  1. I am not saying those people didn't exist, but it was accepted by the majority that it was the wrong way to play, and those people were duly ridiculed for doing so. Not to mention, I vividly remember Positron going on a rampage when people started using AE to powerlevel and farm, doling out nerfs and bans like a goddam vengeful deity. The folks at Paragon were very disappointed to see a tool for creativity used as a shortcut. Yeah, powerlevelers and farmers existed, in a minority, and as a sort of grimy underbelly that we mostly ignored and laughed at. It was not THIS bad. Every other character I see is a damned Spines/Fire now. So a portion of the player base didn’t play how you thought they should and you think it was right to ridicule them? How is that the wrong way to play? If that is what people enjoyed, then they were doing it right. I did a good amount of the story and it bored me to death. The story in most games bores me to death. I give it a shot anyway just to see if it will interest me and have yet to enjoy the “proper” way of playing more than my own custom way of playing. What I enjoyed was getting into mid levels to test out as many power combos as I could. The entire group of people I played with on live chose to ignore most story content as they felt it was boring. And instead focused on making alts they enjoyed. These people were not few and far between. You don’t see me ridiculing people who enjoy the story content as lesser players. Doesn’t matter if a dev disagreed with how AE was used. They should have had the foresight to understand that a good portion of most player bases enjoy farming. Content writers shouldn’t think so highly of their work that they can’t accept that some people just don’t enjoy it. The whole attitude that farming is a lesser way, a minority, and worthy of ridicule is asinine. The toxicity that’s group of self appointed fun police is always what has been my absolute least favorite part of this game. Of course that factions survived into HC. The community in this game is pretty awesome and helpful. However, this prejudicial attitude and inability to accept alternative play styles is a black mark on the community.
  2. This is why I abandoned my */Bio character. Even with Minimal FX selected, the yellow/green* pulsing electrical effect just ruined the immersion for me. Maybe I'll revisit it again some day when I have proper concept for a character with those effects. (*: Yes, I changed the power set colors, which seemed to have no effect whatsoever.) Changing the colors does change the green/yellow affects. Otherwise I would not use bio. Just got to make sure you do it for each power (minus the minimal fx powers) including each adaptation. One time I forgot to to change offensive adaptations color scheme and it was the ugly green/yellow. Went in and changed it dark red. Looked a lot better to me.
  3. That sounds like a lot of fun. Although it does have elements other sets can mimic, it would still be unique. I would definitely make a few.
  4. This is true honestly. When I played swtor I found that I spent way more time on the forums than in the game itself. So far on HC, I’ve spent more time in game, but I do prowl the forums a lot.
  5. I always loved Eagles Claw followed by crane kick. Jump up and kick the bad in the face. The kick them across the room...or off a building.
  6. For me it is purely population. I want to be where the people are and blue side just had more people. I like villains better. That’s mainly what I did on live. Especially since when I played the ATs were still split. But the population difference is big enough that I don’t want to go redside.
  7. And it's this that makes me sad every time I see something like "lvl 50 Brute looking for AE or farm" in the LFG channel -- you can get your enjoyment from the game how you want, but seeing someone who's powerleveled to 50, and all they're interested in is more farms, is depressing. Thinking about all the content they don't care about because it's not a farm (or don't know about, because all they've ever done in game is farm) reminds me of a line from a novel referring to mining the asteroids for resources: "Out there it's raining soup, and we don't even know about soup bowls." But if endless farming is the only way they know how to play, or what they think is the 'best' way to play, I'll just be disappointed in them and let them go off and do their own thing. Why is this depressing though? If that is what they enjoy doing, then that is how they should play. I have a friend who started up HC for one day. He went through story contacts for several hours. Got bored of the slowness of it and quit. I managed to get him to try DFB and a few AE farms a couple weeks later and he has since been playing several hours a day. Some people just love farming. It’s what they do. I love the low level farms so I can get to the 30s quickly and then do whatever I want after. But for others the farming is the game. For many it also isn’t about not knowing any better. Many have tried stories, TFs, etc and just don’t enjoy them. It isn’t a lesser way of playing. They aren’t skipping content. They are choosing the content that is right for them.
  8. You can do the color to tintable option to make it a different color. Then choose minimal effects for the toggles. That’s what I do. I tint the other stuff a dark red and it goes pretty good with the rest of my costume.
  9. I doubt they are doubt they are following GAAP/IFRS for accrual accounting and are most likely operating on a cash basis. In my experience, most small businesses are cash basis or modified cash basis. Even bigger businesses that have accounting teams often fail at following GAAP/IFRS properly as I discovered during my time as an auditor. Sorry for the accounting tangent: end of story I agree with you. If they even appear to be making a profit it can draw unwanted attention. I think they are making the right call.
