@AboveTheChemist never even reached out to me for "support", then proceeds to badmouth me for the lack of support that they never asked for. Go figure. -
RIP @Heraclea... This one is for you, my dear friend:
-
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must report the passing of my friend, @Heraclea, known to "real life" humans as Steve Gustafson, who passed away peacefully on Sunday December 19th. I've "known" him for over 17 years, ever since we first "met" on the original City of Heroes forums. We've stayed in constant casual contact since then. He was a constant and comforting presence in my life, and he will be missed by all who knew him. I can honestly say that I've never in my life felt a death so singularly hard and instantaneous as I felt when I learned of Steve's passing, less than an hour ago. While we never met in real life (or even in game!) we've had so many constant interactions over the years on Facebook, and on various internet forums, that he felt to me like my own blood. Those that know him casually will remember him as a man that respected and admired women, especially "good girls", and girls of great strength and power (as his DeviantArt page will attest to - https://www.deviantart.com/ihcoyc). He was a man who was OBSESSED with language more than any person I've ever heard of this side of Tolkien. His Wikipedia user page will show the vociferousness ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ihcoyc ) of his spirit, which I'm sure he would proudly proclaim to be full of both virtue and sin in equal measure, and whose cromulent words I suspect will surely embiggen us all well into the future. For me, personally, he was a man of character, and great personal fortitude. He was a man that knew not only himself, but the nature of man, and didn't shy away from it. He was a man that mistrusted authority, and fought dogma head on, whether it come from religion, science, or any other human construct. He was a man that I will personally miss as a great human, a great man, and a great role model. If I could end my life having become as eclectic and rich of a personality as my friend Steve was, I would consider mine a life well spent. May you rest in peace, Steve, and may you find solace that humanity will march on and continue to create great works of literature and art, and that your place in that history will not be forgotten as long as anyone that ever knew you, lives. Humanitas haesitans sine te. Those that wish to honor his memory on his personal facebook page may do so here: https://www.facebook.com/steve.gustafson.547

And if I recall correctly from my peek into the code a year ago, the .FX files set a "duration" for the sound, which if I'm understanding this correctly, means that they can even just use the first part of a sound, and set the duration to kill it after X number of seconds, so they can piecemeal together new sounds by stringing pieces of other sounds. Which I think they've done in a few instances.

Probably half of them. 🤪

Thank you! If you want to send me the script, I can look at it and see if I can implement its functionality into the DeTexturizer... but that program doesn't mess with the DDS file itself right now current state - it literally just reads the file and writes the file as-is on a byte-by-byte basis, making NO modifications to it whatsoever. So, if changes are happening to the graphics files, they're happening when the editing person processes the file in their graphics processing program of choice. I could try to figure out how to modify the DDS file manually to set that bit every time appropriately while Texturizing, but I'd have to know how it's done first.

Could you maybe fix that up for me? I honestly have no idea how I'd do that. I think I just used GIMP to export those with a plugin of some sort, but I don't even recall which. I'd consider it a personal favor if you could for me. 😄

The comments on this thread are quite apt: -
Which toggle? Almost all of the powers are toggles: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Stone_Armor

I don't think it's AVG. I run AVG myself, and it's never blocked my FTP port before. It must be something else.
-
So... then it looks like you've got some more troubleshooting to do - use that site as your test, and do whatever you can until it says that port is open. It may be getting blocked by any Internet Security programs you have, by Windows Defender Firewall, by your router, by your internet modem, or even by your internet service provider. I can't help you any more from this end, unfortunately... that requires in-person troubleshooting. 😢
-
Can you please send me a screenshot of what you see when you enter "21" into the port field on this page and click the Check button? https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
-
You need to open up port 21 on your network and PC for FTP access. Either your router or your software firewall are blocking it.

I'm sorry @Blue Jay, just very frustrated. Some of the things I've been trying to guide you through are things I learned when I was 13... back in 1993... I'd assumed that anyone that has touched a computer since then would know how to download a file to a directory, how to find it in their file system beyond looking at their recent documents list, how to find and install an unzipping program, and use it. For me, this is literally 8th grade stuff. So when I say no offense, I mean it. I simply cannot comprehend anyone that's able to install and run City of Heroes itself to not be able to do these things without a lot of hand holding. Seems... really strange to me. Frankly I thought you were being intentionally obtuse and/or trolling me.
-
@Blue Jay I don't know what that "7z2106..." thing is, but that's not the modder. This is the modder file (the one with CoH Modder in the name), and this is the menu option you choose: If you don't see it, I guess you must have deleted it and need to download it again. After you unzip it, you go into the folder you unzipped things to, and then run the program: Then you click the Browse button, and point it to wherever you installed COH to. I installed it to "C:\HC\", but you probably installed it somewhere different: If you did NOT pick the correct directory, you'll get an error like this: That just means you didn't pick the correct directory, so you must pick the actual one where you installed CoH at. I'm doing the best I can here, but I kind of expected someone trying to play City of Heroes to have some sort of basic computer knowledge that you seem to be lacking... no offense intended, but maybe you might need to get a computer savvy friend to come and help you?
-
Great, you have the official 7Zip program installed now. Now you have to right click on the 7z file for the program. Your screenshot just shows your most recent files, check your downloads directory. Should be there.
-
The problem is that you're using some sort of weird 3rd party 7z program, looks like you got it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/7z-file-opener/9nblggh379j9?activetab=pivot:overviewtab By some dude named "pauljohn". Don't use that, Uninstall it. Use the ACTUAL 7Zip program: https://www.7-zip.org/
-
Then, you should be able to right click on the file and use the 7Zip context menu to unzip it... what's the problem?
-
Here, let Google that for you... https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=7z+file
-
What's exactly complicated? Its five steps: Unzip the program. Run the program Point it at your CoH directory Click on the mod you want to install. Click the install button. I made it about as easy as humanly possible...
