  1. During World War II, Julia Child was deemed too tall to join the Women's Army Corps... >.> ...so she joined the Office of Strategic Services instead.
  2. Per https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Inspirations#Inspiration_Levels "As a character rises in levels, they will find higher tiers of inspirations drop from defeated enemies." Does anyone have more specific info than that? Frex "At level 30 if an Insp drops it will have a 50% chance of being Large, 35% chance of being Medium or 15% chance of being Small"? Edit: Also, does character level affect the Level of Inspirations granted by Inner Inspiration?
  3. Holy Four-Letter-Word-That-Rhymes-With-Legit! We're LEGIT!
  4. So Green Jack O'Lantern, my Dark/Dark Defender has Shadow Fall with a green tint. The Shadow Fall effect seems to be slightly obscuring the flatscreens attached to my Teleporters. I'm wondering if this affects all Teleporter flatscreens or is it just because I've got the mod that adds location text to each flatscreen. Edit: this is not really a big deal, hardly a game stopper. I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing this.
  5. OP didn't see this coming? [[shakes head]] That's a rook move, ya hate to see that.
  6. Woot! Finally, something I'm above average at!
  7. Respectfully disagree, see my post yesterday. On beta it took me only 16.8 mil to buy SO's and Upgrade every 5 levels (7, 12, 17, etc) to 50. Doing just the TFC task forces alone gets you 212 merits. That's 636 converters. At SELL IT NAO price of $65,000 per converter that's over $41 mil. Edit: If you start in Praetoria (which doesn't really have TF's like the TFC TF's): just doing a Storyline from start to finish (ie Crusader or Warden, etc) gets you 80 merits (Loyalist) or 81 merits (Resistance). 80 merits gives you 240 converters. At SELL IT NAO price of $65,000 per converter that's about $15.6mil. By level 20. Exploring the three zones will get you another 15 merits or about another $2.9 mil. So by Level 20 in Praetoria, you should have enough to buy SO's and hit the Upgrade button every 5 levels until 50.
  8. Well, I did as suggested and created a toon on Beta, Upgrading every 5 levels. It only cost about 16.8 mil. I'm confident that the Merits earned (don't forget the easy merits just for exploring a new zone) will be enough to cover 16.8 mil.
  9. Thanks! Great thinking! Unfortunately, that won't work b/c stores on Beta don't actually sell enhancements so no way to "buy" SO's since they're free. This, so much this. Which kind of leads into why I asked the question. I've got plenty of Inf. Every toon that I want billion dollar-builds on has them, plus a billion or so Inf just sitting around doing nothing. But what I'm short on is time. Try as I might I can't buy time. I can sell time, we all sell time, most of us sell 40 hours a week. Just can't buy any. So when my SO's turn yellow, do I really want to spend 15-20 minutes shopping for salvage and recipes then crafting recipes into IO's, then slotting the IO's into powers - oh and buying unslotters for when I'm ready to replace those with higher ones later? Or do I want to just hit the magic Upgrade button and spend that 15-20 minutes playing? That 15-20 minutes is a few story arcs. Or a Posi or a Penny. Or a Posi AND a Penny. Which brings me Merits that I can use to buy Converters which I can sell on the market for funds to keep pushing the magic Upgrade button. So I guess what I really should have asked was: is it viable to just vendor everything EXCEPT Orange Salvage and Special Salvage (Converters, Catalysts, Unslotters, etc) and the occasional high selling recipe - which is actually worth selling on the AH. Would THAT strategy earn enough to keep pushing the Upgrade button every 5 levels or so? Yes, I know it's wasting INF. But that's what INF is for....
  10. Does anyone know how much roughly it costs to outfit a toon using just SO's from 1-50? I know it's a nearly impossible question to answer, there being billions of possible powerset/powers/slotting combinations. But what's a ballpark figure? $5 mil? $10 mil? $20 mil? Also, is there a cost difference in using the magic Upgrade button every level versus every other level? I know back in the old days before the magic Upgrade button, we would only replace SO's at Lv 12, 17, 22, etc when they turned yellow. What's the optimum now?
  11. Back on Retail I had a Flash ripoff superspeedster who was a Ele/SR Scrapper but he was only a Scrapper because at that time that powerset combo was only available blueside on Scrappers. But now that the combo is available to blueside Brutes and Stalkers, which AT do you think is the best fit for a Ele/SR speedster? (don't really want a Tank) Corollary: is Stalker Hide stackable with Superspeed's stealth? (Or was stealth recently removed from Speed pool? Does Superspeed still take Celerity Stealth? How does that interact with Stalker Hide?)
  12. You've got 7 LotG Globals. Isn't 5 the max?
  13. Ah, OK. So there is a prereq, just not a mission prereq. Thanks!
  14. How do I run Loyalist missions while secretly working for the Resistance? I'm pretty sure I need to start as Resistance, right? And then start with Praetor White and run Loyalist missions, I'm doing that as well. But when I come to a mish that has "Members of the Resistance working under cover should call Calvin Scott"; I call Scott and he does nothing different other than just offering normal missions. Are there some prerequisite missions I need to run for Scott before going undercover?
