The Future - An Open Letter from the Homecoming Team
Saikochoro replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
except we're rightfully bothered that the game has already been changed and a lot of people are unhappy with the changes. homecoming says they've received "overwhelming support" despite never once to my knowledge putting out a poll or survey regarding the current changes between i24-i25. They're manufacturing a narrative. If you are bothered by the changes then why are you playing on Homecoming? There are several other servers that don’t have as many changes, but I doubt those will remain unchanged for long. Homecoming has a much higher population than any other servers by a huge margin. I think that speaks to some support for their version. I for one very much like the homecoming version. Most people I have spoken with are overwhelmingly positive of homecoming and the changes. If you don’t like it hop on one of the other servers. -
Quick question on the memorization badges. I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong. I think in the OP it stated the memorization badges kick in around after crafting 8 or 9 of a certain IO (might have totally misread that). I have crafted probably 24 accuracy and 24 damage level 25 IOs on my crafter toon and don’t have the recipes memorized. Is there something in addition to crafting that I need to do to get the badge? It would definitely make it cheaper to outfit my alts if I get the memorization badges.

When I asked about leveling slotting the advice I got was to use level 25 IO as they will save money in the long run since they don’t level out. I originally was slotting 3 accuracy, but switched to just 2 after asking some more questions. It is pretty pricey to slot out full level 25 IOs, but I was able to do it. Might not be the best thing to do, but since I am not working on any sets I sold my orange salvage and got about 5 million infamy and that was more than enough to pay for a set of 25 IOs. They have been working great so far. I also do the IO tutorial at the steel canyon university on each alt for the level 25 IO reward.

I'd be fine with that change. And I'm saying that as someone who doesn't have a 50 yet due to altitis. If you want a limit, limit yourself. Don't worry about what others are doing. My suggestion had nothing to do with limiting myself. It was about limiting other people so they have to do something else instead of just mindlessly repeating DFB until they're level 30. The point of that isn't even the limit on them, it's to make it possible to get on teams doing other things. Which I currently can't find on my server except after level 20 at the lowest. Once in a huge while someone advertises for a Posi TF, but that's it. I could probably get a team together if I lead it, but social anxiety, really rather not. I want the old days when I could expect to find KR Radio teams, Frostfire arc teams, etc advertising in LFG basically every day. But there's nothing but DFB now. Why should you have the right to dictate how others play? If you don’t want to run DFB, then don’t. It’s beyond ridiculous to think that everyone else should cater to how you think they should play. They are playing for them not you. You can limit yourself if you so chose, but you don’t get the right to force a limitation on others. It’s not all about you. I see advertisements for Kings Row radio missions every night. I see advertisements for task forces every night. I see advertisements for other content than DFB every few seconds during prime time. And every few minutes when it’s really late. There is plenty of opportunity for grouping up outside of DFB.

Some people(like me) prefer to get to 50 then go back and do lower level missions and Task Forces. It's fine if you want to do it a more traditional way. What's not fine is you asking for the game to be adjusted for everybody else so they have to play the way you want them to play. Not true. Form your own teams. Whenever I want to do something specific I form the team and use the LFG channel and it has worked every single time without fail. Exactly. I also prefer to get to 50 and then go back. I hate slogging through the lower levels. People can level as slowly or as fast as they want. I don’t get these “but you should have to earn it people” trying to dictate how everyone else should play the same. It’s ridiculous. They have every right to turn off Xp or run certain missions if they so choose. Nobody is stopping them. I also have zero problem finding teams. Every time I have advertised a non-DFB team it is filled within a couple minutes at most. -
I’m wondering what people prefer: battle axe or war mace. I’m not really looking to top dps meters. I’m more looking to have several attacks that put up big numbers and just feel good landing. Looking at the wiki it seems like both of these have several attacks in the superior and extreme category. They both seem pretty similar per the wiki. I’ll most likely make one of both, but I never actually tried out either of these back in the day. I just don’t know which to start first. Anyone have any experiences they want to share? Do people generally like one over the other?

