on where I'm looking to take her.

  10. Hi everyone,

     

    Like it says in the subject line.  I've gotten this guy up to 32, and I figured I'd subject his build to a little "open review," let folks see if they think I missed anything.

     

    In big groups, my tactics are

    1) Disintegrate, on the toughest target available.

    2) Lancing shot to spread Disintegrate.

    3) Refractor Beam.

    3a) Cutting Beam, if and only if I'm positioned such that I can nab multiple guys with the cone; if I'm in the middle of a furball, forget it.

    4) Piercing Beam.

    4a) Mop up.

     

    The T1 and T2 are there really just for tagging stragglers, and for low-level exemplar availability.  I just got Overcharge, and haven't yet figured out how/where to fit that in.  (I suspect the answer is "Any time it's up and with great glee.")

     

    Defenses look like they'll be adequate.  A touch under S/L resist cap, and typed defenses ranging from 35-40%.

     

    If anyone sees places to tighten this up a bit without drastically changing the build, I'm all ears.

  11. Hey there,

     

    So I'm continuing to flesh out some of the characters that I've h been meaning to make for a while, and one of the villains would best be built by this power set combination.  Anyone done this?  I don't know Savage Melee at all, and I haven't really played an Ice Armor character since about 2010, and that was as a Tanker.  Anyone got any words of advice before I start?

    Well to be sure, "wider than Shadow Maul" is a long way from "wide."  🙂  I kept Proton Sweep in my Tanker's build, where the AOE increase makes it more usable, but on my Brute I ditched it.

    I'm well aware of Psionic damage's issues in the late game, I have an MC/Psi Dom that is a recreation of one of my mains from the Live era.  This is not my first rodeo here.  🙂

     

    I'm glad to hear you don't think WP is "softcap or bust."  I got my defenses pretty darned high, but not into softcap territory.  Independent of when you sent your build, I came up with the following.  She's only 14 right now but rounding up nicely.

  14. Hey there,

     

    So like the subject line says, I'm strongly considering making my next character a Psi Melee/Willpower Scrapper.  I tried out Psi Melee last fall, and that's fine, but anything I ever knew about how to build/slot a Willpower character has evaporated over time.  Anyone got any advice on this one?  If you've played this recently, care to "show a little ankle" on a build?

    After playing this guy a bunch over the weekend, I'm not ready to say (Sudden Accel + Bonfire) > (Ice Slick) from a control standpoint, which is what I want from it.  Don't get me wrong, it's very good, and vast improvement over how Bonfire works when it's Knockback, but the proc rate seems to be juuust low enough that some guys can keep their footing long enough to beat the crap out of me, much more so than with Ice Slick.

  17. Two quick notes about the Mind/Psi combo:

    1) Mesmerize is at least worth a look because, regardless of whether Domination is up or down, it can apply to most Bosses in a single shot.

    2) Going */Psi Assault and going ranged-only (thus skipping Psi Shockwave) is like looking at the vegetarian section of the menu at a BBQ joint.  🙂

It's so funny that the two of you both replied to this today, which is what, nine months later.  I say that because I finally got around to leveling up my Fire/Fire Dominator, and just yesterday, I got him high enough to slot Bonfire and drop a Sudden Acceleration piece in it.  Stupid amounts of fun.  😄