  10. Dude, it's not a competition. Chill out. I actually hadn’t heard of extralife before. That seems like a good choice.
  11. Honestly, I like the idea of donating to a charity in place of HC. It’s obvious that the supply of money is much greater than the demand from HC at the moment. That may change in the future. In the meantime there is always some other worthy cause that is always in need of help.
  12. I’m pretty sure their goal is to only collect their budgeted amount to make it pretty much impossible to turn a profit. Any system that allows them to collect over their target amount puts them in a precarious position. Even a pledge system is questionable for the same reason. I think what they are doing now is for the best even if not all can donate.
  13. I was wondering what happened as I noticed my alts stopped getting this power. Thanks for clarifying.
  14. Why are you doing this to another thread about the market? The market is currently an absolute mess. The lower tier IOs aren't worth crafting because the higher tier IOs are selling for so cheap courtesy of converters. How is that a mess exactly? Everything's affordable, money's easy to make. Everybody's alts are happily getting slotted without weeks of farming and marketing and saving. Seems like the opposite of a mess. This is exactly what I was thinking.

    Dark/ ?

I’ve actually have made most all of my toons with a bio secondary on my brutes, scrappers, stalkers, and sentinels. It’s hard to give up that permanent 25%+ damage bonus plus extra toxic damage. I think someone tested it and between the two of those it’s about a 50% damage bonus. Along with decent recovery even outside of efficient method. I haven’t found another secondary that I enjoy enough to put in place of bio. I have a DP/bio and AR/bio sentinel and both are a lot of fun.
  16. I haven’t done it yet on this game. I’m still spending most of my inf on alts. But once I stockpile enough I’ll probably end up doing what I used to do on swtor. I would put up ridiculous trade offers in chat and honor it to whoever decided to chance it. I would put up something like, “WTB green goo for 1m credits”. (Green goo was equivalent to common salvage). Or even better, “WTB 10 credits for 10m credits”. Most people would ignore those. There was even one time I had to post it a couple times and wait for like 10 minutes before one person finally decided to give it a shot. Other times, I did the hide and seek game. I like to make it fun.
  17. Yet this very same game appeals to someone like me who enjoys spending hours and hours in Mid's/Pine's planning and tweaking almost as much as he does playing the game. This game is a rare breed. It has something for nearly everybody. Spreadsheet gamers AND sane people alike. Totally this. I am by and large a very casual gamer. Especially now that I have a kid. I could very well see myself just having basic IOs and never really moving on from that. Just enjoy making tons of alts and testing out power combos. Then again, if I have a feee weekend or some PTO, and my family is otherwise busy I could see myself diving into set builds. Either way the game can cater to that. I love it.
  18. Quick question on rewards for a couple of the different low level boss XP farms. For a week or so I was running “the Fastest Farm in the West”. If I chose architect reward I would get plenty of tickets both from bosses and completing the mission. However, I couldn’t figure out how to get it to spawn elite bosses. I tried changing notoriety and everything. So I figured maybe it wasn’t an option. I then tried both the “Bads in the City” farms (including each type). I could get red elite bosses to spawn, but i got no rewards when I chose tickets. Also the elite bosses were only red and I couldn’t figure out how to get them to purple. Also no rewards if I chose normal rewards. I understand I won’t get infamy, but figured at least some common salvage would drop. Then I tried the tunnel witches. I was able to get it to spawn purple elite bosses. But similar to the bads farm I don’t receive any tickets when I choose architect reward nor any other rewards if I choose normal reward. So my question: is there a way to spawn purple elite bosses in “fastest farm in the west”? Or is there a reason that the other farms don’t seem to offer rewards? Either way it’s fine. I mainly do it for quick levels to mid 20-30s. But getting some rewards is nice to fund the level 25 IOs. Thanks in advance.
  19. I’m sorry that you experienced that. Sure you could probably have figured it out beforehand with some more research, but I get that not everyone does that. Mistakes happen. However, I don’t think it’s fair to call the devs unprofessional and blame the community. The devs are doing this for free except for voluntary donations to help cover server costs. And they have been more engaging and open than the devs in most of the other huge MMOs that I have played. The community can be snarky, but it is also the best place to learn things and most people are willing to teach others. As for what to do next: if you do not believe you can have fun in the game anymore you can proceed with one that you do enjoy. If you want to give this game another shot: you can always respec give them to an alt that can make use of them. I know it’s not the same, but won’t be a complete waste. There are so many different combos you can experience that I believe there is still much fun to be had. I get that frustration and sense of loss make people lash out. And while I don’t think it was really fair, here’s hoping you give it another shot.