They are putting in a naming policy that unlocks names of toons that don’t log in in a given time frame. It doesn’t automatically change the name, just makes it available if people try using it. Toons in most in most danger I think that have to merely log in once per 30 days to keep their name locked. I think that is a super low level though. I think you have a year to login at level 21 or something like that. And names are perma locked at level 50. Might be slightly off in the levels. Easy to still keep any names you want, but give name squatters more work to do. -

This is not an epidemic. I see people advertising task force groups all the time. I also see radio and other mission groups forming constantly. I have easily filled radio mission groups that I post. I also have an easy time joining one that is advertised. I also have an easy time finding or filling a DFB group when I want to. DFB is a great way to get leveled up quickly for those that don’t want to do the low level content and prefer mid level content. There is nothing wrong with this. Even when I first started the game back in the day before DFB I wished for something like it. For those that don’t want to do DFB they don’t have to. For those that do want it they should have the choice. People should not have to play how you want them to. Many of the people doing DFB will probably enjoy task forces and other content in the mid to high levels. -
Awesome! Any time limit between renames? Just don’t want to lose one of the names in the switch. Don’t much care if I lose the other.
-
Sorry if this has already been answered. I know there is a rename button on the character selection screen. I haven’t used it yet, but wanted to rename one of my toons without remaking it. I’m at work so can’t see what happens when I click on it. Do we get however many renames as we want or do we have to earn/buy rename tokens? Reason I ask is because I find that I’m playing a certain toon more than another and I want my more played toon to have a name that one of my other toons has, but don’t want to delete either. Just want to switch the names. If we earn/buy them can someone point me in the right direction as to how/where?

Well I guess I’ve been over slotting accuracy haha. Should have asked before I started making all the accuracy IOs. Guess I have some to send to alts now. What are some examples of factions (CoT, freakshow, etc) that have high defense/to hit Debuffs? So I know when to carry a few yellows.
-
I’m using level 25 common IOs since they about equivalent to SOs. I have several combos of scrappers, stalkers, and brutes. Have a couple blasters and will be starting a dom soon. So it was really just a super general question on accuracy. I didn’t want to cut out one IO worth of damage for accuracy if I didn’t need to. If I need to though I’m perfectly fine doing it (already am 3 slotting accuracy).
-
I hate to miss my attacks when I hit NPCs so I have been 3 slotting level 25 common accuracy IOS on all of my attacks. If I end up 6 slotting attacks my plan was to budget 2 for damage and 1 for either end reduction or recharge depending. This question is for leveling and for use while working towards IO sets after level 50, not as an end goal. Also note, I don’t want to have to use yellow insp in general. My question is: in general, do I need to 3 slot accuracy or is 2 sufficient?

No theme really. Just that I enjoyed the animations and like the concept of martial assault. I honestly don’t have experience with dominators. My overall impression is that they lock mobs down with control and then kill them. I figured any primary is good at the lockdown part to some degree. So was just looking into what others were pairing with MA and their thoughts. Though I guess if I had to pick something I was looking for it would probably be good damage. I figure the control sets are more AoE centric. So I’m not super concerned with ST or AoE. But honestly more interested in what others find fun to pair with MA and why.
-
Hi All, I was wondering what people think would be a good primary to go with martial assault. I really like the animations of MA so decided that would be the secondary for my first dom. I know there are a lot “it depends” considerations and that’s why I’m not really going into what exactly I’m looking for (because honestly I’m not really sure). I just know I want to use martial assault. So, for any one who has started on a martial assault dominator (or for those thinking of making one) here are the questions: What primary are you using/going to use and why? Do you think that any primary just “fits” martial assault well and how? Thank!

Homecoming Server Update (May 20th): What's Next?
Saikochoro replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
I think it is much better to be able to create as many toons as you want on a certain shard and have to deal with naming issues, than have names I want but be limited on my slots. Especially on game that by its nature encourages lots of alts and experimenting. I have no less than 30 power combos I want to try making. And that is just in one week of knowing this game is back. I can only imagine how many more I will want to make. Would much rather have to get creative with names than be limited on character slots. -
Homecoming Server Update (May 20th): What's Next?