  15. They changed the name of the folder from "City of Heroes" to "Homecoming." I don't remember when.
  16. Nevermind, Freebies menu is back as of last Beta patch. Hey AboveTheChemist, Since the last Beta build, the Freebies menu is not currently available by using the Quick Chat icon. Per the Aug 11 Patch notes, apparently this is intentional, something to do with the special Cimerora AE map being developed. They said it would be back probably by Tue the 17th but no joy. Is there any way you can post the latest "freebies.mnu" in this thread? The one I've been using is very old (ver 20190824.01). Thanks much!

    DPS? or DPA?

I guess I need a primer on picking powers (alliteration ftw) If you have to choose between two powers do you pick the one with the highest Damage per Second or the one with the highest Damage per Activation. Frex, if I create a Psi Melee broot. At first level I have to choose between Mental Strike and Psi Blade. Mental Strike does 9.86 avg dmg and recharges in 3 seconds so I can use it 20 times a minute so if I attack using nothing but Mental Strike I'll do 9.86 x 20 = 197.2 dmg in a minute of fighting. Psi Blade does 15.96 avg dmg and recharges in 5 seconds so I can use it 12 times a minute so if I attack using nothing but Psi Blade I'll do 15.96 x 12 = 191.52 dmg in a minute of fighting. So if I pick my first power using the Damage per Second paradigm, then Mental Strike is the winner. But for realz, not really that much difference. But at second level when Telekinetic Blow becomes available, it does only 21.14 avg dmg x 6.67 times per minute = 140.9 damage in a minute of fighting. Which is significantly below the first two powers. Does this mean that at 2nd level I should ignore Telekinetic Blow and just pick whichever of the first two I did not get? =-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==- But if I compare Damage per Activation Time: Mental Strike has (9.86 avg dmg divided by 1 sec activation time = ) 9.86 DPA. Psi Blade has (15.96 avg dmg divided by 1.33 sec activation time = ) 12 DPA. So if I pick powers using the Damage per Activation paradigm, then Psi Blade is the clear choice at first level. At second level when Telekinetic Blow becomes available, it has (21.14 avg dmg divided by 1.47 activation time = ) 14.38 DPA =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= T E A L D E E R If I pick powers using DPS, I should pick Mental Strike and Psi Blade and ignore Telekinetic Blow If I pick powers using DPA, I should pick Psi Blade and Telekinetic Blow and ignore Mental Strike What should I do? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= (and this doesn't even go into those people who say DPE (damage per endurance) is the way to go. Cuz if you ain't got no endurance, you ain't doin' no damije)
  18. Most (all?) contacts have story arcs. Story arcs are afaik all available thru Flashback. However contacts also have one-off missions that are NOT part of their story arcs. Most of these one-off missions are NOT available thru Flashback unless there is a badge involved (such as Maria Jenkins' Nightstar mission which is NOT part of her Hero's Epic story arc BUT is available thru Flashback because it awards Shrouded Badge which is needed for Portal Jockey) or there is some other needed aspect to the mission (such as it unlocks a TF contact or something like that.) One mission that I can think of off the top of my head that is NOT available thru Flashback is "Investigate the Lost City of Oranbega" given by either Laura Brunette or Miriam Bloeckle. This mission is NOT part of their normal story arcs but it is notable because the "real" (as opposed to Vet Power) Sands of Mu is available in it. (The real Sands of Mu has half the recharge).
  19. Olivia Neutron-Bomb - she's a Rad/Mental Blaster ..cuz, yanno, Rad's are a little mental, but Mentals are so rad!
  20. Sorry for the sarcasm but that's my point. Tanks don't get Regen. Maybe whoever told you that a Regen Tank was not a good idea was referring to Reflexes? as in Super Reflexes?
  21. If you share your Kin/? troller build with us, I'll share my Regen/? tank build.
  22. I was @GATE-keeper back in the day. Played from about Jun 2006 until shutdown. Currently on Everlasting since Infinity and Everlasting are the same thing, right. Actually, now that i've had a few weeks to think about it, Everlasting and Eternity are the same thing, not Infinity. Oh well. I spent about 90% soloing, so you probably missed me. About the only grouping I did was Ironblade's Sat afternoon TFs (actually started by Johnny Taxibot, who passed the reins to Ms Cats who passed the reins to IB) For the last few years I hosted Task Force Commander Tuesdays at 10pm (same six TFs - one a week - over and over and over and over....Well, until they split Posi then the same seven TFs over and ove ... you get the idea) I guess I did a fair few Rikti raids that Hercules ran every Sunday night. And a few Hami Raids that Cremzen would run right after the Rikti raid. GATE-keeper (Inv/SS tank) My main. Why is it spelled that way? Because Gatekeeper was taken. So was Gate-keeper. I refused to do G4t3k33p3r. Finally able to get GATE-keeper to work. Had to make a SG called Global Anti-Terror Enterprise to force it to make sense. Anita Hero (WP/Nrg tank) Her name is a play on the Bonnie Tyler song "I need a hero!" Olivia Neutron-Bomb (Rad/Mental blaster). Yeah, rads are a little mental, but mentals are so rad! Statesdude (Street/Will brute) He's Statesman from another dimension. No not Praetoria, Partyoria. He's a scrawny, surfer looking dude. Wild hair, goatee, barefoot, boxing shorts that look like surfer shorts. Loved it when hoverboard came out! Of course, since I had a GATE-keeper, I just had to make a KEY-master (Fire/Dark corruptor) GATE's opposite. I think those were my 50s. Maybe a half dozen others that didn't make it that far.