  20. The magic is definitely there for me. I’ve always been a gamer, but the last year or two I’ve been kind of burnt out on them. I would think, “maybe I’ll log into GW2” and then I realized I didn’t even want to put the effort into opening up my computer to do so. Or I’d think, “maybe I’ll do a couple rounds on overwatch” and then still not be motivated enough to even open up my computer. I hadn’t even opened up my computer at all for 3 months straight before my friend told me COH was back. Then my friend texted me a screenshot of homecoming and I didn’t believe it was back. I questioned him like a police detective. Trying to get him to confess that he was lying. That it couldn’t possibly be back. Because in the years since Sundown, every few months I would think “man I wish I could play COH”. Especially in the last couple years. So, I came to the homecoming forums. Created a forum account. Downloaded tequila. Created a game account and waited for the download to complete. All the while believing that this wasn’t really true. Then I launched the game. Made my first new toon. Loaded into Atlas Park and saw something like 20-30 people around Miss Liberty. And I knew it was true. I felt like crying. My eyes watered and I got that lump in my throat. Kind of like when you watch a particularly emotional scene in a movie, but you don’t want to show that it actually affected you. I proceeded to play for 5 hours straight. That’s the first time in years I have done that. Probably the first time since I was a teenager. I have managed to moderate my play time finally, but find myself wanting to log in every day if I can. At first it was like gasping for air after holding your breath under water. Now it’s more just having fun instead of devouring the game like a starved wolf.
  21. Go to the university in Steel Canyon. There is a contact in there that puts you through a short tutorial and explains how to craft. It even has you craft an IO at the end of it. In short, to craft a common IO you need the following: -worktable (the university has these) -the recipe for the IO you want to craft (have to have one for each IO you create. You can buy these directly from the worktable or the auction house. They also drop as loot. -invention salvage. Drops as loot or you can buy from auction house. -Influence/infamy. When you have all necessary elements it will give you the option to create the enhancement at which point it drops into your enhancement inventory. Here is the info on the memorization badges. Once you memorize a set of IOs they appear under a “memorized recipes” drop down list when you click on the worktable. You no longer need recipes for these and their influence cost is also reduced. https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Memorization_Badges
  22. I think the time I got raged at the most was a “pvp” situation. Pretty sure it was sirens call. I was on my energy melee stalker. I saw a lonely hero standing there and decided to attack. Killed him in 2 hits. He goes to hospital and comes back. I kill him again once he gets back. Hospital and come back. Drops caltrops. I teleport in and am in the air long enough for assassins strike to go off and again kill in 2 hits. As he goes to the hospital I port over to hero side hospital and see him come out of hospital. I then port in and quickly kill him again before being killed by the drones. By that point he is very angry (rightly so). He says in chat that I better not kill him again. He is back standing around near the middle watching a duel. I drop in and kill him again. At which point he yells and vows to never power level me again. It is only then that I realize it was one of my friends friends who had agreed to let me in on a power level farm the night before. Of course it’s a dbag thing to do to anyone, but was extra douchy to do it to someone who did you a favor. My friend yelled at me over it too as it reflected poorly on him. I was justly chastised. I am happy to announce that I haven’t done anything like that in recent years.
  23. You can always just start by crafting a set of lvl 25 common IOs. They are about equivalent to SOs and don’t become ineffective as you level. They always retain their full effectiveness. I started slotting them late 20s. Costs a few million to fill out your slots. Plus you will eventually memorize recipes and it will become even cheaper. Level 25 Common IOs are the way to go for leveling if you don’t have an idea about end builds or don’t have lots of influence.
  24. Hi my name is Saiko and I’m an altaholic. I was sober for almost 7 years. But then I found homecoming and saw that I had 1000 character slots. I don’t even feel bad about it anymore...
  25. I play a lot of games. One of them is Battletech. Been a player since it came on the market in the '80s, on and off. There are grognards that _still_ argue over minutae that has not changed in decades. And don't mean polite discussions, I am talking salt the earth with anyone that dares to disgree types of things. I cannot even stand the official forums for the latest game because these grognards rule the roost, nothing is ever right, good enough, or 'in lore' enough, evar, only the 'original written word' is right, except when they don't like it... My point is that some people absolutely thrive on totally useless/baseless drama for the sake of drama. Gamers seem especially vulnerble to this, IME. I think the hate gives them purpose, personally. I agree with you. I think a lot of people thrive on drama. I myself like good forum debates. Though I think that sometimes the line between a good debate and baseless drama is fuzzy.