If you are playing the game it shouldn’t be an issue. If you rarely play the game or a particular toon it still isn’t an issue. Even at level one it only takes less than 30 seconds a month to keep a name. It takes about 15 minutes to get into the next bracket. This won’t affect casual gamers. I am a casual gamer myself. I work 40+ most of the year and for a couple months out of the year I work 50+ per week. I then spend time with my family in the evenings and on the weekends. I won’t even consider getting on my computer until my kid is asleep. And if my wife wants to do something else I just won’t log on for the night. We often go camping on the weekends so I wouldn’t even be on. Heck I can go a month or more without even getting on my computer. I’d call that pretty casual. But if I know I have a level 1 toon that has a name I dearly love I can take a couple minutes to login once a month. I think the naming policy is actually a very good and healthy thing for the game. Name camping isn’t healthy. And it is extremely forgiving. -
Since stalkers don’t get staff mastery I thought they didn’t have perfection. I may not have looked at the wiki article close enough. I guess it does still say “consumes perfection” on the two powers. Or is it just by default form of the body for stalkers? If that’s the case, then that is fine with me as that is the form I’d generally be in anyway. I was thinking of doing a staff/bio stalker. If each stack of perfection gives 15% bonus and offensive stance giving a +32% damage bonus (at least that’s what it says on my scrapper) it should pump out some pretty good damage. I like the look of the staff and like that it has some decent AoE and ST damage options. I’m sure it wouldn’t be able to farm like a brute or anything, but if built right hopefully it could still handle some bigger and higher level mobs. What would you think of the combo?
-
I don’t mind going into people’s thoughts on both scrappers and brutes. Although I may be leaning towards scrappers now, I will still certainly make some brutes eventually. Plus I’m sure other may like to know what people think of both. I will definitely have to make a /shield scrapper based on some comments. Though will have to try out lots of primaries. So many I want to try. It’s hard to get a toon past level 20 when all I want to do is try new builds haha.
-
All good info. I have been leaning into scrappers more. And they probably slightly fit me better. But it sounds like both are great either way. I will probably have tons of both.

I stopped when I was in high school and working part time as an auto mechanics assistant. Since then I have recieved an undergraduate degree in accounting, an MBA in capital markets, and have been a licensed CPA for almost 2 years now. Working as a senior accountant for a great company. Of course my education/career successes are nothing compared to meeting and marrying my awesome wife and having the most wonderful little girl in the world as my daughter.

Some sets and combos strongly favor one AT over the other, and Elec/Shield is probably the one that leans the furthest. It's not obvious, but the way Elec/'s Lightning Rod and /Shield's Shield Charge work is by summoning pseudopets, and those are what deliver the effect while you're teleporting. The thing is that their damage is based on your base damage, which is way higher for Scrappers than for Brutes. Brutes' low base damage is offset by Fury, but that doesn't come into play with these abilities. What’s an example of a set that more strongly favors brutes if you don’t mind me asking?
-
Thanks all. That is some good info. I will start by crafting level 25 IOs for the slots I have and then fill the later slots with higher level IOs. Any other info is welcome if anyone else has more to say.
-
I have found myself starting a lot of alts between scrappers and brutes. For example, I’ll make a MA/WP scrapper. Then I will wonder, I wonder how brute compares. Or I’ll make a Elec/shield brute and wonder how would a scrapper do. So a simple (yet maybe not so simple) question: which should I focus on. I get that perhaps brutes may be a bit more survivable. Or perhaps scrappers may do more damage. But is that really true? Or is that a generalization? I had to leave the game before a lot of the powers were shared between the ATs. I used to absolutely love brutes, but I loved MA. So I had to play scrapper. I thought, “I bet MA would be awesome on a brute with full fury.” I will eventually probably have several of both. I like to do radio/paper missions. I would love to get in end game groups. I would play mainly a damage role and less of a tank role. I would eventually like to do some farming. I get the IOs can narrow gaps. So in the end are they really all that different? So what do you guys prefer: Scrappers or Brutes? And more importantly, why? Or perhaps in what situations? (I’m not sure if cross posting is looked down on so I’m just posting this is scrapper board as it has more activity. I figure the same people who like scrappers also like brutes.)
